Every time the mainstream media covers an unlawful shooting, why is it that the lawful gun owners get the blame? Of course, the mainstream media is not the only one to blame. Gun control advocates are all too willing to use any tragedy as a fundraiser, targeting lawful gun owners and Second Amendment groups such as the NRA.
Recently, the New York Times touted a report claiming that “gun safety advocates” were forcing Ruger to adopt their policies and measures. Ruger’s CEO, Chris Killoy, fired back with a statement that all gun owners should hear… and repeat. Ruger’s quote, per the New York Times, flatly stated that Ruger has no intention to “adopt misguided principles by groups that do not own guns and does not understand guns.”
Love it or hate it—The Shooter’s Log has certainly received comments on both sides—the NRA is fighting hard for the Second Amendment and our rights. Recently, The Shooter’s Log reported on moves by certain banking institutions to limit or outright refuse to do business with manufacturers and businesses within the firearms community. The National Rifle Association (NRA) has announced that retired Marine Corps Lt. Col. Oliver North will become the next president of the association “within a few weeks.” The news stunned some in that Pete Brownell (abruptly) decided not to run for a second term, Both the NRA’s first and second vice presidents were also unable to take the position, but none of that dampened the enthusiasm for North.
Last week, The Shooter’s Log, covered the reaction from firearm owners and supporters of the Second Amendment to YETI’s decision to no longer support the NRA. Disgruntled patrons expressed their ire in a number of ways including blowing up YETI products with Tannerite, burning them, placing toilet seats and on them (and doing what naturally comes next), and destroying and defiling them in several other creative ways. However, Marion Hammer, USF Executive Director and NRA Past President, wants you to keep and express your opinion in a completely different way. After all, you have already spent the money and YETI and has already reaped the profits. Here is Ms. Hammer’s message.
It is one thing to have an opinion as an elected official and espouse an opinion. It is quite another to make a veiled threat against due to your political position or influence. However, that is exactly what many believe Andrew Cuomo, previous governor of New York, crossed the line when he “urged” banks and insurance companies—some would say threatened—repercussions to their reputations if they continued doing business with firearm and ammunition manufacturers. One of those ammunition manufacturers has ‘fired’ back.
Kel-Tec has discovered a potential issue with the Sub-2000 rifle. Although it only affects a limited number of firearms, all sub-2000 rifle owners are advised to stop use until they can determine whether their firearm is affected and/or repaired. Here is the full recall notice from Kel-Tec.
Last week, there was another school shooting in Florida, but this shooting was much different than Parkland. When the shooter touched off his first shot, the school resource officer immediately rushed to the direction of the gunshot, engaged and took the shooter into custody—eliminating further danger. Did the news media cover the shooting? Was this plastered across your TV screen? Are lawmakers changing firearm legislation as a result?
If you’ve been in social media “jail,” or on a temporary break from Facebook and the national news, you may not have heard that YETI severed its ties with the National Rifle Association, at the cost of a significant amount of controversy. The issue was brought to light by a letter from NRA director and past president Marion Hammer.
Lobbyists can do a wonderful job representing our Second Amendment rights, but on occasion, industry leaders need to meet with our elected officials for face-to-face meetings. Recently, the NSSF brought together 55 firearms and ammunition industry executives with members of Congress, the effort is already starting to show positive results.
