Blame the Criminals, Not Law Abiding Gun Owners

Bloomberg—Mayors Against Illegal Guns

Every time the mainstream media covers an unlawful shooting, why is it that the lawful gun owners get the blame? Of course, the mainstream media is not the only one to blame. Gun control advocates are all too willing to use any tragedy as a fundraiser, targeting lawful gun owners and Second Amendment groups such as the NRA.

Recently, Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), issued a challenge to the gun prohibition lobby.

“Time after time, with endless fund raising appeals and inflammatory rhetoric, we’ve seen these anti-rights lobbying groups immediately try to shift blame to the NRA, or the Second Amendment, or the firearms industry, or some mythical loophole in the law. But they never seem to point their fingers at the culprit, and we think it’s time for the American public to ask why?”

Gottlieb certainly has a point. After all, when was the last time you heard gun control advocates make a call to disarm the criminals or rightly lay the blame on the perpetrator after a tragedy? They don’t. Instead, they recite the same worn narrative that the Second Amendment groups are too blame, call for new laws (when the last ones did not work), and—of course—take advantage of the tragedy by soliciting for more money.

If the gun control groups were sincere, wouldn’t they have directed their angst toward those actually committing the crimes? How is their cause served by diverting attention from the murders to law abiding gun owners. The answer is simple of course—at least to me. To me, the primary concern the antis have shown for the victims is to use them as fundraisers to their political agendas. Gottlieb seems as though he would agree, “These lobbying groups have created a very strong impression that they’re not really interested in punishing criminals, but only in penalizing honest firearms owners for crimes they didn’t commit.” That part about ‘penalizing honest firearms owners for crimes they didn’t commit’ really hits home, doesn’t it?

Michael Bloomberg, founder of Everytown for Gun Safety, among his other failed gun control initiatives, along with the Alliance for Gun Responsibility, embodies everything that is wrong with the gun control movement and proves the point I am trying to make in this article. Immediately after the tragedy in Santa Fe, Texas, they sent out pleas for donations to ‘take a stand…against the gun lobby.’ I am sure they expressed condolences for the victims, but where was their outrage for justice against the perpetrator? Shouldn’t that have been the primary concern from a group that supposedly only wants to end gun violence and not take away the Second Amendment rights of law abiding gun owners?

“Time and again, we’ve heard these groups demand a national dialogue on guns. But how do you have a rational discussion with people or groups that repeatedly demonstrate that they cannot tell the difference between the bad guys and the good guys?” Gottlieb asked. This is not a onetime mistake either. Remember when Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns listed the Boston Bombers among its list of ‘victims of gun violence,’ after one was shot and killed and the other wounded in a gunfight with police?

Just as the time to hold criminals accountable for their actions is long overdue, gun control groups accountable for their action and inactions as well. Share your opinion in the comment section if you agree.

  1. I know I am pretty young to be talking about this, 13y, but this has effected my life. I hate to get into politics but I have to. Life in America has degraded. I’m not a Liberal or a Republican. I agree with the Republican party more for several reasons. First off when I was 12 My Liberal school sucked. Classmates saw me as a racist only because I was a tall straight blond blue eyed male. I wasn’t gay, trans, or just part of the LGBTQ+ community. Kids wouldn’t talk to me, and for a extremely social 12 year old that just sucked. Then during the whole COVID-19 shit-show, that well was a window for the Liberals to strike. Liberals would call people anti- Semitic if they didn’t get the vaccine, me included. This comment from me just shows how much America has affected people, youth included. Also WHAT THE HELL there just gonna take away our guns. Guns are not the problem, a gun can’t just walk up to someone and shoot them. A person has to be behind the trigger. Don’t ban guns but create stricter gun laws. For starters, stop drug misuse, make it harder for younger adults to get concentrated alcohol, such as brandy. Stop the cartels from selling rainbow fentanyl. Because so far only the rainbow police, Liberals, likes it because it matches their personality.

  2. As legal and responsible gun owners we submit to background checks to purchase firearms. It has been reported that, something like 35,000 prohibited individuals attempted to purchase and were denied through the background check. Some of these were likely honest mistakes or the dumbest criminals around, but those actually tracked down and arrested are like less than 1%! The form has an address on it for God’s sake! And if its a false address that is another crime. We need to look into this. Before the anti second amendment crowd is aloud to push through more ineffectual laws the existing ones need to be enforced!

  3. I understand its very hard to think clearly when one has a penis in ones mouth. And thatÔÇÖs the problem with libs/Dems. They are so busy sucking the dicks of minorities, gay/transgenders, and the slacker class who refuses to do anything productive for our society, it is totally impossible for libs/Dems to formulate a coherent thought. Well, I am sure theyÔÇÖre enjoying it!

  4. How do we take the fight to the Bloombergs, the Watts, the Hoggs, and other various anti groups that have a national platform? Where is my voice to counter their lies? Can we (pro-gun groups) bring legal action against their lies, slander and defamation? IÔÇÖm a member of the big name pro-gun groups to do my part, there just seems to be something missing to offer a counter to these anti-gun groups.

    1. Charlieking1-excellent question. they are organized, well funded and rabid in their quest for the unattainable utopia they seek. In order to counter the attacks on our freedoms we must become the same, unfortunately we all have real jobs and lives to attend to.

  5. Why are a certain brands of car, or every car not blamed when a drunk,or terrorist drive into a crowd and kills innocent people? These protestors and radical demorats are all hypocrites. How many have left a violent movie?Turned off a violent tv show? Quit playing violent video games? You never hear of them protesting Phonywood for the violence.
Unfortunately, the 20 and 30years old are going to ruin this country with the up coming elections.

    1. It’s been a while since I’ve seen these statistics but……..
Statistics have proved, there are more people killed in cars/trucks etc each year on streets and highways than are killed by firearms. They always leave out knives, poison, ball bats and other miscellaneous ways people are killed either accidentally or on purpose.

  6. @Spencer
    The Democrat party is no longer the party of your fathers!! Lieberals are now 100% Anti-American By adding Anti-Free Speech 100% AntiÔÇôFreedom 100% AntiÔÇôLife 100% Anti-Religion 100% Anti-Family 100% Anti-Truth 100% Anti-Business 100% Anti-Growth 100% Anti-Free Enterprise 100% Anti-Gun 100% Anti-Constitution 100% Anti-Patriotic 100% Anti-Responsibility 100% Anti-Morality 100% Anti-Liberty 100% Anti-God 100% Anti-Character 100% Anti-Energy

  7. For every shooting that’s occurred, numerous laws (both State and Federal), have been broken by the perpetrator(s). Yet every time, the cry goes out that passage of this legislation, would have prevented this particular crime. The Left fails/refuses to accept that laws prevent nothing. Laws are simply the means by which a civilized society attempts to curb or modify behaviors and contraband, by punishing the transgressor(s). The Left refuses to accept that fact and the evidence that supports it, because their real goal is a total ban and a disarmed citizenry.

  8. Gun grabbers are not afraid of criminals. It is only the “normal looking” gun holders who “go off” and start spree shootings. And most of those are not from the inner cities or known criminal element.

Why should gun grabbers attack a threat they do not consider a threat?

    1. So, Adam Lanza was “normal”? Nidal Hasan was “normal”? Even high-schooler, Nikolas Cruz, was well outside what most consider normal. So were Gavin Eugene Long and Micah Xavier Johnson! Those are just a few of the abnormal perps.

  9. They can try to pass all the gun control they would like but two things are for certain. I will not obey any law that violates my 2nd Amendment Rights and f anyone comes to take my guns they will be shot. I guess that sums it up.

    1. @ dprato When it comes to listening to fools who haven’t a fart’s chance in a tornado, to think I care about whether or not I am in compliance with some non-constitutional administrative ruling will be the least of my concerns, instead of listening to fools and traitors I exercise ALL my God Given Constitutional rights not caring what some one dimensional regressive politically correct lieberal bureaucrat wants!!! Instead I will focus on center mass, maintaining fire discipline, and assessing immediate threat vectors!

Let me make one thing perfectly clear, yes I am a Christian, and yes I carry a gun. One might think I carry a gun because I donÔÇÖt trust God. Well you would be wrong. I have complete faith in my Lord; itÔÇÖs an oppressive government that believes it has the right to dictate what I can and cannot have, can and cannot think or say, can and cannot eat or drink etc., I have no trust in! ╬£╬ƒ╬ø╬®╬Ø ╬øABE. Molon Labe

ÔÇØGun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.ÔÇØ

  10. Holy crap!!! Ya really dont want to get me started on this one. But to boil it down,
Its whatever is in direct opposition to whatever President Trump says or does.
It doesn’t matter how stupid or inane. If they can spin it against Trump, they will. For instance the MS13 animal comment. Immediately the President is BAD for using such harsh words against rapists and murderers. I’m actually surprised they didn’t jump the other way and blame the gun industry for the murders. I mean after all if these poor misunderstood souls didn’t have guns they wouldn’t be criminals. Man it all sounds so ridiculous. Oh….that was sarcasm by the way.
The dems are slowly cutting their own throats. Its kinda funny to watch, if it wasn’t such a waste of taxpayer millions.
    We’ll see my friends….we’ll see.

    1. Thank You for sharing about KKRBA. As a citizen living in one of America’s most gun-controlling states (Illinois) that coincidentally has one of the nation’s most gun-violent metro areas (Chicago), I though my only choices were NRA or Anytown/MDA. Have been splitting my efforts defending the one, and working with the other to balance their focus/perception on what is “reasonable legislation” – and elevating the rather shocking level of ignorance among their membership. I understand and embrace the in-your-face approach of Dana, Wayne and soon Oliver, but I also know that most main-streamers and every libtard rejects it and what they perceive it stands for, as much as they react against the style of our current president (even to the extreme of supporting MS-13 recently!) and often completely miss the good if not great contributions. We end up polarized on style, and it pretty much shuts down the potential for hearing or understanding on content. I’m also learning that “Bloomberg’s progeny” (Anytown/MDA) is truly a political animal that, in some ways, preys on the ignorance of well heeled main-streamers who truly want common sense good on the matter of gun violence. It’s an easy crowd to indoctrinate and feed a preconceived dogma and agenda – one that’s definitely originating from Bloomberg’s playbook, not for the grass roots citizenry.
I’d just say that those in the Shooter’s Log audience who stand pat on the 2A may benefit from reconsidering their inaction. There are groups out there likening NRA to the Tobacco Lobby of 40 years ago – it’s not an identity gun owners should allow to be thrown on them, and the gun control “lobby” is fighting hard for righteousness and moral authority that gun owners have taken for granted for a long time. Here in ILL, every gun control legislation is met with organized campaigns of free speech and active lobbying to legislators, and the gun control advocacy is becoming a political force to be reckoned with. In a far more liberal country than most of us grew up with, Gun advocates must adapt and overcome, or we’ll end up as the Dinosaurs. Once a Deerfield puts in a law that you can’t keep semi-auto firearms in your home, no matter how responsible a gun owner you may be, you’ve just been made a criminal. Best to nip that in the bud than be hiding, or fighting $1000 a day fines…

    2. Relocate, my friend. R-E-L-O-C-A-T-E! What will they regulate if there is no one left to be regulated?

    3. @70’s Ops What I don’t understand is why the leftists would rather see America fail and become a third world Schei├ƒland (get flagged using English) than to see Trump to succeed.

    4. Force Recon-It was disgusting the glee the talking heads expressed when reporting the talks with NOKO were in jeopardy. The idiots would rather see Trump fail than have world peace. That is how sick they have become in their hatred of our president. Any fool should be able to see the obvious bias demonstrated by these ‘news’ outlets, but apparently there are a lot of them out there. Wasn’t it Reagan that said ‘trust but verify’. That should apply to the news we get as well.

    5. joefoam;
Your absolutely right. The best part, was when they were dogging Trump for pulling out. Like he was chicken. They didn’t realize that he was displaying power. The NOKO’s were on the horn immediately. Even before the fake news could rally. Apologizing and stating we are ready anytime Trump wants.
They just dont get it. Not the libs, not the fake news.
And to your point about trust but verify. They can’t, or Fox news would be the only news source.

    6. Force Recon Marine;
That is the ultimate question. I mean there’s been a loser in every election. In my life of 65 years, I can’t recall any group of such sore losers.
They’re (dems) like spoiled kids. They didn’t get their way, so the tantrums ensue. Perhaps we should treat them like we USED to be able to treat our kids. Spank their ass, and send them to bed without their supper.
I think what’s pissing them off even further, is the fact that Trump is doing a pretty good job. More in 16 months, than the last several administrations combined.
Its the BALLS. Trump has them, they wish they did. In more ways than one, it seems.
In summation, I think its the age old, “if I can’t have it nobody can” even to the destruction of our country. Plus its fashionable to be “ANTI”. And we all know how important being fashionable is. HA!!!

  11. Lets end discrimination. The Bill Of Rights does not have a permission slip listed for anything. Public accommodations, businesses and services open to the general public, should be available to the whole public without discrimination. Since the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the federal government has recognized the unconstitutionality of discrimination in restaurants, bars, hotels, and businesses; it is time to follow suit and eliminate discriminatory practices in public places. Just as every other citizen who is acting in a legal manor cannot be denied access to public places. The legal system has, through due process, that certain persons cannot have access to firearms and cannot be near them. Therefore, they cannot enter gun stores. Why are public places able to post a sign denying access because they are lawfully baring arms. Just like the signs I saw as a youngster, “No Blacks” or “Whites ONLY”. I see the difference in the words, although the results are, a designated group are not wanted even tho they are law abiding persons.

  12. If they really cared about saving the lives of innocent children why do they turn a blind eye to the dozens of kids killed in Chicago or NYC or LA and try to blame the innocent gun owner or try to put an evil face on the NRA. Fact is they really don’t care about anything but the love affair they have for abolishing gun ownership in this country like immediate Nirvana will ensue, violence will cease to exist and we will hug out our differences.

    1. Truth be known, Democrats don’t give a rats butt about saving lives. The only thing they’re actually interested in, is control over the citizens of this country. FEAR IS THEIR NUMBER ONE MEANS TO CONTROL THE MASSES! Amazingly, the average person seems to scare easily. Democrats know this & use it daily. Then they come up with some cockamamy way of alleviating their fears, which by the way, NEVER WORK!! For example….. does anyone remember about Obama allowing hundreds of criminals out of prison early because we didn’t have enough room for new criminals & couldn’t afford to build more prisons. How convent it was for him to increase the criminal society population with one of his EXECUTIVE ORDERS! As always the Democrats always pass laws that will instill some level of fear whenever they pass some new law. But they will never, Never accept one iota of responsibility for any negative impact for the laws. THEY WILL ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO BLAME REPUBLICANS FOR THEIR DEEDS! THEY EVEN BLAME REPUBLICAN CITIZENS.
