The Colt Single Action Army revolver was the finest handgun of its day with excellent handling and exceptional accuracy. This is the still the single action revolver by which all others are judged. Best of all, Cimarron offers quality reproductions of the SAA featuring excellent accuracy and handling.
The EAA Witness Match .45 is an accurate handgun well worth its price. As for personal defense, a 10-shot .45 with the TruGlo combat light mounted is a terrific home defender. The pistol is similar to CZ 75-type handguns, but features a factory trigger that is as good or better than any the author has ever tested.
The Competition Pistol is a go-anywhere do-anything 1911, that while geared for competition, will also serve well for personal defense. Priced at less than $1,000 and generally available for $899 or less, the Competition Pistol is more than fair for a pistol with this pedigree and performance.
For the average shooter who takes their .270 or .308 to the range on the weekends, the .338 Lapua is like a Ferrari Enzo. Without devoting a large amount of time and resources, the cost of owning and maintaining a rifle in that caliber is too great for the payoff. However, being the stubborn sort, I figured there had to be a way to shoot the .338 while not having it rip a Grand Canyon sized dent in your wallet.
Glock’s introduction of the Generation 5 pistol has been much anticipated. The new pistol offers significant changes—more so than any previous generation. The first change to the Glock was the addition of a light rail. Next, came the finger groove frame and the rough texture frame later. Read the full review for other changes as well as range performance.
Most feel the .38-44 set the stage for the .357 Magnum revolver—and it did—but the .38-44 is more than a footnote in history. This is a fine revolver that is useful on its own merits. Buffalo Bore is famous for first-class loads that maximize the caliber, and this is no exception.
PTR builds an excellent 7.62x51mm rifle based on the Heckler and Koch G3 rifle. A semi automatic version of a reliable and accurate battle rifle, the PTR 91 rifle uses an interesting delayed blowback roller locking system that is different from most rifles. While there are other copies of the HK 91/G 3 rifle, the PTR is arguably the only one to boast equal quality.
RCBS is now offering the new ChargeMaster Lite for unparalleled powder-measuring accuracy in a compact package. Read the full release.
With an ammunition shortage coming and good quality ammunition at a premium now is the time to get the loading press cranked up and rolling. Here is one plan to keep shooting.
The Lee Loader is actually the lowest cost reloading option to start reloading on any tailgate, stump, rock, or worktable. At a paltry $30, everyone should have one in each caliber firearm they own. The Lee Loader does give you some great options in a package no other loader can match. Most importantly, with just the addition of a bullet mold and a Leatherman, the Lee Loader gives me the ability to scavenge nearly any pistol round to create ammunition for my gun, and that is what I call being prepared.
