Video: Should You Be the Good Samaritan?

The reason most start carrying a concealed weapon is self-protection, with the protection of those around you as a close second. When those around you are your loved ones, and the people whose lives or health is being threatened, it is a fairly easy decision of when to get involved. However, when the threat is merely in your vicinity, or the threat is too strangers, the decision becomes much more blurry. This is true in the individual’s mind and the mind of the courts or legal letter of the law. Watch the video for insights as to if, and when, you should get involved.

Daisy Red Ryder: A Boy’s Memory

I am sure many of the readers of The Shooter’s Log started out with a Daisy Red Ryder. Most will remember little Ralphie opening his Red Ryder on Christmas morning in The Christmas Story—or at least his mother’s warning about shooting his eye out with it. Others, such as myself, started with something owning a little more pep such as a Winchester Model 69A .22 Long Rifle—a single-shot bolt-action .22 LR that quickly taught me to make every shot count small game such as rabbits and squirrel. Fortunately, a few years after that, I got the Daisy and while Black Bart never crossed my path, I thoroughly enjoyed torturing my little green plastic army men in mock wars for months afterward.

Tough on Crime, Not Guns — Not in California

It’s comforting to know that California’s law-abiding gun owners will continue to be put under a magnifying glass to satisfy a political agenda that demonizes them while not accomplishing any true measure of safety. Meanwhile, criminals who openly victimize the Golden State’s citizens won’t have to worry about carrying that gun to commit their crimes. Gov. Brown says they no longer have to do the added time.

Call to Action: National Right to Carry Needs Your Help

The clock is ticking on the 2017 legislative year. We have made a lot of progress toward National Concealed Carry Reciprocity, but have made it across the line just yet. The NRA and like-minded Second Amendment advocate groups are doing their part, but also issuing calls to action for responsible gun owners to ensure that they protect and expand the right to keep and bear arms. The goal is to get them to cosponsor and support the passage of S.446 – the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, in the Senate and H.R.38 – the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, in the House.

By the Numbers: America’s Top 5 Shotguns

Semi-auto handguns topped the list, which was not much of a surprise. Likewise, semi-auto rifle topped it category, but when it comes to shotguns, that sweet sound of a pump being racked tops the list. Then again, with some of the awesome sales over the past couple of years, who hasn’t picked up a couple extras for when a SHTF scenario becomes reality?
