Twenty-one state Attorneys General have filed a joint amici curiae, or “friends of the court,” brief supporting the petitioning of the U.S. Supreme Court by plaintiffs, including the National Shooting Sports Foundation, to take up Kolbe v. Hogan, the case in which the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals decided Maryland could ban semi-automatic modern sporting rifles on grounds they are “like” firearms in use by the military.
Texas has always bred some of the most patriotic citizens and some of the most rebellious—all in the same package. The new round of laws passed by the legislature shows the same patriotic rebellious spirit by putting the power in the hands of the people. Lawmakers favoring gun control are continually talking about Australia’s gun control and how the United States needs to follow Australia’s lead. While laws attempting to abridge the Second Amendment are bad enough, Australia’s laws go far beyond simply banning guns. Australian laws bans fake or replica guns, crossbows, and several types of knives such as trench knives. You know, like the ones used in WWI, because those are common among street muggers and gang members these days…
According to the San Antonio Express-News, the 60-year-old instructor conducted classes on Tuesday while wearing a Kevlar helmet and a flak jacket in his protest of the law. Reaction on the comments page of the paper were mostly negative. With President Trump in the White House, the fight for the Second Amendment is going to happen at the local level. This makes it much harder for national Second Amendment groups such as the NRA-ILA or NAGR to fight. The Florida legislature passed a reinforced “Stand Your Ground” law in 2017. The new law stems from prosecutorial abuses, where people who are clearly justified in using force for self defense, are put through the criminal justice system, even though the chance of a conviction in the courts is slim.

For years, the anti gunners have railed against concealed weapon permits putting law-abiding self-defenders on the defensive (no pun intended). What would happen if we flipped the script and employers started requiring employees to get their permit? That would not force them to carry, but think of the environment? Everyone you work with would have passed a background check. How much safer would you feel working in an environment where all of your fellow employees was welcomed to be armed?
It sounds like the punchline to bad joke, “So, a guy is concealed carrying a handgun while filling out paperwork to buy another handgun, but he is in California, so he has to wait 10 days to pick it up—to give him time to “cool off” (guard against impulsive acts of violence). Unfortunately, that is not a joke. It is the logic of the gun control crowd… and a recent court ruling.
