I hope, before last winter, you changed out your bug out bag’s warm weather gear for cold weather gear and added a few things such as emergency Mylar blankets to keep you warm. Now, is the perfect time to switch your bug out bag’s load out for Summer.Of course, keep the essentials, such as food, water, flashlight, multi-tool, and a fire starter. However, heavy wool socks, coats, gloves and beanies can go. Switch those items out for lightweight, long-sleeve light colored t-shirts, a bandana, and rain gear. Keep your boots or sturdy athletic shoes and moisture wicking socks. Though comfortable, flip-flops and sandals are not ideal during a bug-out emergency.
Other items to add for spring and summer:
- Sun block, at least SPF 30
- First aid kit with bug bite relief
- Snake bite kit
- Sunglasses
- Insect repellant
- Lightweight sleeping bag
- Boonie hat or baseball cap
- Mosquito netting
- Frogg Toggs cooling gear

Studies show that suction kits do not help, and may actually worsen, snake bite injury:
