I have never recommended purse carry. The drawbacks are plenty. However, I do recognize that some women will only carry that way. It is your choice to make. I won’t chastise either way. If you choose to carry in your purse, you must be hyper vigilant it is there, not only to follow your state’s concealed carry laws, but in order to keep your handgun secured. The following are some tips if you decide to carry in your purse.
Fans of Rock Island Armory’s 1911 handguns affectionately refer to their pistol of choice as ‘The Rock.’ This nickname is appropriate and valid. These are reliable handguns and if they do not win a beauty contest, well, we don’t call the 1911 ‘Old Ugly’ for nothing.
Don’t be scared off when you read who makes the K2-45 .45 ACP pistol. Just because you are unfamiliar with the name, Sarsilmaz does not mean the company doesn’t make a good quality pistol. The only reason why you are unfamiliar with the name is because the Turkish manufacturer’s handguns have not been widely available in the United States for long. Based on CZ-75’s .45 ACP cousin, the CZ-97B, the K2-45 resembles a mix-match of the CZ with a SIG P220 slide. The alloy forged steel frame, slide and barrel make the K2-45 one helluva hefty beast.
Developed around the turn of the century by the famed John Moses Browning for Colt’s Manufacturing Company, this gun was adopted as the official sidearm of the United States Army in 1911. Since then it has been updated, changed, and rechambered to be the most ubiquitous and versatile handgun in all of the US.
Glock gave us the model 23 in 1990—an incredibly significant year in the firearms industry. First, was the introduction of the .40 S&W caliber. Collaboration between Smith & Wesson and Winchester, gave the world a 185-grain bullet that flies over 1,000 feet per second—a cartridge with nearly perfect balance of weight, mass, firepower, and consistent energy transfer. The FBI needed a gun to fit the new round and Glock answered the call with the models 22 and 23. The Glock 22 is full-sized, while the 23 is the compact model. Inspired by the Glock 19, the Glock 23 shares the same specifications as the iconic 19, except for the difference in caliber.
The original CZ 75, easily identified by the heavily-stepped slide and short slide rails, has been in production since 1975.
I generally avoid ranting on any of my blog posts. However, being an internet blogger means I get to break the rules a little bit. To make things a little easier, let us look at shopping for guns like we would shop for clothes or shoes—by occasion, size, price, and looks. To narrow down your choices, first figure out the primary reason you want to purchase a gun. Decide how much you can spend on the gun of your choice. Having a budget will narrow down your choices further.
When I first started shooting handguns, I had issues correctly gripping my handgun. A proper grip will help absorb recoil, provides shots that are more accurate and is safe. Your instinctive grip might be unsafe, especially on a semi-automatic pistol. Every time you pull the trigger to shoot a semi-auto, the slide moves back. If your thumbs are in the way, there is a possibility of the slide hitting them. You can solve many accuracy problems by correcting your grip.
