If the effectiveness of a bullet can be summed up in a single phrase, it would be “stopping power.” The more stopping power a bullet delivers, the more effective it will be at ending a confrontation in your favor. Make no mistake; stopping power and caliber do not share the direct correlation many people think.
Savage Arms trotted out a whole new stable of rifles in 2017. Among them is the B—meaning bolt action—Series 17 FV-SR, chambered in 17 HMR. We took it for a spin, curious to see if the company’s rimfire rifles perform as well as its big-bore models that have earned some real estate in my gun safe.
For those considering a shotgun, there is no shortage of arguments in your favor. Since its invention, the shotgun has served a defensive and offensive role in law enforcement, military duty, personal defense, and hunting. It is truly a multipurpose weapon. In the hands of a seasoned shotgunner, it offers a level of precision whether breaking clays or on the tactical shotgun course. However, in the home it can be the difference between life and death.
Federal Premium Ammunition’s Personal Defense HST offerings have become synonymous with concealed carry and home defense. While the most popular loads are obviously the first to leave the factory, wheel gun enthusiasts can now feel secure with the release of Federal Premium Ammunition’s Personal Defense HST Micro in 130-grain 38 Special +P. Here is the full release.
What is a riot gun? The riot gun is compact enough for any foreseeable need, handles quickly, and swings from one target to the other rapidly in trained hands. But, is it the best shotgun for tactical work? Read the entire—especially the plot twist at the end.
I am new to lever action rimfire rifles, having grown up with auto-loading 22 rifles like the Mossberg 702 and the Ruger 10/22. However, I was eager to review my Henry Golden Boy Silver the moment I picked it up at my local dealer, both as a firearm and from a perspective of someone completely new to the platform.
Smith and Wesson’s Victory .22 has garnered a lot of interest since its introduction a few months ago. The Victory .22 is intended to compete with similar .22 calibers handguns such as the Browning Buckmark and Ruger Standard Model. As such the Victory will have to have good features, good reliability, and acceptable accuracy. The price point is also important. Smith and Wesson’s previous .22 caliber self loaders were not in the class with this pistol and the hopes Smith and Wesson has pinned on this pistol are not without justification.
The PPS was a gun ahead of its time delivering a feature rich, accurate, and configurable, ready-to-carry single stack that could behave like a compact, mid- and full- sized gun. Based on two years of carrying and shooting the PPS, it is my perception that it is one of the best subcompact concealed carry single-stack guns on the market despite the introduction of many other competitor firearms.
Actually, owning two Desert Eagles, I would argue the Glock 10mm is “the” most reliable high power semi-auto pistol and the G29 is the smallest format available. The 10mm G29 is capable of delivering 600-800 ft./lbs. of energy depending on the ammo you feed it. Not bad considering you have 10+1 rounds on tap—it’s a lot of firepower in a very small concealable package. Best of all, shooters with medium to small hands can establish a comfortable and secure grip. Read the full review to learn the history of the 10mm and how the G29 performs.
Serious small game and varmint hunters demand more than standard performance from their rimfire loads. The Hunter Match 22 LR hollow-point lead bullet has been tuned for optimum penetration and expansion out to 100 yards, and its high-velocity loading provides the flat trajectories and energy to take down any target. Its nickel-plated case ensures flawless extraction and inhibits corrosion.
