I am not opposed to the 1911 platform. Most of us can agree there are some gorgeous 1911s. So, why do I own more than a dozen handguns and not a single 1911? One could start by saying I came of age at the same time as the Tupperware guns. Gaston Glock had really gotten his marketing ball rolling when I bought my first handgun in the dawn of the ’90s, but there is more to it than that.
CMMG’s MkG Guard is an AR-15 rifle that is chambered in .45 ACP and feeds from factory Glock magazines. At the heart of the Guard is the patent pending Radial Delayed Blowback operating system that works to harness the strong recoil impulse of .45 ACP. After extensive durability testing, CMMG is proud to announce that the Guard is safely rated for 450 SMC.
As the late Jeff Cooper remarked, the 10mm will do things at 50 yards the .45 ACP cannot. I am a believer in using enough gun for game and defense use. The SIG 10mm pistol will make a particularly effective home defender. The weight doesn’t matter in home defense, and the balance and recoil control make for an easy handling 10mm handgun. Read the full review to see how it performed at the range.
Ruger’s latest SR1911 is a bold step. The 10mm auto cartridge is a powerful number that gives handgunners a viable cartridge for long-range use and hunting of medium-sized game. It is suitable for defense against animals and a viable service and personal defense cartridge. The SR1911 differs considerably from previous pistols and may arguably be one of the best 10mm 1911 handguns ever built.
Actually, owning two Desert Eagles, I would argue the Glock 10mm is “the” most reliable high power semi-auto pistol and the G29 is the smallest format available. The 10mm G29 is capable of delivering 600-800 ft./lbs. of energy depending on the ammo you feed it. Not bad considering you have 10+1 rounds on tap—it’s a lot of firepower in a very small concealable package. Best of all, shooters with medium to small hands can establish a comfortable and secure grip. Read the full review to learn the history of the 10mm and how the G29 performs.
Developed around the turn of the century by the famed John Moses Browning for Colt’s Manufacturing Company, this gun was adopted as the official sidearm of the United States Army in 1911. Since then it has been updated, changed, and rechambered to be the most ubiquitous and versatile handgun in all of the US.
