  1. I’ve had the Romeo 5 on my AR12 for two years now and have put approximately 1,000 rounds through it. Dead on accuracy every time! Great sight for the money. Will be getting my first AR15 this year and I’m going to try a vortex strikefire 2.

  2. Larry Welling is our winner! Thanks to everyone who entered and best of luck for the next giveaway.

  3. I have a Vortex red dot that I swap between my AR and a pistol. It would be nice to have a dedicated red dot so I don’t have to keep swapping sights and resighting.

  4. Let’s get lucky once looking actually to red dot my host HK 22lr I just picked up & chances of winning slim regardless will still be grabbing 1 of these MUST HAVES

  5. Great article (as always) on red dots. Love the blog and CTD site. Great deals and awesome support for the shooting sports.

  6. I have 2 Holosun HS403GL sights, and they are awesome. I’m really looking forward to the Shake Awake feature on this 503CU.

  7. Currently building my first AR! So happy to get into this wonderful hobby! A red dot would be something new to me! Thanks for the amazing article!

  8. EOTech. Great info, thanks CTD. Looking for red dots for a couple of my pistols as well, would like to see an article for those as well. Love CTD

  9. Good info, thank you. AR’s pack a lot of motion with a trigger pull. Whatever optical device is chosen, make sure it can take a punch or you will spend half of your time adjusting things.

  10. Those all look like great choices. I appreciate the input as I am about to start a 300 Blackout pistol build.

  11. I’m a new gun owner, and with prices for ammo so very high I’m looking for a way to improve my actuary without spending a fortune. Someone suggested that a red dot would help. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a new gun owner?

  12. The Aimpoint Micro T2 features are really appealing to me for home defense:
*Waterproof (54″ of rain per year in Florida)
*50000 hours (My Hiram only ran 100 hours)
*Reinforced turret Locks it down (so does not get dinged off target)
*Smallest and lightest (easiest to draw from concealment)

I would rate it #1 but I am far from the sharpshooter that the Holosun and others appeal to.

  13. Thanks for allowing me to participate in the drawing. Love going on the website and seeing new sales and new stuff coming out. Hope I’m the lucky chosen one.

  14. Picked up a Crimson Crace and a Romeo5 to put on a couple of my carbines, I like them both. I am thinking about a Holosun 507 for my handgun.

    1. You’re the winner! Sending an email with instructions to confirm your prize.

  15. I have used Sightmark Ultra for the last 10 years because I just can’t afford a new and nice one. It’s simple and was cheap, but has done the job the last few years. I can say I’m definitely in need of a NEW red dot. Any of the above mentioned would be better than what I currently have and be a huge blessing is I win.

  16. The Holosun is great because of the solar charging capabilities. It is outstanding because of the great field of view and its ability to dial in your shot to accurately put rounds down range. Great recommendation.

  17. This is an excellent article, especially considering the number of new players in the red dot game. Thank you CTD!

  18. Wow! The technology advances in sights during my lifetime have been amazing. My old Savage .22 is a real tack driver!

  19. Waiting for my new 80% receiver so I can build aAR pistol. This article was very timely. Would be great if it had approximate prices for the featured RDSs.

  20. Waiting for my new 80% receiver so I can build a pistol. This article was very timely. Would be great if it had approximate prices for the featured RDSs.

  21. Good to know I have a Sig Romeo and in the process on a new project. So will be shopping for something soon.

  22. Red dots are great, but don’t forget about having iron sights as back up. As the saying goes 1 is none and 2 is 1 when SHTF!

  23. Very informative. As a owner of one that made the list and one other that didn’t I now have an easier choice for my next optic. Thanks!

  24. It seems as though the red dot sight is for a long a or can it be used on a handgun as well? Either way it would be a nice collection to add for the weapons you may have in stock. Nice pictures item .

  25. Never had a red dot sight. Based on my research and the reviews online, the Holosun HS503CU red dot sight is very good but it is also very expensive. It would be my dream to have one on my new AR pistol that I just purchased. Make my wish come true. Stay safe and stay healthy!!!

  26. I love my M21 for my AR, my favorite things about some optics is that they are solar, tritium, or fiber optic powered, it’s one less thing to worry about in an optic, and having a red dot for my C93 would be great. I appreciate and thank you for having this contest available, and the knowledge that is provided here. Thank you

  27. I really like the Romeo 5 sight. It has a long battery life and stays at 0. I have it on my Gold cup .45 and it is easy to interchange between the .45 and my crossbow.

  28. I have never used one of these but am looking to acquire one and if I were to win I would be the happiest guy on your list. Thanks for the chance..

  29. Nice list. I went with the Romeo5 for the price, reviews and Sig quality. It would be great to have another RDS so I can have one on each weapon.

  30. The holosun looks to be a great choice for fast short range shots, solar backup, 2 height settings, dot, or circle dot, price isn’t bad, I do wish it was made in the U.S.

  31. I enjoy reading comparison articles on products that give ratings.

Thank you for the opportunity to win one also.

  32. happen to be looking for a red dot option for a new caliber AR upper I just received, pleased to see this short article.

  33. Where were these when I was a kid? My son has the SIG ROMEO-5 and it’s sweet. The winner will really be blessed!

  34. Great article — I look forward to your weekly articles on self-protection!

Hope to win the drawing — long time customer…

  35. I would prefer to have the option for magnification, but inside 200 yards or so, 1x still works great.

  36. Holosun without a doubt is a great option and knowing that they bought Sig Sauer and makes their optics is a bonus for the Sig Sauer red dot fans.

  37. Very informative. I just aquired my first AR platform pistol and found this article very helpful with my search to dress my new pew-pew. Thank you.

  38. I was just getting ready to purchase a red dot scope; your great and informative article couldn’t have come at a better time!! Thanks again, I hope I win so I don’t have to buy one!!

  39. It is such a shame too see aimpoint ranked lower than the other companies. They are definitely still rugged and ultra durable red dots.

But are lacking in red dot technologies like the other brands. I have personally found that for the value, the red dot technologies found in holosun products are truly amazing.

For me personally only holsuns red dots provide my astigmatism with a precise – rapid – and distort free view.

Otherwise the more expensive eotech is required for people with eye problems like me.

  40. Glad I found this article. It contains a few red dots that wasn’t previously considering. I’ve built two AR pistols so far. One in .300 Blackout and the other in 5.56. One of these will prob make it atop my next pistol build. Anyone here tried the Romeo+Juliet combo?

  41. Just got a AR pistol a week before the order—hate to say it but I knew it was coming. Now I just need to stock up on gear for it and this Holosun sight would be perfect

  42. I have recently purchased a Springfield Saint AR pistol. I have been doing extensive research and the Holosun would be a great addition to my growing arsenal.

  43. I am surprised the Leupold Freedom RDS made the list. I haven’t seen many reviews giving the Leupold red dots positive accolades……..but, I haven’t bought one and tried it out, so can’t ay anything of help anyway.

  44. I’ve got a LPVO on my current rifle setup, but I’m thinking a RDS at 45 offset or picking up an AR pistol with an RDS would be far better for in case something goes bump in the night.

  45. A good friend of mine has a Holosun and swears by it, I’ve always been a Leupold or Vortex guy, might have to make a switch!

  46. Excellent article, especially cause I’m looking for a reliable, good red dot for my new AR. This helps a lot.

  47. I love reading lists like this, gives me a good place to start when looking into new products to buy. Thanks!

  48. Great article. I am now in the market for a new site this gives me great information and to read The different opinions that people have is great information. Awesome article.

  49. Growing up with iron sites and being forced to learn to use them, it has been a revelation as to just how easy it is to teach young shooters to shoot using red dots. My six year olds enjoyment for shootings has went way up since I swapped out for a red dot.

  50. Finishing my AP/Ballistic Adv 10.3″ 5.56 AR pistol build & am too cheap to run out & buy any one of these highest quality red dots, so thank you for the opportunity!!

  51. I have a Vortex on a 22/45 lite and it made it awesome. Quick target acquisition and dead on accuracy. Now if I had one for an AR platform..hmmm

  52. They are all great red dots definitely a hard pick through the bunch but most definitely great choices.

  53. Sometimes the internet robots bring you information and emails you don’t want or need.

Sometimes they bring you exactly what you were looking for. It’s creepy, sure, but this is a well timed article!

Stop stalking me Cheaper Than Dirt, you keep finding ways to get my money (just kidding, keep at it!)

  54. This a nice article. Just getting into red dots, trying to find a good one. Plus the giveaway is nice.

  55. For use on a bugout gun I noticed The Holosun HS503CU is a red dot sight that runs off a solar charge with a battery backup.
This makes it better for situations where there is no grid to supply batteries.

  56. Great article. I would have liked to see more holographic sights in here though. Gives a better perspective of what is on the market

  57. I have the Aimpoint on my AR that I just purchased. It works nice but would like to compare it to something else. This is the first red dot scope I have used. Thanks for the info and the chance to win the Holosun.

  58. I have a few red dots remember to shut them off the auto shut off is a nice feature. If I win I’ll have to buy another gun , dang!! I’ll work with you though.

  59. Solid List, I’d add no others. I love the Holosun, I had an opportunity to use a buddies, that is a well-build piece of equipment, I hope to own one.

I have the Romeo-5 married to a SIG Juliet3 3x Magnifier. I recommend this is you do not have the Holosun.

Pistol Platform: I use the Romeo-5, it co-witnesses to my flip-ups making it the perfect package for that platform. I quickly get on-target and follow-up shots are equally quick.

I can then take the Romeo-5 and magnifier and put it on my carbine and feel right at home. The magnifier co-locates to the Romeo perfectly making deeper target hits doable even in lower light.

    A nice package.

  60. I’ve currently got 3 romeo 5s but would absolutely love to have the #1 that you’re offering.

  61. Thanks for the information and a chance to win. I’ve been a Cheaper than Dirt customer for a long time.

  62. Thanks for the review and comparisons on the Red Dots. Always looking for the best fir when considering my next purchase.

  63. I just purchased a 5.56 AR pistol, I don’t have a red dot sight yet, and It would be hilarious if I won since April 19 is my birthday. Great article! Gave me some options.

  64. I’ve used red dot, reflexive or Acogs during my military career. You have to appreciate the precision and accuracy of red dot sights. I have the perfect rifle for this red dot if I’m selected.

  65. The Holosun HS503CU description states that it is unaffected by extreme weather conditions. Does that mean it is submersible??

  66. For over 20 years I have used an Aim Point on my Red Hawk 44 Magnum revolver. While it is much larger than new units, it has never let me down

  67. I just received a romeo 5 and love it. Try’ed it on ar-9 long and short barrel with great accuracy, and reliability.

    Thanks
    stephan

  68. The Holosun’s use of solar power is an interesting approach to extending battery life. I’m curious to see long-term reports of battery life in real-world use.

  69. I would use any of the above-mentioned red dots on any of my AR or AK platforms. I currently own a Sig Romeo 5 and I love its versatility and features. I would love to win the Holosun and see how they compare. I have several rifles I’d like to try it out on. Great article filled with lots a of info to consider when I purchase my next red dot sight. Thanks.

  70. I was looking for a Reddot for a 300 BlkOut build I was doing during the COVID lockdown, and everything was on backorder. I originally was looking for an AIMPoint or SiG but I finally decided to give HoloSun HS515CM Military Grade paired with the HM3X Flip to Side 3x Red Dot Magnifier QD Mount a try, and now I am a convert. Because of that build I have recently started to switch my other Reddots to HoloSun. The optics are very crispy and the nicest feature like some other have is that you don’t have to remember to turn it on or off as the optic powers on or off with movement. Great little dots with alot of features and quality built in for the money. It never has lost zero and is built to take a beating.

  71. Wanting to be save up for the Romeo 5 but if I win, I can spend the money on other things for my build.

  72. I am going to save up for a Romeo 5, but I will be happy if I could win the contest and spend the money on other things.

  73. I have both the EO Tech and the Sig.
I love them both for different reasons.
I would love to win the Holosun to add to my new build. Please pick me!
Thanks for all the great informative articles!

  74. Thanks for the excellent review of the top red dot sights. Nice to having them all in one location. Going to save this article for a future purchase.

  75. I like the Holosun optics with the circle dots the best. They seem to be very rugged and reliable for their price points. The circle dots seem to tame the astigmatism “flare” issues I experience with standard dots. The circle really helps you find center and get on target quick. And they shut off and automatically, but ‘Shake Awake’ at the slightest movement, saving battery life, AND keeping you from forgetting to turn it on, should you need it IN A HURRY.

  76. Great choices all around and very informative reviews to help shooters choose the optic that fits their requirements.

  77. Great selections. Prefer a red dot with solar option and back up battery. My choice would be the Holosun HS503CU.

  78. I’ve used the Aimpoint PRO exclusively and find it to indeed be rugged and dependable. It is a bit on the heavy side, but its position still maintains good rifle balance. Having said all that, if I were to experiment, my choice would be the Holosun. I’ve seen many good articles and videos about it and would like to try it some day.

  79. Real nice web site and love everything with it! Also tryna win this red dot sight to put on my new ar with the new fore grip I got on the website.

  80. Just built my first AR and need to get a sight on it to supplement my magpul flip-ups. My buddy told me to get a Holosun, so this giveaway has perfect timing! But that Leupold and EOTech look nice too!

  81. Its funny that this article came up because just today I was looking for a red dot to put on my Remington 870 for Turkey season.

  82. Is the Romeo 5 better than the Holosun? All of the red dots sights look amazing. Hopefully I get to win one and try it out.

  83. I personally like trijicon, but honestly only because that’s all I’ve ever had experience with so far. That being said though, trust me when I say, I DO NOT MISS! LOL!

  84. Great article. I have a different Holosun red dot on my 300blk and love it. I totally need one for my .223 build. Just couldn’t decide on what one I should get.

  85. Nice little article. I have a number of Vortex sights mounted to my rifles, and getting ready to mount a Venom to my PMR-30.

  86. Picked up an eotech xps3-0 last year, my favorite sight by a long shot, just wish it had the battery life that my holosun has!

  87. Romeo 5 is a good choice, although I’ve never tried the others, it’s always good to know what options are out there.

  88. I like the fact that the Holosun also has the aiming circle. I think it helps bring the eye to the center quicker for me.

  89. This was very informative! I’m excited for this giveaway, I just got my first AR so would be amazing to receive!!!

  90. As always, great info on a relevant topic. I appreciate the fact filled read. Still, it’s hard to pick so, please, ease the pain and pick me.

  91. Excellent list. I have the Romeo 5 on one rifle and the Holosun on another. Couldn’t be more happy with the both of them.

  92. Nice for a quick acquisition. Appreciate the contrasts.

I like the solar back-up. I tend to run through batteries between uses.

  93. Great informative Article. Fingers crossed on the giveaway, the red dot sight would look great on my new DB-9 AR-Pistol!

  94. I put an Eotech on my KSG and went too a buddies place with a bunch of coworkers.and lost three screws too the shroud (it only comes with 4 . Ordered new ones but moved before I replaced them, now have no idea where they are.the surest way too find them is too order more.

  95. I’m an avid shooter and have to budget red dots which have served me well. Have wanted a leupold Freedom RDS one of the best rot dots you could buy. I’ve had seven back surgeries so it’s been pretty hard being out of work and trying to afford a quality red dot. I’m keeping my finger🤞

  96. Great article! I’m looking to put a red dot on my pws, and was already leaning towards getting a Holosun.

  97. I have been a Holosun fan for years now.
One of the clearest red dot systems for my astigmatism. I love the circle dot system.

  98. Just bought my first AR and I have been searching for the right red dot. Winning a free Holosun would be super clutch!

  99. I love my Holosun and trijicon optics. I have three of each. The newest additions are the Holosun 507kX2 and 509T.

  100. I loved my holosun and trijicon optics. I have 3 of each and are very happy. Newest additions are the 507Kx2 and 509T

  101. I own 1Romeo 5 and 2 Romeo 4s. The Romeo 5 is a great sight with a good field of view and shake awake technology. Battery life is good with the cr2032. It’s been a solid sight and the warranty is fantastic. I would love to have an Aimpoint Pro or Eotech XPS3-0.

  102. I’ve been trying to figure out which red dot I want for my AR pistol and this has definitely helped me narrow it down to some good choices.

  103. I’ve been thinking of getting a red dot for my AR pistol and this has definitely helped me in trying to figure out which one would be the best for me.

  104. I remember just before we deployed to Iraq getting boxes of Aimpoint M68 red dot sights and Trijicon scopes. I was like a kid in a candy store. Love a good Red Dot especially paired with a flashlight for room clearing.

  105. The SIG Romeo 5 is a good red dot for the money. It also has an auto-off / auto-on feature (off after no movement after a couple of minutes, and automatically turns on when moved.

I’ve wanted to check out the Holosun flavor of red dots for awhile, they have great reviews.

  106. I’m buying an AR pitstol next month and this would be an excellent start. My friend has a Holosun Red Dot and loves it. It takes a beating in the swamp and has held up better than anything twice the price.

  107. I built one of my AR15s, buying a complete upper and a complete lower. It’s a bit of a stretch saying that I built it, but since I “put it together”, I going with “I built it”. LOL It is a pretty plain-Jane and any of the red dot optics would be a great upgrade. Great article and if I don’t win a free one, I will consider buying one of the ones in the article. Thanks!

  108. Good information in this article. I could use a good red dot for my last build. Have been through too many cheap ones to waste $$ on inferior products anymore. Like your recommendations.

  109. More articles like this. I really enjoye these weekly.
Thanks and I am now close to making a decision for my 300 aac pistol optic but winning one would be sweeter!
    He

  110. All nice picks, can’t go wrong with either. I have the Vortex strikefire2, been good to me so far. PICK ME!!

  111. Aim point pro or trijicon would be my preference. I’d be happy with any of them at zero cost. They’d be great on my new DD AR pistol.

  112. I’m not sure how holosun tops trijicon or eotech. I hear they are the best, and see alot of guys using them. Personally I only have a sig Romeo 5. I’m just entering the world of guns. I will probably end up trying a holosun at some point. I have seen reviews that they are great for entry level shooters! Maybe I’ll win this one !

  113. Very good article. I have a couple of cheaper red dot’s that I don’t use anymore. I will most likely try the Sig 5 in the future.
    Thanks for the info!

  114. As Borat would say, VERY NICE!! Hoping I can win the giveaway, but aren’t we all? lol God bless y’all

  115. I currently have the Romes 5 and a Romeo 1. The above red dots are all nice. Thanks for the information and a entry to the Giveaway.

  116. EoTech is the proven leader in red dot sight. I’ve carried the HGWS-2 for six years. Never lost ZERO!! and traveled across the country multiple times!! Awesome piece of Gear!

  118. I tried a laser sight on my gun and it just broke the solder connections inside it. So I’m curious if this red dot would hold up. It looks pretty cool though.

  119. I love the Romeo 5 but your list left me salivating I am definitely going to do more homework I got some awesome ideas.

  120. I don’t really care which one you would like to send me. I just hope our country can recover from the damage the looney bozo’s running our country are doing.
    GOD BLESS AMERICA

  121. I never really considered using a red dot sight before. However, this post has me thinking about them.

  122. I’ve been trying to decide between the Sig Romeo 5 and something else. You might have moved the needle a little. Thanks for this info.

  123. So far, I have used the Romeo5 on 3 of my rifles. I can’t argue with the options it provides or the price point. Very good article and glad to see the one I use is in that group. Please enter me in your contest. I hope to hear from you soon 😉.

  124. The solar powered options are interesting. Does the solar panel provide enough power to use the sight without a battery?

  125. I would love to get one of these for my AR. I have a cheaper one that is hard to zero in and stay. Also the battery is forever dieing

  126. For the money the Romeo 5 is pretty good. I like it I have one one my AR pistol and my FX 9 as well.

  127. I have always loved your site for the information as much as the quality products, but now you have definitely won my respect for not bowing down to biden and others trying to take away our freedom. I would love to win this for my husband since his scope just broke. (Not bought from y’all) 🙂

  128. I’ve heard pros and cons on all of them… EOTech being the best but definitely out of my budget. I’m shopping for 3 red dots currently so price has to be a major factor along with the quality of the optic.

  129. So glad we have good company’s out there that keep us informed. Haven’t had the opportunity to use a red dot yet. Scopes are not very easy finding the field through my glasses

  130. The Holosun red dot is a great alternative to some of the more pricey micro red dots out there. The dot itself is super visible and it has multiple brightness settings.

  131. I’m wondering how long the solar charge would last and how often one would need to get the gun out in the sun to keep the battery charged?

  132. Great article, and information. But, now I’m in a little bit of a quandary. I had decided to go with the HS503C for my standard AR in .223, and the HS510C for my Saint SBR in .300, but you didn’t mention the HS510. What am I missing?

  133. Nice offerings, sure wish ammo prices would get back to normal. Now with old eyes the AR red dots are starting to make my wallet quiver.

  134. I have a couple of the Sig red and green dots and like them at there price range. Holosuns are really nice too. Would enjoy having the Holosun HS503CU on one of my firearms!!

  135. I have the Trijicon on an A.R. .556 pistol and the Sig on another. Both are awesome examples of technology and efficiency. I’d love to have the Holosun and preview it along side the others I have. Thanks for the opportunity!

  136. I currently run a SIG Romeo 5 on my AR pistol. It is a good all around optic with all the basic bells and whistles you could want in a red dot with a decent price point. I would say that with an astigmatism, that holographic red dots seem to have the best focal points with the least amount of bleed over on your target. I originally wanted a Holosun Paralow 503G, but they are somewhat hard to come by these days. My next purchase is going to be a EOTECH G33.STS 3x Magnifier to add to my rig. And I love the idea of solar back up for my battery!

  137. Have several Leupold scopes and have been a fan for a while. All of these look like a great addition to an AR platform but solar powered is an interesting add on.

  138. I love these thangs. Finally got my stimulus and got stimulated to buy one. My Lawd, it was mahvelous! Got that Romeo thing and fell in love with it. Had so much hemlock I decided to buy another. I also love the Holosun that can run on sun pow’r. What will folks think up next?

  139. I have only used one red dot sight before on a firearm that was not mine and it was an EOTech. It was amazing! I know the other brands listed are great as well but the EOTech was phenomenal! If only I could afford to buy one. I found the article and list to be a wonderful read!

  140. I have been using red dot scopes on my muzzleloaders for years. My favorite is a Pro Aimpoint that I bought more than ten years ago. You can dial in a couple different reticles besides two different sized dots.

  141. Really good list. The Eotech is great but the price tag hurts. I’m surprised no Vortex sights made it on this list though!

  142. THIS is just what I need. I wear bifocals and have a difficult time acquiring my sight picture. It took me forever to get my rifle sighted in and any of these would be great for me. Good luck to everyone that entered.

  143. I’ve used a few Trijicon optics, the RCOs are not my favorite, but they do make optics that can take some punishment.

  144. I’m a big fan of red dots (within 50 yds.). And would love to put one on a couple of my rifles. To win one would be great!

  145. Very good information, looking forward to purchasing my first red dot sight. Haven’t decided which one.

  146. Get article. Perfect timing I am just finishing up my latest AR build and am in the market for a new optic.

  147. I have used the Aimpoint PRO for years and love it. Just got an Eotech for my ne rifle. I would love to try the Holosun.

  148. I love the Holosun red dot I have. It would be nice to add a solar powered one to my collection as well!

  149. Holosun is stepping up to fill the void of people who want a great site and can’t afford the RMR or Sig pro!!

  150. I never win anything but like a gluten for punishment I keep entering these giveaways.
Come & Take it if you want it
Come & Take it if you think you can
Come & Take it but I’ll warn you
You’ll have to pry it from our cold dead hands
The right to keep & bear arms shall NOT be infringed!

  151. Nice I could benefit from any of these options for my 1st AR, just waiting for the state police to approve the background check, the cue here in Oregon is 6000 strong! Taking about 16 days for ffl to clear a transfer.

  152. I really like the idea of the Holosun solar optics. I have unfortunately never had the chance to use one, but the battery-free Mepro M21 that I have is WONDERFUL, and I love Holosun’s idea of combining that freedom with the sharpness and clarity of a battery operated sight.

  153. Just picked up my “Biden Special” a few months ago so its still bare and I’m in the market. Thanks for the great article. Any one of these would be a good addition to it.

  154. very nice for your gun alot of different models to chose from. great that you are going to have a giveaway.

  155. I’ve been looking for a nice red dot for my gun, so this information helped me a lot. This would be my first purchase of one by myself and for myself! I want one sooo bad just want an accurate, dependable one I can brag on. Being a girl who loves guns I’ve had to learn a lot on my own!

  156. Thanks for all the reviews and the chance to win! I like the EOTech, but I’d definitely try the Holosun on my new 350 Legend!

  157. Got an EOtech and I’ve heard great things about the Holosun. I would love to try it. Oh, and Biden can take his wobbly ass to China where he belongs.

  158. I’ve been thinking about getting a holosun Reddot. This is confirmation that it’s a decent sight and worth the money. Thanks.

    Jack

  159. I like the Holosun with auto on feature with button cell battery. Vortex Sparc AR another good option with similar profile and uses AAA traditional battery.

  160. I picked up a used Vortex Razor in a trade which I really like. Trijicon and Eotech are next on the list because I hate money

  161. I have a ROMEO5 on my KelTec RFB. Not sure how it works w/ 5.56 but it’s a tack driver with 7.62NATO.

  162. Would def. Love to have the holosun my dot is junk and really don’t have the cash to buy one I mean just to shoot a little eats up my budget (2$bullets)and all love the log!be blessed.krisb

  163. I’m shooting the Vortex Viper. Ot has the ability to change batteries without removing the site

  164. It is incredible, how much “red dots” have improved in the past few years…
Can’t wait to see future modifications

  165. I’ve never used a red dot on my AR, my friend has one and is willing to let me try it the next time we go shooting.

  166. I’m in the market for a Red Dot but haven’t had the time to really shop around. The selection you’ve put forth seem to be excellent and gives me a great starting point. Nice job.

  167. I have a ROMEO MSR and absolutely love it. I’m looking for another sight. The holosun hs503cu would be a great one!

  168. For some the Holographic Site is easier to get on target but for some with older tired eyes get their faster with RED DOTS and some even better and faster wih bigger tubes. In my particular case, the HOLOSON is the best fit. I have looked at them but have yet stepped up to ppurchase. If I win one then I will be very grateful and use my “extra” money for AMMO!

  169. Romeo 5 is my go to! But only because I’ve been waiting on a vortex AMG to ship for the last 6 months and the ship date keeps getting farther away.

  170. Love the red dots, lot quickeer and easier to acquire than regular sights. Lot of good info here. Didn’t make as good a choice on my first one, so definitely looking to upgrade to a better one for my AR.

  171. OK I’ll give it a shot (pun intended). As a retired US Marine of over 20 years, who always shot high expert with only the given hard sights on the pistol or rifle, not sure how your product will improve my ability to zero in on the target for a take down shot, but willing to expand my horizons and try one if the opportunity presents itself.

  172. Good info, I currently have a romeo s with magnifier but like others, I’m always looking at new ones.

  173. The Sig Romeo5 is great. I also have a couple of its cheaper cousin, the Sig Romeo MSR, which is also a fine red dot. Though missing some of the nicer battery features of the Romeo5, the MSR has built-in lens covers which is nice for a more often carried AR like a pistol, and has a simplicity to the “user interface” that’s makes it a good set of tradeoff features.

  174. I hear good things about Holosun. Have not had the opportunity to run one. Would b great to give a run and hopefully promote it to our agency (all patrol rifle optics are personally supplied).

  175. Romeo 5 is my go to! But only because I’ve been waiting on a vortex AMG to ship for the last 6 months and the ship date keeps getting farther away

  176. Nice article, just picked up a cheap red dot to get my by. Will pick up one of these when the budget allows.

  177. Sounds like the Holosun HS503CU is what i need. I’ve tried many, still looking for “the one” for me. Going to have to give it a whirl.

  178. All nice choices. I wonder how realistic these are under a real stress situation. Point instinctive shooting versus one of these. Just a thought.

  179. THESE TYPE OF RED DOTS ARE WONDERFUL FOR AN OLDER SHOOTER. WHEN I FIRST TRIED A RED DOT, I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE IMPROVED TARGET ACQUISITION AND ACCURACY IT PROVIDED FOR MY OLDER EYES.

  180. Articles like this are what we need more of! Glad to see the Holosun getting the respect it deserves.

  181. Another vote for the Romeo 5! I’ve got two already, one on an AR pistol and the other on a carbine version. Great little sight that’s super simple to use and quickly acquires targets. If I win, I’ll give the Holosun a try, fer sure!

  182. I haven’t used any of the expensive brands but I’ve used several “affordable” red dot sights, and Holosun is by far the best of the affordable sights.

  183. I enjoy receiving the CTD newsletter, it is always informative and as a fairly new shooter I appreciate all of the info I can gather. Looking for a red-dot for my latest firearm purchase so this article was timely and helpful. Thanks!
P.S. All shooters – Please make sure you vote in any and all elections. Let our voices be heard!

  184. I like repticals. Red Dot/Green Dot reflex sights. Big sights. Little sights. Fat sights. Thin sights. All sights are day sights but the best sights are night sights.

  185. I have the EOTech holographic sight and love it!

Please enter my name in the drawing — can use it as an excuse to buy another gun!

  186. I have several Holosuns, very good sights. You must have 50,000 hrs of life and auto shut-off, at a minimum.
Rudolph Optics also has a red dot with a similar layout to the Aimpoint T-2. The only difference I see is that the Rudolph is a 3 moa dot.
It would also be useful to list which come with risers, and if they are co-witness, or taller.

  187. I just purchased my first AR9 pistol and this would be a great addition for the purchase. If I don’t win the optic, the article has helped me make a decision on what to buy.

  188. Just got my first AR-15 and am looking for a sight of some type. I learned a things from your article. Thank you very much and have a great day!

  189. Great stuff, and what a great giveaway. Talk about perfect timing, I’ve been shopping for a red dot for a couple months since my latest self defense purchase, but have been holding off till I could afford the best quality AND value. Your number one choice looks perfect for me!!!

  190. Always liked the Trijicon, but all are good options. Was not really familiar with the Holosun though, but it looks very interesting, and would like to try it. Thanks to author Alex Cole for a good overview, and to CTD for always offering great values and a chance to win a Holosun HS503CU.

  191. Very nice offer. I’ve been searching for a good red dot sight. I think this would be a perfect fit.

  192. have a romeo 5 and have not been happy with its performance red dot is not round and has a smaller red dot shadow. have not used any of the ther red dots.

  193. The Holosun Red Dot is still my first choice in sights. It is very affordable and still doesn’t give up build quality or features.

  194. I have no experience with any optics yet but have researching one to put on my AR and have been leaning towards Holoson and this article has definitely confirmed my choice of the Holoson. Maybe I can get lucky and get this Holoson giveaway.

  195. I have two of trijicons red dots one being the MRO great site would definitely buy again. How bout a piece on the best shotgun red dots? Keep up the great info pieces.

  196. I like eotech, never had any issues with them, holds true and is quite easy to see through. Holosun has been coming up in the ranks quite quickly. I’d like to see what it can do!

  197. As a newby who’s a bit overwhelmed by the number of offerings, some guidance is much appreciated. Thank you.

  198. Nice article giving a lot of good information to compare all of the sites and red dot scopes. I would love to win this.

  199. That 1 and 2 MOA dot is just too small.

For fast shooting you need something closer to 4 or 6 MOA.

That is still only 2-3 inches wide at 50 yards.

For 100+ yards you really need to get a scope and some magnification.

  200. Shortly after purchasing my AR (M&P Sport 2) i knew i wanted a red dot. So i bought a $60 one, should of went with a better quality one. Its very hard to sight in and doesnt like to hold zero.

  201. Holosun is a great red dot! I bought one for my first rifle and still to this day, it has been an accurate, reliable, solid choice! What an awesome giveaway for I am in the market for another red dot. Thanks for the giveaway.

  202. Good info, next please offer up suggestions on speeding up the calibration process. Has to be a better way to zero then in. Also, best practice for rail placement for red dot sights.

  203. I have a vortex venom for my handgun and a vortex viper on my .22lr This Holosun would be pretty sweet on my newly finished AR build. Picked up the Spikes tactical Snowflake lower to get my daughter into firearms. She loves the unicorn on the lower of my AR and it could be her AR as long as Sneaky Joe Blow doesn’t get his way…

  204. Great information. I have just started looking for a new Red Dot! I think these types of sights are a must-have for any AR platform.

  205. I have been slowly moving toward red dot rifle scopes, but it seems they change up just before I pull the trigger. I have an early generation one on a target pistol that I shoot on a regular basis. I know they are great scopes, but the constant improvements, options, etc keep me looking for that one perfect red dot rifle scope!

  206. I habe neen looking at red dots for an AR build. I was considering Holosun because I saw it highly rated on another sight. Its good to see it confirmed by another source. Thanks and keep writing. I really enjoy yuor articles.

  207. I have an older EOTech for 300 blk on my pistol. I would love to win something else for a new build!

  208. Prefer red dot for close/indoor defense. Way more control that cross hair scopes. Would be honored to use your optic on any of my firearms.

  209. got that romeo 5, solid receptacle! Waiting on a holosun 510c with magnifier on back order for almost a year now.

  210. Short & sweet, but a good start for beginners (which I am). I would definitely be interested in a more in-depth analysis but realize the most important is to just “pull the trigger” and try one. I’m currently looking for my first ever RDS for my first ever AR. So I appreciate the list. Thanks

  211. That Holosun would go great on the ar-15 pistol that I want to buy if I can find one at a reasonable price.

  212. Articles are always informative and up to date on what’s going on in the shooting/home defense world. It’s why I shop Cheaper Than Dirt and subscribe to their newsletters.

  213. I have a Holosun red dot sight on my AR-15 and I love it. I certainly would love to have one for another one of my firearms.

  214. I have the sig romeo 5 on an AR. It’s a great fit for the weapon day or night and is very dependable. Hope I win the redo there for my Sks!

  215. I don’t think we gun people are taking these new purposed laws on gun laws very seriously!!its getting close to time to STOCK up. I hope I’m wrong?

  216. I’ve been a gun/ shooting enthusiast for about 5 years now. I especially enjoy shooting different calibers as I imagine different needs for different situations. Having been a mechanic I like to have universal tools for simple projects but also have a need for specialty tools for specific things.
That being said, I love these reviews and articles from CTD. They’ve been very useful in learning how to upgrade and fine tune my projects and figuring out where I’ve gotten off track. I like how this review has shown a light on some of the optics where one maybe better than the other in a different situation. I’ve destroyed a cheap scope or two with larger caliber rifles.
Currently I have a $45 red dot style on my AR-15 that would probably be better suited for a 22.
So obviously I would love to be chosen for a higher grade optics for my AR.
    Thanks

  217. Get em while they’re hot…soon these will be deemed evil features by our overlords as they make weapons of mass destruction even deadlier. All jokes aside, or not, I think the Sigs are pretty good for the price but the Holosun is the best bang for the buck. I’m curious if 3D printed optics are possible and would be the future.

  218. The Holosun Red Dot is excellent. No adjustment needed to cowitness with the front sight. I need another one for my AR. Thanks.

  219. No Self Defense rifle is complete without a Reddit sight. Thanks for the chance to enter for a free one.

  220. A RedDot with solar charging is a wonderful idea. I’m looking for a sight for a new build and this just may be the one.

  221. Same as others I also have the Romeo 5 great little sight. I keep looking at the Holosun with the solar charger it’s probably a good option and really not much more expensive than the Sig if you look around. Thanks again for some great info.

  222. Love EO-tech. Have one on my night hunter with magnifier. Just came back from Texas hog hunting with three very nice hogs,

  223. Only fair way to evaluate these sights is to use them on the 4 new pistols your wife let you buy. The final preference will be personal opinion.

  224. I have an older EOtec and an older Aimpoint. This article was very informative to me, as I had no read up on the ‘red dots’ in a while. Well-presented.

  225. I bought a cheap red dot site by Feyachi. It works ok but I should have bought a better site and spent the money more wisely.

  226. Great article. Sure, I know that comparing (reputable) sights and optics is another Ford or Chevy debate, but I’ve also heard good things about Vortex products. How does Vortex stack up to the seven red dot sights featured here?

Either way, a free sight is still a free sight! 😉

  227. Love reddots, crazy how far their technology has come in the past decade. Sign me up for the giveaway please!

  228. I have the eotech and the sig and just ordered a mro yesterday. They are all good sights, cant go wrong with any of them!

  229. I have the eotech and the sig and just ordered a mro yesterday. They are all good sights, cant go wrong with any of them.

  230. That would pair together nice with a standard small frame build nothing to fancy but just enough to get the job done. Haven’t tried Holosun but have been looking to update my old TruGlo red dot.

  231. The article was great, however I personally have trust issues. So if you could pick me and send me the red dot, just so I can confirm that it is worthy of the #1 pick it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for understanding!

  232. Was just poking around looking for my first red dot. Great reviews and certainly appreciate the chance to win one!

  233. I have the Crimson Trace CTS-103 mounted on my AR15 and always seems out of focus so your article gave me insight into other manufactures, thanks

  234. Would be great to pair this up with my Holosun 3x magnifier instead of the Romeo 5 I have currently have on the Bushy.

  235. I used to think red dot sites were gimmicky. Then I shot my fiend’s AR and I hit every thing I was aiming at exactly where the dot rested with amazing quick acquisition of the target. Sign me up.

  236. Great info! I’ve been looking at holosun’s for a while now, they seem like the best bang for your buck option. I’d love to win one.

  237. Love the Holosun HS503CU. Perfect for my Glock. I am needing a red dot for my Sig Sauer 320 (preferably a Sig Sauer).

  238. I enjoyed seeing this red dot lineup but would like to have seen some comparisons against the military and law enforcement approved red dots such as the Meprolight RDS Tru-Dot 1.8. Thanks for the review.

  239. Nice offers! I really like the EOTech XPS3-0. It would look nice on my ar that I’m building!!!

  240. I have the Romeo5. It’s a really nice optic for the price. I recommend it to friends often and so far they’ve all really enjoyed it as well.

  241. Have been looking at trijion optics for my AR.. currently have eotech. after reading this, going to look into Holosun

  242. Seems like the Romeo 5 is popular in the comments. Something to consider since I’m on the market for a red dot.

  243. Great info and some picks on red dots. They are so reliable and accurate. I would love to get a holosun, but the one I wanted was out of my price range.

  244. I have been interested in these sights for some time. I have questioned if you can still ho;ster the weapon with a standard holster; or, is a special holster required when including these sights? Either way, winning one to try out would be awesome. Thanks for the opportunity!

  245. Not to hard really to pick one of these red dots, the difficulty is
when you want to purchase moderately priced sights. also these are all tube type.

  246. I have had not had experience with any but trijicon from being in the military but would like to try a few others on a recent build I completed.

  247. I tried and tried to think of someone who would be a more deserving winner than me, but I just couldn’t. With all modesty, I thank you in advance if I win.

  248. Nice sights, battery life is important here. No one wants to take their gun out after being stored for a while and only to find out that the battery is dead. The solar power electronics are only as good as the battery’s life but, it gives you the option of charging your battery, that’s a big plus.

  249. Thanks for the info. I’m looking for a red dot for my Ruger PC9. If I don’t win one at least I have some guidance on the better models!

  250. I built my first AR-15 rifle recently and went with a different red dot and magnifier combo. However, I’ve been seriously considering the Romeo 5 for a pistol build in the near future.

  251. I’ve been thinking about getting a red dot for my XDm .40 cal. Was leaning toward the Sig, because I’m already using the Romeo 3 / flip-over magnifier combo with my DPMS 5.56 & love it! These old eyes definitely need the help!

  252. I have a new AR pistol, and the iron signs are very difficult for me to see and get a good sight picture, with my old eyes. I never considered red dots before, but I think it is the only way I’ll feel secure using this pistol in self defense.

  253. I am a fan of the Sig Romeo-5. Light, compact, and reasonably priced! Easy co-witness with flip-up sights. CQB out to medium range compatable.

  254. GREAT ARTICLE! I just so happened to be in the market for a red dot sight for my AR and this article has definitely made things clear. I think I’m just going to purchase because I can’t wait for you guys to declare me the winner. 😉

  255. I love the Sig Sauer Bravo 5 for my 300 blackout. The Aimpoint PRO is a great optic for my duty rifle. Havent tried the Holosun but the pistol x3 is great on my H&K VP9.

  256. I am 71 years old and getting cataracts. I am looking for a red dot sight and this article will help me make an informed decision. Thank you.

  257. I love Cheaper than Dirt! The red dot would be an added bonus to my first AR15 for this old ladies rifle. Good luck to all and God bless you, this country and everyon man and women who sacrifice so much for all our rights so that we can Bear arms without being infringed. U.S.A!!!

  258. Nice to see the reviews and comments. As one who can’t go out and buy all the various options, just to try them out, it is a great way to narrow the range of options down.

  259. I noticed all of the red dots listed are not cheap. I was wondering what would be a good possibly great red dot for the money.

  260. I have aimbpiont pro and love it. I could always use another for free. Good article, great information.

  261. I Have been looking for a red dot for my AR 15. I haven’t decided yet which one I really like best because they are all described as great functional red dots. I would be happy winning any one of them. Thank you for the education and the opportunity to learn more with all your posts.

  262. Informative article on selecting a good red dot sight, am curious about the back up solar panels if they recharge in ambient light also.

  263. Ever since I bought the sig romeo 5 I have loved their products and I have bought all my optics from sig.

  264. I don’t need a reason to start another build, but if I get a free optic, I’ll need something to put it on.

  265. I’m still in the fence about red dots. Should the whole world of guns become dependent on them? Are iron sights a thing of The past? What constitutes a good shooter?

  266. I just bought a red dot for my tactical shotgun last night and I am looking at getting another optic for an AR-style pistol. I am leaning towards a holographic sight since they have a much more forgiving sight picture than a red dot when your cheek weld varies in a close-in tactical situation.

  267. Have a bare bones AR-15 on backorder right now. Having a quality sight to install right away would be a great thing!

  268. I recently purchased the Romeo 5 for my AR because it was on sale. I personally love the sight, think it’s amazing for the $.

  269. I put an EO Tech XPS2 with 3x flip over magnifier on my Colt M4 and have yet to regret it. Battery eater? Sure enough. But I use rechargables and always put a full charge battery in before heading out plus when done, I put a fully charged battery in and the that came out gets charged up. Easy-peasy.

My grandson has an M&P ar15-22 with an inexpensive Burris red dot that works great. Since getting this setup for him 3 years ago when he was 7, he has yet to have a bad day at the range. When the red dot comes off, he is still shooting a very acceptable set of close grouped near center mass. With the red dot, he is within 1 inch and right on target.

That’s as opposed to when he started with just the MagPul BUIS. He just didn’t get how to aim, even when the range master gave him a lesson. Using the iron sight allowed him the confidence to go without. About 4 magazines (40 rounds) later he was getting it.

Today, as described, he is a decent shoot and enjoys range time more than ever.

  270. Swamp Fox optics has been my go to in the last year. Will certainly look into the Holsun and Trijicon.

  271. My EOTech is Great, but I’m SHOOTING for a chance to try the Holosun HS503CU!!!
Can’t beat Cheaper Than Dirt…Great Articles, Great Products and Great Deals!!

  272. Thanks for suggestions, I’m picking up my first AR15 this weekend and looking forward to adding a red dot sight to it.

  273. Great lineup. I have a hard time seeing red very well in certain light. I like the option of both green and red optic when I can find it

  274. I am near 80 years old and have been shooting for 65 years. I have one of the HOLOSUN Red Dots on one of my guns and It is a Godsend for an old man whose eyesight is slowly fading. I would highly recommend this sight to anybody. My boys even commented that they had not seen me shoot that accurately in a good while when I tried the sight.
It is well made and well worth the price Do yourself a favor and try one, you won’t be disappointed.
    Tom C

  275. I’ve been trying to educate myself on red dot sights and this was helpful. A free one would be real nice 😜 Thanks!

  276. My buddy has the hs503. I shot his AR with it and I can definitely tell you that it’s a great optic.

  277. Interesting article as I have yet to purchase a red dot for my AR. This should help narrow my decision

  278. Nice article. Lots of good info on the different red-dot scopes available with enough info to help make an informed decision on purchasing one. Thanks

  279. I can’t argue with the #1 pick. Holosun has outclassed more expensive units. Their Shake Awake action plus the battery life at a reasonable price point makes them the leader in the industry to me.

  280. I only recently discovered the benifit of a red dot sight on a pistol. It gave me a remarkable improvement in accuracy. Now I want one on all of my handguns.

  281. Have been market for purchase of red dot for a couple of months
will definitely look at these recommendations plus night vision is a addition that I may look at.

  282. All of these optics will do the job… some maybe better than others. The Holosun is interesting due to the solar charging.. good list to pick from

  283. Great article with plenty of non-bias information! Thank you for gathering and presenting this information!

  284. Thank you for keeping us updated. I don’t have a red dot but would like to win. Have a great day.

  285. Love the list. The comment about paying attention to battery life with these red dots is spot on. Makes me curious about the solar-charged one.

  286. Excellent run down on red dots optics. I love the idea of a solar powered unit with battery backup. My go-to watch, a Citizen Ecodrive, operates the same way very reliably.

  287. I’m a first time rifle owner this post was very Informative on all the different sights . Thank you so much

  288. Great article, & timely as well was looking for a new sight for a recent gun purchase… So with that please pick me!!!

  289. I just got the romeo5
Looking forward to trying it out
But the question i keep coming back to is does price of a red dot= quality?

  290. I’d love to have any of these for my new .300blk pistol. Great info on fantastic optics. I tend to lean towards Trijicon, but can’t go wrong with a free Holosun!

  291. I’ve got several AImpoint PROs. They’ve always worked great. They are not as small or light as some of the others but they are durable. The price isn’t bad either

  292. Red Dots have become my go to for these old eyes and I love the solar benefit of the Holosun. Good wrote up.

  293. I’ve purchased cheeper red dots. Som ed with well som ed not so well. I’d l I’ll ke to try a higher quality unit and see if it performs better.

  294. I have a Sig MSR red dot. Nice basic, rugged sight for the price point. This was a great review of other red dots and their features.

  295. Personally, I think EOTECH is the way to go. I’m able to see the reticle even when my glasses get fogged up. Sure, they can be expensive but the quality is worth every penny.

Sign me up for the giveaway please

  296. I’ve had the Vortex Sparc AR for a few years. It is still holding up fine. I like the auto-off, I do wish it had “shake awake.”

I really like the AAA battery. Get them everywhere!!! I turned mine daily for sixty days. I let it run for twelve hours a day, that’s the auto off time. I did not notice any impairment of performance.

  297. I bough a Sig MSR and a buddy bought a Sig Romeo 5 for comparison. Both are excellent optics. The MSR feels more rugged to me and is easier to operate with gloves due to it’s dial brightness adjustment vs the Romeo’s push button brightness adjustment. However, the Romeo’s motion activation feature is outstanding, and after playing with both optics, the motion activation is useful enough to give the Romeo an edge over the MSR in my opinion.

  298. I have the aimpoint pro and a vortex.. love them both! But if i jad to choose it would be the aimpoint. Thanks for the winning opportunity and keep them coming!

  299. Loved the article and explanation of each on the list. Winning one would definitely be a bonus.

  300. Finishing building out my first gun from an 80% lower (ar-15 5.56) and I realized yesterday that I didn’t order any sights of any sort! It would be great to win this! I never win ANY giveaways though, so I guess I’ll buy one!

  301. I have the Sig Romeo 5. It’s very nice, easy setup, compact and works well with many magnifiers! Would love to try the Holosun. I intend on building a few different caliber uppers and will want some additional red dots. Thanks for the info and offer.

  302. I have been considering one of these.

just got my first side arm in 30+ years and definitely need one of these.

Looking forward to my delivery of my order from you guys!

  303. I can’t pull the trigger on which red dot to get… This would make a great addition to my collection though and you guys are making my decision easy.

  304. I have the HS403C on a little AR-22 I built for my kids and we love it! Use it every time we go the the Silhouette range. I’m building an AR-9mm that would look great with a new HS503CU. Hook me up!

  305. I was looking at the Romeo 5 but will now check out the others. Have a Holosun ACSS Vulcan on my 9mm and it’s great

  306. Excellent article. Appreciate the comparison and opinion. I’ve always been a Trijicon guy myself, would love to give the Holosun a try. Thanks for the opportunity.

  307. I have an older Aimpoint that has done well for me.to this point. The Holosun being solar powered has my interest.

  308. Nice post. I was planning on the Romeo-5 but now I’m thinking maybe the Holosun. Really like the solar feature.

  309. I have the Sig Romeo MSR. For me it is a good bang for buck at $100. It also shuts off when not used and instantly comes on when picked up.

  310. I would love to win this simply sight for an AR15 I just purchased. Since my birthday is the 21st this would be a great birthday gift!

  311. Red dots and reflex sights are fantastic, especially for older eyes. I have a Holosun reflex sight on my Taurus Raging Hunter, and I love it.
    Bill P.

  312. Holosun sure looks interesting. It’d be nice to have one that you don’t have to worry about the battery running out while storing it.

  313. A very comprehensive and detailed list for easy information for us to use when selecting the best Red Dot sight to purchase.

  314. I mounted a Holosun circle dot with shake awake on my current truck rifle. After a year of much less than gentle treatment it still works with the original battery and is still holding zero. Love the circle dot reticle. It is great for aging eyes.

  315. Holosun is Definitely a top pic in my books. I have one on a special built Ar 15 and it is dead on at 100 yards.

  316. The heading for this article is best red dots for AR pistols. With that in mind. I think the Eotech (my favorite sights) might be a little heavier than one might like. I’ve never had The Sig Romeo 5 mainly because I’m drawn more to a circle dot reticle rather then a single dot. I have owned several Romeo 4 sights but I always seem to end up with a Eotech or a Holosun with the ACSS Reticle. Good luck to all. God bless.

  317. A very comprehensive and detailed list put together for easy information to use when selecting the best Red Dot to fit your needs.

  318. I am working on my first Pistol Caliber Carbine pistol build now. I am using componets from Aero Precision. I have already purchased the lower and upper. Next on the list is the barrel and buffer tube. My buddy who already has a finished pistol, asked if I had been thinking about optics for my build. This article was perfect timing for me, thanks! I hope you pick me for winning this optic!

  319. I love my Sig Romeo 5. Compact enough yet no trouble with target acquisition. Battery life seems to be exceptional. This is an excellent article! There are so many choices out there it’s nice to have a source that helps narrow those choices to a manageable level where you can quickly and easily make a selection.

  320. It was great to find out that my research was accurate, after seeing the results of your own research. Plus it would be nice to have a chance to win another.

  321. Interesting post. I wonder how consistent it is year over year. There have not been many advancements in this technology so how often should this be updated?

  322. Informative post. Now to make the tough decision on which to choose for my specific needs and build. Thanks.

  323. Nice article. I’m new to these type of sights and this info really helps me as I’m getting ready to purchase a sight. Thank you.

  324. Glad to read the info and look forward to further updates and info on new products and innovations!

  325. I’ve been looking for a nice red dot for my AK-47. Nice to know there are some high quality ones available even on a budget. Thanks

  326. I use a Vortex site for my AR. It was cheap, but really has stood up to the tests. I’d like to run a Holosun as well since a lot of buddies have it.

  327. I’m running an earlier model Holosun on my AR and I absolutely love it. Holosun has the best value in the market today.

  328. This is a great list for those that Don have a lot of time to do research. Takes the guesswork right out of the picture. Great job.

  329. I have a Holosun RDS for me 1911. Have to admit that the solar panel is more convenient than carrying extra batteries. But…people-shaped snakes seldom try to break into your home in the daylight. Lots of range time and carry help with that. Plus, the “Shake Awake” is probably the best thing since sliced bread, canned beer and a buffet bacon bar.

  330. If this was best quality to price ratio, then yes to Holosun, otherwise, no way it beats the Trijicon and EOtech! I have a Holosun without the solar backup and it eats batteries big time, would be nice to get the solar and save on batteries! …nice review regardless

  331. Red dots can’t be beat for quick target acquisition. But I would never be without BUIS for when a malfunction or dead battery leaves you blind!

  332. I have tried several RED DOTS and have always had problems and that is what you get when you spend 30 dollars on one. This gives me a chance to win a nice RED DOT ill give it it a try..

  333. Red dots are probably one of the best inventions ever created for any firearm platform. I’m actually looking into buying a new one. Trying to narrow it down is the hardest part. Especially battering it down to just one.

  334. Great company have order few item amd will surely come back for more…and now this a free give away come on now how can you not love these guys .

  335. My favorite is a Vortex red dot. I have also used the Sig and TrueGlo with great results. Also like my green dots too, dont want to discriminate against color here. Day and night use the differences are all a matter of personal preference. I train for both and like both uses. What keeps my taste for the Vortex is it stays zeroed in and the Battery life is long.

  336. As an elder shooter, I find AR pistols an advancement in facilitating my diminishing physiology and allowing me to defend as I might be called. My favorite red dot is old school Aimpoint M2. But a new red dot can only mean one thing…
A new AR! Yay! The wife’ll love that!

  337. Firearm is used infrequently so long Battery life is an important feature. Don’t want to change batteries or hook up a charger before each use,

  338. I have a Sig Romeo as well and it has been a good one. But I also have a cheaper Bushnell that I like just a little better actually!

  339. I have the aim point pro. Even with the front cover closed your eyes compensate and you see it clearly on the target. I love this thing.

  340. Definitely some great choices. Just added a Velocity straight trigger and a VZ Operator 2 Gen 2 for my AR15

  341. I am a fan of EOTech 65 MOA circle with 1 MOA dot holographic sight, currently mounted on my 300 blk pistol.

  342. I love the holosun red dots I have 2 now looking to buy a third for the new ar-pistol build. Selling points was the solar-power, warranty, and red/green dots options.

  343. There are a lot of other terrific red dots out there that don’t cost nearly what this list costs. Immediately the tiny Truglo comes to mind.

  344. I’m a longtime friend of CTD and have purchased some great products. I currently have the Romeo 5 and paired it with the Juliet (of course, right?) for co-witnessing for my AR pistol. I’m pretty satisfied, but shopping for others as I need optics for my other babies.

  345. Thanks for the info, great list. I’m still working on my budget build, trying to get everything wrapped up before you can no longer get attachments. This is an amazing giveaway. Fingers crossed.

  346. Nice overview of some popular choices. And thanks for running a contest on top of it. Good luck everyone.

  347. Have the EO Tech 512 and the Holosun 503. For my aging 75 year old eyes, the circle dot reticle works best. I loved the circle dot reticle that EO Tech originally came out and with the Holosun 503, it’s great, it’s a winner!

  348. This is a great article about the red dot sights. I like the small profile of the EOTech XPS3-0.

  349. Been using red dots on my 44 for hunting. Love them get on target faster. Would love to try one of the ones above.

  350. Having a red dot makes more since than ever as it is harder to spend a lot of time on the range. Every shot needs to be accurate even without a lot of recent practice.

  351. Looks like there are plenty of options for a great red dot, now it’s just trying to pick the right one for the new build.

  352. Surprised to not see Vortex on the list anywhere. The names listed are all very well known and reputable. I too have a older EOTech and that thing gobbles up AA batteries like a drunk does box wine. Have considered Holosun and Sig before, but I tend to fall back to Vortex. That warranty is hard to not be swain by. Never had to use it, but the peace of mind is just that.

  353. This is a valuable article. For those looking for a great optic to put on their weapon. It can be challenging to find the right one and this information provides a great bit of research to find the right one.

  354. Good timing I’m looking to upgrade my red dot on my AR. Wish cost was discussed or links to where to buy but still good info. Pick me and I won’t have to worry about either!

  355. I love holosun! Great optic, so nice to not have to spend the money on an eotech to get great stuff

  356. I’m building a pistol/SBR in 300 blackout
I haven’t gotten a sight for it yet so this would be a awsome win for this ole disabled first responder

  357. Just purchased my first AR and I’ve never had a red dot or have I ever seen one in person. Would love to install on my AR.

  358. Surprisingly wide range in pricing. Would like to see a star rating for each optic. Thanks for the review

  359. Definitely some solid picks no doubt, but would have liked to see the associated cost for each red dot as that plays a huge role in choosing the “right” optic.

A little surprised to not see any Vortex or Burris on the list as well.

  360. Nice article and you really can’t turn your nose up to any of those choices. Plus a chance to win that cool sight, can’t go wrong. Thanks for the opportunity.

  361. I have killed many deer with my RedDot sight on my shotgun. 2 MN record book trophy deer weighing over 250 lbs.

  362. I’ve always been a fan of the tried and true iron sights. But honestly, my aging eyes are ready to get into the red dot market.

  363. I have been contemplating buying a red dot for a while, but haven’t been able to justify spending the money. I would love a chance to win one!

  364. Heard good things about the eotech and the Romeo 5 don’t know much about the others. I like the giveaway idea good job

  365. Great article. Would love to try one out. These article help alot in making decisions on items i have never used

  366. This article pretty much coincides with several other comparative articles I’ve seen. There isn’t much of a pro/con over one another listed though. Still it gives a starting point for those looking.

  367. I have the Romeo 5 and love it. Sight acquisition is easy and stays zero. But all the ones reviewed are great

  368. The Holosun looks like a nice little red dot. It looks like a very convenient red dot. During the day the solar will save on battery life. Great concept saves money on batteries. Great if you plan on being on hunt all day.

  369. I’ve been considering a new red dot optical. Thanks for the information and shopping list … and a chance to win!

  370. I like the Sig Romeo. Can’t argue about quality with any of these models though. All great choices, but kind of hard to justify one that costs more than my rifle.

  371. There are a number of decent optics on the market that won’t break the bank. M any have long battery life and auto wake up. The decision to choose one becomes more and more daunting. Thank goodness for people reviewing them. I don’t think you could go wrong now days as it seems to be a very competitive market.

  372. I read a review where a Holosun red dot was used in conjunction with the Holosun 3X flipover magnifying sight… it looked like a smart and economical option.

  373. I have the Sig and got it on sale thinking I wasnt out much if it was crap..well, its far from it. It is a nice little unit and at 1/5th the “professional” models, it functions great. It stays true and where you put the dot, the bullet follows.

  374. While I’m familiar with Aim Point and EO Tech sights over my career. The Romeo 5 is my go to sight. I’m willing to give the Holosun sight a try either way. Solar charge with battery backup. Can’t beat that.

  375. Have several handguns with open sights. Have been considering putting a reddot on one or more. This article is helpful in choosing the reddot appropriate for a handgun.

  376. Interesting read. I has a pistol with a red dot, but it just seemed awkward to use. Still have one on my deer hunting shotgun and sporting rifle.

  377. I used to make polite fun of the guys who ran red dots on their stuff. Then middle age hit… I understand so much more now, the younger guys are poking fun at me. I just grin. I know they’ll see the light eventually.

  378. Great information and a great look at several nice red dots! Thanks for sharing, and for the chance to win!

  379. I really the circle-dot concept like the Holosun and EOTech. The big circle if very fast for close targets, while the dot allows for accurate shot placement.

  380. Red Dot is most definitely the way to go on sbr’s.. holosun makes a remarkable and innovative product.. would make a great addition to any rifle in anybody’s arsenal.. i don’t personally own one simply cause there a bit pricey and my family’s roof an food comes first but i have used similar scopes on friends an family’s various setups.. amazing product

  381. Used a first generation EOTech for 15 years before retiring. Made all the difference in the world so I’m sure the majority of these newer ones are top notch. So, rolling the dice, I never win these things…

  382. Thank you for the list. Definitely helped me a lot since I just bought a new AR pistol. Been looking for just the right red dot for it.

  383. With my aging eyes, I can no longer see the iron sights and the target at the same time. (With or without my glasses.) Red dots have eliminated this problem. With or without my glasses, red dots have become a lifesaver.

  384. All of these are good choices. Currently looking for a good optic for my pistol. Thanks for all the gear over the past 8 years. Never let me down once.

  385. I like the Holosun HS503SU for the long battery life.It uses a CR 2032 battery with a solar panel on top to extend the battery life.It has up to a year of battery life .It has 10 daytime settings and 2 night settings.Well built and great value for the money.

  386. The author forgot the Honorable Mentioned #3 Sightmark SM26034 Ultra Shot combined with a Sightmark 7X Tactical Magnifier Pro. This reddot has night vision capability too. What a awesome system….

  387. I’m getting older and still love to shoot and i believe my eyes are at the point of needing a good magnifier and be able to still shoot with my grand kids.

  388. Any of these have tritium like an acog so your not fumbling knobs half asleep when something goes bump in the night?

  389. Great article I am considering an ARPistol conversion and after reading the article feel that the EOTech SPS3-0 would be my choice. Thanks for all of your very informative articled

  390. I don’t have a red dot. I have a 1×6 power vortex strike eagle that I love but have found that in some instances a red dot would be a better choice. Any of the above would be sweet to have so saving my money for the best. I’ve looked at the vortex venom and it’s pretty sweet too. Thanks for this opportunity.

  391. I put a scope on a 44 magnum. I wish I had gone a different route. Hard to acquire a sight picture with a handgun.

  392. Trijicon HD sights are a must for aging eyes! That big fat orange pumpkin sitting out at the end of the barrel SIGNIFICANTLY improves scores, due solely to being able to actually SEE the front post!
A Red Dot exponentially multiplies that by a factor of ONE HUNDRED!!
Being able to see THROUGH the sights puts all focus on the target, where it belongs!

  393. Good info! I just recently built my first AR pistol and have been looking at optics, but haven’t made up my mind yet. Hopefully I’ll win this instead of paying 🙂

  394. Great article and while I like all the ones you reviewed. I agree Holosun is at the top. Thanks for allowing us to enter to win.

  395. I myself like the Eotech HWS… Or halographic laser etched sights period. The head doesn’t have to be aligned with the dot in quick reaction operations. But I use normal red dots also on things I do straight shooting with/on.

  396. Nice write up, Thanks ! All of them are worthy red dots but I’ve been eyeing that EOTech for a while and the holosun would be perfect for my 5.56 pistol….which I lost in a boating accident 🙁 I hope I’m picked 😀

  397. The Holosun HS503CU would look wicked good on my MPA 30. I also appreciate the circle reticle pattern as this would help acquire a faster sight picture. It also uses a simple, easy to find battery and has an amazing battery life to boot.

  398. Use of a red dot has become very popular for hunting. Can’t wait to get a quality one to use. Thanks for the review it helps with the choosing.

  399. Hello, I’m Justin. I am active Air Force and an avid marksman. I have a wide variety of firearms and enjoy the outdoors. I have 5 tours overseas. I love deriving my country and protecting and exercising our rights, liberties and the American way of life. Please consider me for the give away! Thank you your your time

  400. I’ve recently become a fan of the sig optics. Thanks for the review and giveaway! Always recommend cheaper than dirt to everyone!

  401. Would love to win.. i need a good red dot. I think that prices on some red dots are crazy high. U would think that price would drop the more available they are but thats my thinking.

  402. Great list of reads, hope to win, the 2 Moa and 65 Moa do work well together. It is found on a few other platforms.

  403. Nice article, what about crimson red dots? I’m also looking for a nice one for my hi- point .45 acp carbine, just not sure which will be best.

  404. I’ve heard Holosun makes great red dots. I’d love to find out for myself. If I win I guarantee I’ll get a video of it in action over to cheaper than dirt to upload for a review.

  405. I have a romeo 5 red dot and it’s an awesome little sight. Though I’m always looking for red dots to put on different guns. This a a great wirte up in helping to decide between the different models. Thanks

  406. I built a 300blk pistol as my first AR build. It was a budget build that I bought the parts for as I found them on sale. I’ve made a few upgrades over the years like a better brace and magpul backup sights. I have so far stuck with the Sightmark Ultrashot for the red dot sight. It has a choice of red or green dot, which I keep on red but can quickly change to green if I step outside in the sun.

The setup served me well when my dog woke me up about a year ago with an “I’m serious” growl while looking at the window. She was 8 years old and that was the first time she had ever done that so, I reacted accordingly. Luckily, whatever had caused her to growl had left before I got outside.

  407. I’m quite surprised that the majority of the choices were full tube optics rather than holo sites. Seems like getting a fast alignment with a tube would be much harder with a pistol.

One thing that anyone looking for sights should consider is the battery. I have an old EOTech which, while a great sight uses a battery that is nearly impossible to find. Further, it sucks it down very rapidly so not having a back up, or two, can lean to a ruined range day…if you’re lucky. Always confirm what batteries are used and that they are commonly available.

  408. I enjoy my sig Romeo 5, it has never let me down and stays in zero. Plus it has auto shut off when not in use and auto on when it gets handled. Also the claimed 40,000 hour battery life isn’t bad either
