Kicking the Old School, Blackpowder Style

Take a look at some of the black powder rifles on the market—the Traditions Kentucky rifle kit, Wolf Buckhorn and Tracker 209.

Buckhorn 209 Magnum

The Buckhorn 209 Magnum is an ultra-modern conventional in-line. The heart of this high-tech firearm is the precision rifled 24-inch barrel which has a 1:28-inch twist. Powered by an extremely hot 209-ignition system, this gun will handle 150-grain magnum charges with ease. If you are in a state where it is illegal to use a 209 primer, you can easily convert the Buckhorn to a number 11 or musket cap ignition by changing the breech plug and adding the correct nipple. In addition, the Buckhorn comes standard with a thumb-actuated safety, Durasight all metal fiber optic sights, dual-barrel retention points and a bullet guiding muzzle. Another feature that really sets this gun apart from the competition is its radical new stock design. The Buckhorn’s unique stock features dotgrip panels to ensure a comfortable, non-slip grip. Not bad for a rifle that retails for less than two hundred bucks!

Tracker Inline Muzzleloader

Another take on the modern rifle design is the Tracker Inline Muzzleloader. You don’t have to spend a fortune to get great performance out of a muzzle loader. The Tracker 209 provides you with the features of a higher end model at a modest price. The manufacturer installed a one-piece 209-breech plug for a reliable, super hot ignition. The breech has a powerful spring loaded bolt that provides a fast lock time to ignite the 209-shotgun primer with up to 150 grains of powder. The knurled end cap removes easily for quick “end of the day” cleaning. A performance barrel is drilled and tapped for scope mounting, and has a 1:28-inch rifling twist, giving you superb accuracy at longer distances. Traditions mated the barrel to a well-balanced, rugged synthetic stock that will stand up to all hunting conditions. The Lite Optic adjustable sights allow for optimum sighting in low light conditions. This is a no frills firearm that gives you excellent value in the muzzle loading world.

CVA Wolf 209

The newly redesigned WOLF has all the features that made the original WOLF the number one selling muzzleloader in the world, with many new features added. Still lightweight and easy to maneuver, the new WOLF even comes in a compact version that is just the right length for the youth or small-framed adult, and even for the shooter who just wants a quick-handling gun for brush hunting. The 100 percent ambidextrous stocks are available in either black or Realtree Hardwoods Green camo. The WOLF also features CVA’s new QRBP (Quick-Release Breech Plug). This is the only truly tool-free removal breech plug on the market today. Even after 20 or more shots, the QRBP comes out with just a twist of the fingers; try that with any other speed breech system. In addition, the break-action breech opens easily with just a touch of the breeching button, which is located in the front of the trigger guard. The WOLF’s compact and quick-pointing barrel is made of blued steel and is set up with a DuraSight DEAD-ON one-piece scope mount. The WOLF, it’s a lot of gun, but not a lot of money.
