Smith and Wesson’s Victory .22 has garnered a lot of interest since its introduction a few months ago. The Victory .22 is intended to compete with similar .22 calibers handguns such as the Browning Buckmark and Ruger Standard Model. As such the Victory will have to have good features, good reliability, and acceptable accuracy. The price point is also important. Smith and Wesson’s previous .22 caliber self loaders were not in the class with this pistol and the hopes Smith and Wesson has pinned on this pistol are not without justification.
When it comes to a self-defense pistol, size matters. Compact pistols are easier to conceal and generally lighter. Some are willing to trust their lives to smaller caliber and others believe in bigger calibers to put a threat down. Ruger has answered the call with the introduction of the Ruger American Compact in .45 ACP.
Today, much of the market seems to revolve around tactical gear and personal defense. That is important, nothing is more vital than taking responsibility for our own safety. However, personal defense isn’t the only reason to own a powerful and accurate handgun such as the Ruger Blackhawk. This single-action revolver is also a fine target gun and a great game getter.
At first look many would think Upland bird hunting season has passed. While that is true for pheasant, quail, chukar and others, let’s not forget about turkey! After all, who says you have to have a designated thumper just for turkey. Even if you do, it’s never too early to start thinking about next season, or just to break in your new gun while your dog gets a tune up. Here are six shotguns everyone can be proud while enjoying a little wing and shot time.
February 23 is .223 day! Who doesn’t love a day honoring one of America’s favorite calibers most often fired from the AR-15—one of America’s favorite rifles? In truth, we do not have to wait for 2/23, we can celebrate it any day of the year by emptying a few magazines by sending rounds down range. However, in honor of .223 day we first want to thank our men and women in uniform serving our country, veterans, first responders, and law enforcement officers who run toward danger when we get run from it. With that done, we hope you will enjoy a little down time with a few of our favorite .223-themed posts from the past.
The PPS was a gun ahead of its time delivering a feature rich, accurate, and configurable, ready-to-carry single stack that could behave like a compact, mid- and full- sized gun. Based on two years of carrying and shooting the PPS, it is my perception that it is one of the best subcompact concealed carry single-stack guns on the market despite the introduction of many other competitor firearms.
I don’t like it when people tell me what to do or what I should buy either, so I created a list of the top 12 smallest, best concealable semiautomatic handguns based on reader’s choice, rather than editor’s choice. Did your favorite make the list?
Actually, owning two Desert Eagles, I would argue the Glock 10mm is “the” most reliable high power semi-auto pistol and the G29 is the smallest format available. The 10mm G29 is capable of delivering 600-800 ft./lbs. of energy depending on the ammo you feed it. Not bad considering you have 10+1 rounds on tap—it’s a lot of firepower in a very small concealable package. Best of all, shooters with medium to small hands can establish a comfortable and secure grip. Read the full review to learn the history of the 10mm and how the G29 performs.
With the great and growing abundance of concealed carry permits as Americans exercise their rights and commons sense, and a present political climate that nurtures such progress, armed citizens are flexing their political muscles and choosing to be responsible for their own safety. While the revolver is seen as old technology to some, there are few handguns as reliable and accurate as the short barrel .357 Magnum revolver.
