Best Upgrades for the CZ 75

There have been quite a number of new gun owners coming into the fraternity of shooters lately.

Many of them are confused when it comes to handgun selection, but others are not. It is encouraging to see many of them purchasing quality steel.

The CZ 75 9mm, as an example, has flown off the shelves and is difficult to find. You can find one if you are patient.

Then there are shooters who already own a CZ 75 and would like to upgrade the pistol’s performance.

While the GLOCK and 1911 are easily upgraded, the CZ may be as well.

The CZ 75 hasn’t received the same attention as other handguns in aftermarket parts, but what is available is very good.

As issued, the Czech 9mm is among the finest double-action first-shot pistols of all time.

Rugged, reliable and accurate, the CZ 75 pistol represents one of the best buys in the firearms world.

CZ 75 Aftermarket Parts

The pistol is carried fully loaded and ready to fire by a long pull of the double-action first-shot trigger.

After firing, the slide cocks the hammer for subsequent single-action shots.

Some variants feature a manual safety, while some are decocker-only versions.

The trigger is smooth, but a competent gunsmith and quality aftermarket parts selection may add considerably to the pistol’s smoothness.

Cajun Gun Works and Guncrafter Industries are the leaders in CZ upgrades.

The aftermarket trigger set from Cajun Gun Works comes highly recommended.

Aftermarket springs and especially the fast lock-time hammer are well suited to accuracy improvement.

These pistols are great for home defense, personal defense and concealed carry as issued.

After a bit of judicious improvement, they are rule beaters and will run neck and neck with single-action pistols.

Factory Upgrades

Upgrading to a modern high-end CZ 75 9mm straight from the factory is another option.

CZ offers a number of improved variants, including pistols with modern frame rails, night sights and polymer frames.

Perhaps the finest example of an upgraded CZ 75 9mm is the Guncrafter Industries Executive series.

The Guncrafter pistol frame is given a case-hardened treatment, while the internals are polished superbly smooth.

The pistol is given a clear coating over the case hardening for durability.

The barrel work is quite interesting. The barrel is cut flush with the slide and re-crowned. This is a lustrous, very effective modification.

The sights on the CZ 75 would seem to require machine work for upgrade, but this isn’t true.

These sights offer excellent high probability and greatly improve overall visibility.

A simple but worthwhile upgrade is the new MecGar design magazine with internal coating.

These are smooth-handling magazines with full-power magazine springs.

Feed reliability is excellent. The 18-round magazine is a serious tactical upgrade.

An upgrade well worth considering, is to add a set of custom grips from Guncrafter.

The factory plastic grips are quality, well-done, and seldom need replacement. They are a bit thick, however.

It is amazing how much of an improvement is had by simply replacing the grips with thinner, strong grips with a high degree of abrasion and adhesion.

This is perhaps the single most effective addition to the pistol. Among the better examples I have tested is from VZ grips.

These modern tactical grips should be carefully considered, as they make a significant change in the feel of the CZ 75 grip.

They are a significant improvement. The CZ responds well to carefully considered modifications.
