Leupold VX-R

Leupold VX-R
Leupold VX-R

Item: 2-LP111231 At a relatively low price (for Leupold, that is), hunters now have an illuminated riflescope option from Leupold. Instead of a bulky side-mounted turret, the fiber-optic illumination system is located in the top turret, giving the Leupold VX-R an innovative design that keeps the scope low-profiled and compact. Whether hunting in broad daylight or in low-light situations, the VX-R gives you a very bright aiming point. With its lower powered magnification, this VX-R is excellent for close range shooting as well as moving targets.

The Circle FireDot reticle is designed specifically for fast moving targets including dangerous game, pigs, and even turkeys. The circle with an extra bright centerpoint dot sizes specifically to help you get on target faster when speed is critical. Your eye, led naturally to the center aiming point, makes target acquisition quick, precise, and simple. When you move the rifle up to shoot, the FireDot instinctively activates. No more wasting time—no more misses!

Mossberg 500 Thunder Ranch

Mossberg 500 Thunder Ranch
Mossberg 500 Thunder Ranch

Item: 77468 With President and Director of the Thunder Ranch training facility Clint Smith’s resume, you can bet the new Mossberg 500 Thunder Ranch pump-action shotgun is the ultimate in home defense shotguns. As a Marine Corps veteran, seasoned law enforcement professional, and Director for training at H&K, I trust Clint’s opinion and judgment.

Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Mossberg, Tom Taylor says, “Thunder Ranch has earned the reputation as one of the leading firearms training facilities in the world for military, law enforcement and private citizens. With the proven performance of the Mossberg 500 as the base platform, Clint provided us the necessary criteria to develop a defensive shotgun worthy of the Thunder Ranch name.” Based on the tried and trusted Mossberg 500 action, the Thunder Ranch’s non-binding twin action bars, positive steel-to-steel lock up, and an anti-jam elevator, makes it just as accurate and reliable as any Mossberg 500. The Thunder Ranch features a shorter barrel and stock for easier maneuverability in self-defense situations. Add on the door-breeching muzzle brake, and you have a home defense powerhouse! From gunsandammo.com: “Yep, that’s a door breeching muzzlebrake. But, instead of for blowing hinges, Smith specified the feature to help with weapon retention. If a bad guy grabs your muzzle, they won’t hang on to those teeth very hard for very long.” August 21 marks the Mossberg 500’s 50th birthday. As versatile as the Mossberg 500 is, and as Mossberg continues to be innovative, such as with the Thunder Ranch model, I am sure that it will continue to be one of the world’s top selling shotguns.

The Zombie Death Dagger

ZK Death Dagger
ZK Death Dagger

Item: 76271 Even though I do not think that Ka-Bar has admitted it, but their new line of ZK knives are designed for some serious Zombie Killing. Zombie Killing – ZK. Get it? It is rumored that the series came about when some big wigs at Ka-Bar were joking about developing a knife that would work when your trusty gun was not available. Even the ZK emblem resembles the typical biohazard sign seen in plenty of zombie movies.

Even though the Death Dagger comes with black handles, people are finding that the green handles actually come in handy. It’s easier to spot and a little different from your typical knife handles. That lime green isn’t as hideous as you might think! With an 8.5-inch blade and an overall length of 13 and 7/8 inches, it puts you within sufficient slaying distance, but also safe from biting distance! The handle’s size is perfect for thrusting and stabbing, while the blade is excellent at slashing. Ka-Bar developed this series of knives for survival situations. They write in the 2011 catalog, “…ZK knives are designed to perform under the most rigorous, unexpected and apocalyptic situations. Are you prepared?”
