Cheaper Than Dirt! staffers covering the 2014 SHOT Show in Las Vegas have filed their final reports on new shotguns introduced at the show. In this edition are details about Remington’s expanded VersaMax line and two new 870 shotguns in the Tactical line. Also, Weatherby has a new SA-08 28-Gauge Deluxe, more WBY-X shotguns, and a semi-auto version of the PA-459, the SA-459 Black Reaper. Winchester’s 2014 entries include the SX3 12-gauge 3.5-inch Long Beard turkey gun and a new offering in the SXP pump shotgun line, the Field Compact.

In this edition are details about additions to the Browning High Grade program and expansion of the company’s 725 Citori lineup, and new models in CZ’s pump-action, semi-auto, and over/under lines.

SHOT Show 2014 Special Edition Day 1: New Shotguns

Cheaper Than Dirt! staffers covering the 2014 SHOT Show in Las Vegas have filed their first reports on new shotguns introduced at the show, and based on what we’re seeing, consumers will see a full spectrum of new shotguns in 2014. This year’s selection encompasses the entire smoothbore spectrum, from personal defense and serious 3-Gun competition to high-end engraved over/unders and practical field and clay-target models. And that’s not all: We’re also seeing new magnum waterfowl guns, turkey guns, and some interesting new sub-gauge field and Mounted Cowboy competition guns. In addition, a number of new camouflage patterns will now be available on proven designs from several manufacturers. In this edition are details about a new Duck Dynasty entries from Mossberg, Benelli USA’s Ethos semi-auto 12 gauge, and a Model 1883 side lock and the Model 1889 box lock from Cimarron Firearms.

Like a Hot Knife Through Butter: Rock Island M5 Smooth As Silk Pump-Action Shotgun

With one look, experienced shotgunners will probably want to ask, “Just tell me. Is it a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500 clone?” On the contrary, Rock Island Armory’s M5 pump-action shotgun is neither. The M5 is actually based on the underrated, now obsolete High Standard Manufacturing Flite-King pump-action shotguns. High Standard used to market its shotguns as the “world’s fastest firing pump-action shotguns.” They eject by gravity alone. Sounds crazy, but flip the M5 upside down, click the slide release and it does just that.

Now, a subsidiary company of Savage Arms, the company still brands shotguns and rifles under the Stevens name. Savage produces long-range and precision rifles and shotguns that are unprecedented in accuracy and capabilities for the price. Savage is still branding Stevens guns today. In 2012, the company debuted the model 320 shotgun in two different models, the Security and the Field, in seven different configurations. This 12-gauge, pump-action workhorse is inspired by the extremely reliable Winchester 1300 action.
