Smith & Wesson Adds MOE and Viking Tactics Models to the M&P Rifle Line

On January 17, 2012, Smith & Wesson® announced their newest additions to their M&P15 rifle line, the M&P15 MOE Mid and the M&P15 VTAC® II. Riding from an already highly successful partnership with Magpul®, Smith & Wesson’s new M&P15 MOE Mid now comes with a co-branded Magpul and Smith & Wesson lower that is only available at Smith & Wesson. Also new on both models is the mid-length gas system, which provides less recoil and more accurate follow-up shots. Smith & Wesson as also added their patent-pending enhanced flash hider.



The first two rifles available in this series come in Flat Dark Earth or black and have all the Magpul accessories as was previously available, such as the MVG® and MOE® grips, MOE buttstock, MOE handguard, 30-round PMAG®, and folding Magpul MBUS® rear sight. What is new is the co-branded Magpul and Smith & Wesson lower receiver with a flared magwell, finger shelf, and an enhanced trigger guard design. The rifle includes The Art of Tactical Carbine Volumes I and II DVDs.

M&P15 VTAC II Viking Tactics

Smith & Wesson, Kyle Lamb, and Viking Tactics® teamed up to design the new M&P15 VTAC II rifle. The VTAC II features VTAC and Troy Industries accessories, plus a Geissele® Super V Trigger that is light and has a quick reset. The VTAC/Troy™ 13” Extreme TRX handguard features two-inch, adjustable Picatinny rails. Like the MOE model, the VTAC II includes a 30-round PMAG. Kyle Lamb states that the Smith & Wesson Viking Tactics rifles are “… ready with all the enhancements needed right out of the box.” The stock is a VLTOR™ IMod, six-position collapsible stock. The rifle includes a VTAC wide, padded sling, VTAC light mount, and VTAC LPSM low-profile sling mount.

  2. I can’t decide between the S&W MOE Mid pictured above or the Colt 6920 MOE for my first AR. Thoughts?
