When you say “…and get Precise and Instant search results every time”! Does that mean that the Device “Automatically” communicates with the Host Site, because I’m not sure if I like that feature. Which sounds like Personal Data is being exchanged with “Those” sites and/or Any Other sites not of my choosing…
Having not actually used the guide, this is conjecture, so take it for what itÔÇÖs worth. The article seems to indicate that all information on the thumb drive is stored locally, and the search engine is searching a local database. There is also an online database, so it would depend on to which you were referring. It would seem that the thumb drive could be used without an internet connection at all.
Secundius: There are two answers to your question. A yes and a no. I think the hang up is because the blog post discusses multiple methods for getting to the data.
First, the USB Firearms Guide is primarily designed for offline use. ItÔÇÖs a 16GB drive that theyÔÇÖve packed in everything but the kitchen sink. ItÔÇÖs got all of the stuff youÔÇÖd see in the traditional publications. The picture of the back of the package sums it up pretty well.
It gets a little muddy when they mention that the same USB tool includes codes to access the ONLINE firearms database for one year. ItÔÇÖs definitely a fantastic feature to include with the purchase because most places would charge again and again for access to different stuff.
Even though you can get to the online database using the USB/Flash drive, they are still two independent resources. The data on the Flash drive does not need web access; the web database does not need anything from the Flash drive.

I definitely understand how it feels to be leery about researching firearm related stuff online these days. One great thing about the Flash Drive theyÔÇÖve put together here is that if youÔÇÖre concerned about it communicating with the internet, you can just disconnect your computerÔÇÖs connection before plugging the drive in the first time.
