Click here to purchase the Remington 1911 R1.
Remington’s first 1911 in 91 years revealed! The gun was not supposed to be launched until May 1st, but we’ve got an exclusive sneak peek. Well worth the wait, the Remington 1911 R1, comes with two 7-round magazines and a bushing wrench along with an offer for a discount on the purchase of a 1911 Multi Tool. From the information we have gathered, it appears that the pistol is being manufactured at Remington’s facility in Ilion New York. This should bode well for the quality of the pistol. Early reports indicate that the new 1911 will retail for $699.
I just bought one, a dream came true! It is a beautiful gun, and very powerful, one of the real classics! Difficult to hit small targets from 25 yards, but a lot of fun!
got 1 I absolutely love it
Excellent blog here! Also your website loads up fast!
What web host are you using? Can I get your affiliate link to your host?
I wish my site loaded up as fast as yours lol
This design is wicked! You certainly know how to keep a reader amused.
Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own
blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Excellent job. I really loved what
you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
Too cool!
I own one and love it after the first 30 min break down with trying to put the barrel bushing on wrong I can break it down with No tools in less than five minutes and love the way it shoots and the marksman grouping I get with all stock parts…. But I still can’t wait fore upgrades
No thank you,
I will keep my Springfield, the R1 just looks and feels cheap. As for a new sneak peek!, they had R1’s for sale at the last gun show I was at on Feb,17 in WPB, FL. You would be better off with a Taurus 1911 if price is an issue if not,buy a Kimber, Springfield, Ruger, Wilson Combat…….The list goes on and on, just don,t buy the R1
I made a “goof” and purchased a new Remington 1911 pistol. The goof is due to one thing. I had mistakenly assumed that the Remington pistol would accept other 1911 style magazines. It will NOT! I tried both a Kimber 8 round and a Colt 7 round magazine, and had problems with BOTH!!!
It did work OK with the two magazines it came with, but not with others. This flaw makes it impossible to just throw in with my 6 Colt and 2 Kimbers I would have to keep the Remington separate.
This is not a tack driver. It is a close range defense type weapon. As such, I am of the opinion that it should function with ALL standard 45 ACP magazines, which it does not.
The one other thing is the terrible ceramic type grips. If I keep the pistol, they will be replaced with appropriate grips.

Admiring the time and energy you put into your website and in depth information you offer. It’s awesome to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same outdated rehashed information. Fantastic read! I’ve saved your site and I’m adding your RSS feeds to my Google account. Regards Mindi
Can you buy one in MA??
I discovered your blog site on google and check a few of your early posts. Continue to keep up the very good operate. I just additional up your RSS feed to my MSN News Reader. Seeking forward to reading more from you later on!…
This thing ROCKS I bought one and it does feel right and shoots very good …Im getting another …gotta have two .
bidding on one on Gunbroker!!! Maybe it will not have all those MIM parts
I did not know the history but new I liked 1911s from barrowed shootings. Went to cabelas on 12/26/10 and handled every 1911 in house. the R1 felt right with a nice trigger. Went tothe range yesterday and double tapped every steel plate out of box! This has now replaced my normal carry 9mm. I do miss the high cap magazines but with this accuracy I only need halk the rounds!!!!
Im reading that the pistol is made completely by Remington and manufactored at West Ilion NY. don’t think that this will be a conglomeration of parts from throughout the globe like so many of the lower priced 1911’s. I don’t bleed green but I own many Remington firearms (also own some old and new Savages. Just bought a Gold Wing 12 ga O/U and it is a sweet sporting type shotgun. Having said that my main “meat shotgun” is a 12 ga 11-87 and my main rifle is a Rem 700 in 7mm Rem mag. it is a tack driver with the Hornady 162 gr Superformance ammo.
I’m glad this is a steel made in the USA pistol and would gladly pay more than the current MSRP.
Buy American whenever you can, I drve a GMC and the Missus drives a Chevy.
May God bless you all richly and remember to keep the Christ in Christmas. If that statement offends you (I don’t care).
Is the rear sight adjustable?
I put one on layaway yesterday. Probably won’t be able to get it out of hock until mid next year but from what I’ve read, it’ll be worth the wait. Might have to sell something to accelerate the timing.
Why don’t all you whiners put on your big girl panties and get over it,it ain’t Burger King !!!!
I already bought the Remington R1 here in the Philippines from a prestigious gun store here the PB Dionisio Co. In fact I am the first person bought that gun. Remington R1 is a nice gun and I proud of it. I promoted the Remington R1 to my friends, relatives and co employees.
Purchased mine on Gunbroker. Very pleased with the quality. Haven’t been to the farm to shoot it yet.
How does it fire?
Is the frame of the new 1911 steel?
I bought one. Feels great in hand. I regard it as a precise pistol for being straight out of the box. No regrets. love it.
Made in the usa??? Are you sure they aren’t just Assembling in the USA??? I have it on good info that they are!
so im really ecstatic about this i was just about to get a Taurus 1911 and then i read about this i might as well wait till there is one in a store by me
So where can one purchase one of these Remington 1911 r1s?
what is the barrel length
I own one pre 70 series Colt 1911 NM and two 70 series NM’s…and one series 80 1911…unlike some comments I’ve read…my 80 shot a tight group right out of the “box” and is my preferred target pistol..I’ve added large stag grips to fill the hand more evenly…it’s one awesume weapon…I’m looking forward to this Remington 1911 throwback….should be a good one …here’s hoping
RE:Series 80 is a deal breaker.
Comment by John O’Toole
Just curious how you meant this statement…Reason?
Thanks
Series 80 is a deal breaker.
It looks like the wrench is normal for a 1911 without the full length guide rod.
But why complain about a free supplied wrench or other takedown/cleaning tool.
I have seen lots of new items debut just like cars the prototypes and media versions aren’t always the ones offered for sale to the public. Usually after the debuts are over and the second or third year of production some really nice/functional updates and finishes are offered.
Can’t wait!
bye, bye colt you bunch of bitches!
Already making space in the safe. Have a leather prohibition era “Gangster’ style double shoulder rig with a pair of Colts. The Colts are going bye-bye. Always have been a hyper-serious Remington fan. This is a dream come true. The opportunity to own a pair of Remington 1911’s that I can actually tune up to my specs and shoot without fear of being crucified by the collectors of the Rands. I do own two of those as well…but never shot them.
is it massachusetts compliant? will it be?
Wow…
Great looking pistol. I will have to put it on my list. The price is right too.
I want it I want it I must have it. somwhere i read usa made with no mim parts. Seems like price tag 600 to 700 price range. If this is so i will have one.
It is the first commercial one produced in 91 years. The others were war children.
Sorry, gave you a bad link. Here’s a good one.

The one we test was so awesome we put in on the front cover of Shooting Illustrated’s June issue.
Here’s a closer look at the gun. http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?pid=3685839&id=363147449221
what is the cal?
Nice looking weapon. In 1956 I shot a remmington 1911 on the 6th Inf pistol team in Berlin Germany. These pistols had a lot of wear but we still kept winning events all over Europe. Ill buy one.
Looks okay, and I’m glad to see another entry in the mid-priced 1911 field (especially if made in USA!), but there are a lot of questions still unanswered.
Forged or cast components? MIM parts? 100% USGI compatibility? If they do a good job with this and bring it in at the price target, they’ll sell a boatload. (Although, personally, I’d prefer less-in-your-face rollmarks on the slide. The fancy “R1” could be simpler and the “Remington” on the left side looks like a billboard.)
This is the first 1911 in 91 years, Remington Rand made the 1911’s for WW2. That was a diffrent company. In 1887 Remington arms split and became Remington Arms and Remington Typewriter. In 1927 there was a merger with Remington Typewriter, Rand Kardex Company, and Powers Accounting Machine Company, that is where Remington Rand came from. They only 1911’s Remington Arms made were for WW1.
Nice looking pistol. The only thing I see wrong is the wrench which means it probably has a full length guide rod! Easy enough fixed with after market pieces I guess but wish folks would go the other way and let folks add the flgr if thats what turns them on!
This is the first Remington 1911 in 91 years. The Remington of 1942 was Remington-Rand.
The Remington UMC pistols are not the same as the Remington Rand pistols. They are two separate entities. Remington Rand was a builder of type writers.
Its about time.. My father carried a Remington Rand in WWII. Now I will have my own. Bye Bye Colt.
Is this one Polymer too? 😉
They forgot the lanyard loop!
Looks like a good platform to build a Single Stack/CDP gun on.
I disagree that is the first produced in 91 years, I used to carry a Remington 45, build in 1942,, and it was good
i am going to have to get one
