Studies have shown that most gun fights involve an average of 3 shots being fired, lasting 3 seconds, and occurring at a distance of about 3 yards. In other words, in a self-defense situation, (hopefully) you won’t need multiple weapons to stop the threat. Of course, anything is possible. So, while you should be good to go by carrying a spare magazine for your primary gun, life is unpredictable and unforgiving.
Firearms and mental illness is a touchy subject. While many agree that mental illness is behind tragic shootings, simply stripping individuals of their Second Amendment rights based on “mental illness” is a much deeper topic than some may recognize. A broken pipe, ruptured water heater, or a sump pump that goes out during a storm is enough to do it in some areas. In any case, flooding and firearms are not only a bad mix, it can be a financial disaster. This leaves firearms owners who have seen their guns and stored ammunition submerged by flood waters wondering whether their firearms and ammunition can be salvaged and used safely. Fortunately, the National Shooting Sports Foundation and Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) have the answer.
