Olympic Arms Takes a Hard Line Against State and Agency Gun Grabs

Olympic Arms, the AR-15 builder located in Olympia, Washington, recently released a statement about how it will deal with sales to states that are seeking to restrict 2nd Amendment rights. Also, the company published a public repudiation of the official magazine of the Fraternal Order of Police, the FOP Journal, which was soliciting Olympic for advertising dollars. The two Olympic documents appear below:olympic-arms-logo-and-motto

Olympic Arms, Inc. Announces New York State Sales Policy

Olympic Arms is a staunch believer in and defender of the Constitution of the United States, and with special attention paid to the Bill of Rights that succinctly enumerates the security of our Divinely given Rights. One of those Rights is that to Keep and Bear Arms.

Legislation recently passed in the State of New York outlaws the AR15 and many other firearms, and will make it illegal for the good and free citizens of New York to own a large selection of legal and safe firearms and magazines. We feel as though the passage of this legislation exceeds the authority granted to the government of New York by its citizens, and violates the Constitution of the United States, ignoring such SCOTUS rulings as District of Columbia v. Heller – 554, U.S. 570 of 2008, McDonald v. Chicago – 561 U.S. 3025 of 2010, and specifically the case of United States v. Miller – 307 U.S. 174 of 1939.

Due the passing of this legislation, Olympic Arms would like to announce that the State of New York, any Law Enforcement Departments, Law Enforcement Officers, First Responders within the State of New York, or any New York State government entity or employee of such an entity – will no longer be served as customers.

In short, Olympic Arms will no longer be doing business with the State of New York or any governmental entity or employee of such governmental entity within the State of New York – henceforth and until such legislation is repealed, and an apology made to the good people of the State of New York and the American people. If the leaders of the State of New York are willing to limit the right of the free and law abiding citizens of New York to arm themselves as they see fit under the Rights enumerate to all citizens of the United State through the Second Amendment, we feel as though the legislators and government entities within the State of New York should have to abide by the same restrictions.

This action has caused a division of the people into classes: Those the government deems valuable enough to protect with modern firearms, and those whose lives have been deemed as having less value, and whom the government has decided do not deserve the right to protect themselves with the same firearms. Olympic Arms will not support such behavior or policy against any citizen of this great nation.

Olympic Arms invites all firearms manufacturers, distributors and firearms dealers to join us in this action to refuse to do business with the State of New York. We must stand together, or we shall surely fall divided.

Sincerely, Brian Schuetz President, Olympic Arms, Inc.

Olympic Arms Statement to ‘FOP Journal’

Olympic Arms was recently asked to advertise in the FOP Journal; the official magazine of the Fraternal Order of Police. It is well known that the FOP is a staunch supporter of Gun Control, had backed the AWB under Bill Clinton, and supports the current AWB under consideration that was introduced by Diane Feinstein. The FOP was actually accredited as being one of the sources that helped prepare the language of Gun Control suggestions that were forwarded by Vice President Biden. Below is a copy of our response to the FOP Journal;: Please forward this email to every major principal in your organization.

  1. The Fraternal Order of Police is on Congressional Record as having been a major supporter of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban.
  2. As a matter of fact and record, the FOP is accredited with assisting VP Biden in formulating the language of the newly proposed ban:
  3. Additionally, as a matter of fact and public record, the FOP is in support of the newly recommended Assault Weapons Ban introduced by Senator Feinstein.

THEREFORE: Olympic Arms, Inc, manufacturers of AR15 type firearms, firearms that these legislators would call “Assault Weapons”, will not be supporting in any way, shape, form or fashion, The Fraternal Order of Police, any organization that represents, supports, takes advertising dollars from, spends advertising dollars with, is in anyway related to, any individual who is a card carrying member of, or any person or entity in any way associated with the Fraternal Order of Police. Period. Henceforth;

  • Be assured that Olympic Arms will not rest in its efforts to educate our customers, fans and followers the extent of the hypocrisy committed by the FOP and FOP Journal; (fighting to outlaw the firearms produced by the very companies they now solicit for advertising dollars…). You can also be certain that we continue to make every effort to properly educate the firearms consumer in general, of the same.
  • Additionally, we will make continued efforts at assure that ALL firearms manufacturers are aware of the FOP’s support to strip Constitutional Rights from Americans, and their support of further unconstitutional gun control legislation.
  • We pledge to inform all of our customers the lengths that the FOP and associated FOP affiliates by proxy (which includes all your advertisers) are willing to go to in order to strip the American Citizen of their Constitutional Rights, while at the same time writing in exemptions to the same legislation to ensure that their members maintain those same rights they would have stripped from others.
  • Your actions are the actions of a rogue organization supporting tyranny, not an organization sworn to uphold the laws of the land, to protect, serve and defend their constituencies.

Let it be known that your actions are reprehensible and shameful.

Sincerely, Thomas A. Spithaler Sales & Marketing Dir. Olympic Arms, Inc.

Comments (200)

  1. After reading this, I will no longer donate any money to FOP. What money I would have given will go to the NRA.

  2. With companies like Olympic and others looking for a “gun friendly” government, Texas will welcome them with open arms, of both kinds… Many companies from the “liberal” coasts are being courted by our governor Rick Perry’s administration, with a lot of our blessings.

Could that be one of the reasons, even in this terrible economy, Texas is one of the few states that is actually doing a lot better than most of this country. We have our own electric grid, port of entries for world trade, and an agricultural sustainability that can feed our population, plus others.

  3. After reading all of the above comments, I agree that Olympic Arms has taken the appropriate step and other gun and ammunition manufacturers need to do the same. The molding of police forces into military style units while disarming the public is a clear recipe for disaster. It must be noted that we may have crossed the line from where the public was trusted and obligated to preserve its own government, even through defensive force, to where it is to be “cared for” and ruled by an increasingly distrustful and intrusive central power. As a resident of the SPRM (Socialist Peoples Republic of Maryland), I would ask that Olympic arms and all of the other patriotic gun and ammo manufacturers and dealers include Maryland in your boycott.

  4. Thank you for standing up for our rights! We all should support Olympic Arms not just with our words, but with our wallets! The next time you have a firearms purchase, try to buy from Olympic, and those others who are standing up,for our rights, first! Thank you Olympic Arms! Bravo!

  5. I applaud Olympic Firearms and their officers for taking such a principled stance against our overreaching government. You are a courageous company and I hope all others will follow your lead. Please add Maryland to your Banned list our governor O’Malley and New York’s Cumo are kissing each others ass and trying to pass legislation the same as New York We should also send a email to Berretta who builds guns in Maryland to go to TX or a gun friendly state or we should ALL stop buying Berretta guns… WE need to also send a message to these companies that do business in these states….Cheaper Than Dirt give us a list of these companies !!!

  6. I have to also add that we (in some states) still have capital punishment and it has been proven that it does not deter capital crimes such as murder; so why do the moron leftist and Obamaites think that gun bans will do anything to stop such crimes. We all know how Obama likes to side step congress and ignore the constitution . His ego is like that of a megalomaniac . We have to stop these people that would take our liberties and force us more towards a socialist society. Just look at Obama care and that should be enough to convince anyone.

  7. OoRah Qlympic.

Thank you for your staunch support for the Second Amendment. Too many people in this greatest country on God’s green earth take their rights for granted, including some of my friends and family. I keep reminding them that all other rights enumerated in the Constitution and Bill of Rights hinge on the Second Amendment. Once a free people cede a right, the purchase price to win it back is ALWAYS blood.

  8. Good job Olympic and Cheaper Than Dirt. Hope your stand will inspire S & W, Colt, Ruger, Glock, Winchester,Remington and all the others. Too many to name. Keep these “Illegal” firearms out of the hands of all government entities. If an honest law abiding citizen can’t have them then why should governments since these weapons are so dangerous? Are all cops competent?

  9. I was overwhelmed to finialy hear of the news of olympic firearms stance .It has been the first time I was proud to be a american since the horribe administration has crushed our rights and started the PLAN TO DESTROY AMERICAN rights one step at a time .Please all manufactures you have a much as we do to loose join the fight for our freedom and our country. This country will not fall to this take over of the new miltary way of control. We are all horiffied at the shooting of children and any Innocent life loss but what kind of sick officials use this to bring down a nation of Free PEOPLE to further reduce us to SHEEP of there control .WE ARE NOT CONTROLED BU THE GOVERMENT THEY WORK FOR US .Somehow they think we work for them ,WE DO NOT .From now on they should all have there slaries reduced to 40.000 a year like us and have the same health care we do .You people are not Hollywood Celebrities spending free money you are workers of the country .Your job is not to control and force us into submission under your orders.PLEASE STEP UP .

  10. Kudos for Olympic Arms and others who are refusing to ‘get along’ with the anti-Constitutionalists of all stripes! I look forward to the ammunition manufacturers to with-hold from those states and G’mnt bureaucracies (except the military) until there is no more demand from the ‘civilians’ and free citizens of this great country.

  11. I applaud Olympic Firearms and their officers for taking such a principled stance against our overreaching government. You are a courageous company and I hope all others will follow your lead. Hats off to you – job well done. Very Sincerely, James Holland

  12. Reply to post 181. That is a good idea as I live in Pa. and there are a lot of gun owners and hunters here. I have already contacted our reps. and have stated my position on this issue. The Rod & Gun club I belong to has over 1500 members.

  13. U have earned my money/ business thanks my hats off to you.never thought to much about Olympic Arms but now I’m on the hunt (:P u wont regret this. U have started a good movement lets hope other do the same again!- u gained a new faithfull costumer / long time friend thanks again!

  14. Where are the gun owning Democrats hiding? Why don’t they come out and tell the dems that are trying to push the gun bans that they as democrates will not be re-electing Democrate politians that support radical gun control.

We should all let our elected goverment teat sucking politians know we will remember their stand on gun control when we next vote.

  15. Thank you Olympic Arms for standing up to the gun grabbing, constitutional rights denying government agencies. I think we have all had enough of being mistreated and having our rights stolen by power grabbing elected officials. I will patronize your company and encourage all my friends to do the same. We will win this fight if we all stick together. Thanks again.

    David Hidalgo

  16. God Bless the REAL Americans at Olympic Arms and LaRue Tactical!
Please support Olympic Arms and LaRue Tactical and others that take great risk to support YOU and our 2nd ammendment!

  17. So from now on, CTD, Olympic arms and LaRue will be the source of my purchaces if at all I can find them there, we all should, in fact, only buy from those courageous enough to call the LIBS out on this stupidity, thank you to all three……now we need the ammo manufacturer’s to join and we will have a ball game…..the LEO’s in those States have stock-piles but wont last long

  18. Just got a quick one line response from the FOP.
    Here it is:
That bill in 2008 does not reflect her new bill that is currently in discussion.

I guess he does not understand that my argument stands for any “assault weapons” ban.

    John from Wyoming

  19. Zach(post #122,) This is what I sent to the FOP in response to their message posted #62 on this thread:

Your own response to me tells me that your organization supported the first “assault weapons” ban. Your own website states that as recent at the 108th Congress (your latest and only archived list of supported legislation) you supported “S. 2109 (Feinstein, D-CA), the “Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act” would reauthorize the Federal ban on certain types of assault weapons for an additional ten years;”

The fact that this is posted on your web site makes your statement, “The information posted on the Olympics Arms Facebook page is inaccurate,” a falsehood.

Are you now stating that your organization is switching it’s position on such legislation? If so, please respond post haste so that I can assist you in getting the word out by informing media outlets of this shift in position.

    John Bear

Thanks Zach for your research into the matter.

  20. Thanks Again Olympic Arms for you stand against the TYRANTS of our nation. I too will be buying your products from now on. It is too bad other companies have not followed your lead. They are going to suffer from lack of sells because of their lack of stance for the 2nd Amendment. Many like me will buy from you and NOT from them.

  21. I am a current owner of your fine products and I completely SUPPORT Brian Schuetz
decision.. I will make it my mission that any one of my sport friends looking for a rifle to consider only your products because of his recent release. and shame on other manufactures to not follow your lead……………….

  22. Thank you Olympic Arms! You have taken a stand against the corrupt and deluded state of New York. You will easily make up the shortfall from all the people who applaud your stand. It is refreshing to see an American business with principle and guts. I plan on buying an Olympic upper receiver as soon as this madness slows down to show my support. God bless your company.

  23. A short note to let you know that I took the time, interest, and concern to carefully read each and every word of this article. I have found one singular error in the script written by Mr. Spithaler. The salutation should be: “Respectfully” and not “Sincerely” as he is asking for his work to be taken in all seriousness, and not with admiration.

I would hate to have the the morons who live in secure gated communities to think for one moment that those of us who have stood watch on the “wall” (Cpl. USMC) have anything but the the utmost contempt and disdain for their holier than thou hypocrisy.

  24. Bravo to Olympic Arms and CTD. We now need to devise a strategy to have this information posted across the web, not just within this forum. There may be legalities in areas where breach of contract might arise, but the forthrightness of the protest is more than valid. It is our Inalienable Right as provided in the Bill of Rights. I leave it to a more knowledgeable internet person to post these comments across the web.

  25. This is an issue that is not talked about enough in the media for certain, and should be the most singular reason cited for US Citizens to be afforded the right to own AR 15 rifles, or any other “Assault” variant rifle. In the past months there has been nothing less than a demonizing of these firearms, citing them as high capacity weapons that serve no other person than to kill as many people possible, as quickly as possible. Well…if that is a true statement…then why has no one–I mean NO ONE–asked on any news network I have seen–as to why it is that the Police Departments around the country are in need of such weapons themselves then? Oh, in fully automatic format no less, yes? Are they intending to kill as many civilians as possible? Okay, no, lets hope that never becomes the case. But we can safely assume that Police Departments do issue these weapons so that their officers are afforded the superior firepower needed to address any criminal threat that should arise. Now, if it is true (and most abhorently obvious anywhere a police presence is documented these days by the weaponry they are seen carrying) that in order to combat todays criminal element the use of “assault” rifle are required (again, and they are afforded full auto vaiants) then why–oh please tell me me why–should they even begin to make the case that civilians at home with their own families NOT require the same firepower to defend themselves as deemed necessary in the same way by every duty officer across the country–EVEN IN THOSE STATES BANNING THEM! Truth be told, most police officers do not prevent violent crimes, they instead usually show up to little too late, only to investigate for discovery and perhaps prosecution of the perpetrator who committed the crime (AFTER IT HAS ALREADY BEEN COMMITTED). And what good does that do the victims? In talking about gun control here is a little fact that fail to tie to the 10,000 some odd shooting deaths that occured last year–and that is, for every single one of those that occurred, there is someone now deceased with whom the police departments across this nation FAILED TO PROTECT! More conversation HAS TO BE MADE regarding these glaring truths within the media. Simply put–IF CRIMINAL VIOLENCE IS SO BAD THE POLICE NEED FULL_AUTO AR 15s to protect themselves, THEN WHY THE HELL SHOULD NORMAL CITIZENS NOT BE FIT TO OWN THE SAME LEVEL OF PROTECTION?
Now, I am not a conspiracy theorist or anything like that, but I will pose this one simple suggestion I have been frustrated with for quite sometime. Often, there are many products developed and sold in todays market that are deemed for Military and LE use only, and yeah, some of it I get I suppose. But why should any Law Enforcement agency require anything at their disposal that is not deemed appropriate for civilian defense? They are not fighting a war in some distant land. For what purpose does an armored vehicle serve anyone whos job is to simply “keep the peace?” Here is an interesting bit of info–withing the doctrine of the US CONSTITUTION is states that this country’s military AT NO TIME SHALL BE USED AGAINST ITS OWN CITIZENS–to paraphrase a bit. However, it has somehow become acceptable to arm our Law Enforcement Officers to the hilt with much the same equipment afforded the military today–albeit seeming to me a simple way to offer military control over the people of this nation, yet without deeming it as being in use of the military. See where I am going here? Aside from a variation in uniform, can someone please tell me what the hell the difference between military personel and the Police even is anymore, besides perhaps their commanded usage? You certainly get around the Constitutions decree by not having to use the military against its own people, provided you arm your government officials with the same exact equipment, and merely call them the Police–wouldn’t that be suffice to say? I hope most people can clearly see, in truth (even as Thomas Jefferson warned and cited in reference to the 2nd amendment) no country comprised of a free people will ever be able to defend themselves against a rising tyranny, should that tyrannical entity be rest assured it has afforded itself the advantage of having superior equipment and superior firepower over it resisting opponet. And like I said, I am no conspiracy theorist…just saying it does not even begin to make sense that this is the case. If Law Enforcement deems it necessary to possess such deterents in order to defend themselves against the criminal element, THEN WHY SHOULDN’T WE BE AFFORDED THE SAME DETERENTS IN ORDER TO DEFEND OURSELVES? OUR FAMILIES? OUR OWN CHILDREN? Otherwise…victims arent we all. And the best we can hope for is that after it is too late, after the Police finally arrive armed to the hilt, and after such a violent crime has had the misfortune of visiting our own, we are reduced to simply hoping in those last moments that, perhaps, hopefully, if we are lucky, they may catch and prosecute the perpetrator AFTER he has already committed the act of which we were so rendered defenseless as to prevent such a tragic occurance in the first place.
Demand these questions be asked! Force the media to ask the question–why–why if these weapons are not a deterent against crime–then why are they such a necessecity within the arsenal of those sworn to uphold the law? I mean, if the criminal element out there is not so bad that I do not need one…then why do they?
Makes you wonder, or at least it does me.

  26. A big THANK YOU to Olympic arms. I hope every manufacturer will exit New York state because money talks and our government “leaders” only respect the dollar. The right to bear arms is not just to protect ourselves but it is to insure OUR LIBERTY. I do not want to be a US subject, like our fore fathers I will remain a U.S. Citizen. I have a better idea lets take guns away from criminals!

  27. Thank you and I hope that other Mauufacturers of both weapons, Weapon Components and Munitions join you. This is a breath of fresh air at a stressful time. The other weapon we the people have is the ability to vote. These people legislating our rights away need to be put out of office. They do not wish to lead they wish to rule. More of us must show up at the polls. Again thank you Olympic Arms.

  28. Seriously the coice is simple, either we have a system where there are two sets of laws, two classes of citizens, two americas, or we don’t. We should not have to seffer rebels atacking the constitution be they in CA or NY, or in our local jurisdictions. There is one constitution (federal) for all america and every other law must conform to it. The bans by CA and NY don’t. Many state and local legislation as well as some federal legislation doesn’t. We should be repealing these illigitimate laws, not passing new laws designed only to make our society more dangerous and less law abiding with a standard set from our houses of government, now filled with rebels who think themselves kings. We have no kings here, and we’ve made that point several times in our history.

  29. Some bonehead dems in MO are throwing out a total confiscation bill, 90 days to turn ’em in or you’re deemed a criminal. Good luck getting that passed…but if it did pass, you have a 90 day countdown to civil war.
Good to go, Olympic. If I could afford one (and didn’t have to wait for months to get one) I would buy an AR just for support.

  30. It’s great that a small scale manufacturer is taking a public stand, but they do need to be honest and forthright about why, so that we can bring another threat in to view. They and all other small AR-focused manufacturers will be severely financially damaged by any ban and must fight to survive. Large manufacturers like Remington and Colt and such will be able to corner the market if any ban is put in place and just like the first such gun bans they will be secretly lobbying to make an AWB happen.

They not only sell a large amount of the “nice gentle kind-hearted guns” but also sell the “wicked evil black guns” directly to the government and don’t need civilian sales to keep their production lines running. They just need more wars in dumpy little countries that aren’t worth dumping nuclear waste in. Funny someone hoped Remington would move from New York, when New York helped get us into Iraq and Afghanistan (They were awarded the contract to produce M4s for the military) and is leading the nation in putting their competitors out of business. There needs to be a very strong public opinion push against the big manufacturers to ensure that they don’t try any of their old tricks out and screw us all to their profit.

  32. I applaud Olympia Arms and all manufacturers who are refusing to sell the hostile state governments. If we all stand together, they will not be able to function.

  33. It’s great to see a company stand up for our rights and hopefully others will follow.
Until recently I haven’t been much for owning guns. Not saying I didn’t. Never really saw the need until now. Sorry to say our government is providing that need. In light of recent events many dealers have jacked the prices of purchasing a gun. Including not so Cheaper Than Dirt. Sorry guys! Nothing against anyone making a profit but help us help you. 1 or 2 more purchases and I’ll have what I feel I need. After that It’ll be purchases of what I may like to have and/or an effort to support companies like Olympic Arms who is now on top of the list of companies who’s products to purchase. Providing I can afford it, which goes back to the dealers. Keep in mind it’s not just a battle to keep our guns. It’s our freedom, period!!!!

  34. Thank God for your company and your strong beliefs in the Second Amendment. I will stand beside you till the end.As a veteran, Life time NRA member and a member of rifle and pistol clubs, plus a strong believer in the American Constitution and our Bill of Rights. I believe it looks like this country is heading towards a Marxist Socialistic country. I can’t believe the stupidity I see in some of our fellow country men. They want the government to give them everything for nothing and then cry like Hell when they have to do something to get it. They are like a flock of sheep being led blindly down the road of destruction. This scares me. When the sh** hits the fan it will short lived, but a lot of good people will pay the price for a lot of DUMB ASSES. May GOD be with us. Clarence & Patricia Perkins

  35. Congrats to Olympic Arms.I hope many, many more of the Arm’s companies follow suit.I will say that Remington Arms and Magpul in Colorado are always welcome to move your business to a Right to Bear Arms State here in Wyoming. We have wide open spaces, workers who want to work outside the oil and gas fields and a great economy and lets not forget large areas for R&D.

  36. again good going olympic andcheaper than dirt i get e-mail subs from other gun and supply companies i simply ask them their stand or lack of if they like spector have no view or dont want to get involved they dont need my business all they know is money . and politician only no taxes

  37. Thomas A. Spithaler
    Sales & Marketing Dir.
    Olympic Arms, Inc.

It is so hopeful to know that there is a company that will stand-up for what is honorable over the almighty dollar when it comes to the defense of the country.
As many others have already stated, it is my hope that every arms manufacturer will take a page from your book and not do business with any state that feels the need to manipulate and dishonor our Constitution,
There is no question that our Constitution is under siege and every effort has to be taken to prevent its destruction from those who have no understanding, or desire to know, its importance to the foundation to our country.

    M. Baptiste

  38. Good for Olympic. I can not help but wonder if some very large companies in the industry are using state and federal legislation to reduce their competition (rent seeking). The ban on reimport of OUR Garand’s from Korea because their purchase would reduce new sales is one example. DPMS ,Magpul and many other companies are being beat down also. Time for Drastic change in Washington and many state capitols. We are not all Tree hugging, government embracing, pacifists. We can and should declare free states across North America. Conservatives have RIGHTS too. They repeatedly breach the Contract(Constitution). Free trade with out government .

  39. I applaud your stand and commitment to our precious constitution. The government is becoming the problem and we the people have the responsibility to ensure the blessings of freedom for our future generations. I am retired from the Navy and I have never been absolved from my oath to defend and protect the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic, we are the safeguards that stand between freedom and tyranny. As an American citizen we have the power to vote these radicals out, if they want a gun free state they can pack their things and go to a country that has those limitations in place. I know a lot of people who would buy their one way ticket. Our founding fathers would be up in arms at the state of our country.
    Roy H.

  40. Great thing you done, now other firearm manufactures, ammo, part and any firearm related item need to be next. T Joe F for more information on prices going up open your eyes, when manufactures prices go up for parts, equipment and the main reason Government TAXES your price has to follow. Hey J.Jensen maybe they should get out of that state and move to a state that would really thank them for being there, and their taxes would be cheaper.
