Reader Comments of the Week

“In today’s world most of us have both a handgun and a shotgun we keep available for home defense. The Maverick 88 fits that role with a 18.5 barrel installed. It also costs less so you can try many different loads to fit your situation perfect. Without breaking the bank. It is not a competition unit but if home defense is your goal for a shotgun it cannot be beat. And, sorry to say, but if it gets stolen it is easily replaced again without breaking the bank.”

– FRANK, in response to Top 5 Shotguns for Home Defense

“I dont carry a BUG, or multiple mags. I do shoot my edc regularly and rotate magazines and ammo. At my bedside is a DA 44spc revolver. I very much like the simplicity of the revolver for bedside.  No fumbling,  no magazine to worry about or manual safety of any kind.  I do not worry about reloads as it is primarily to get me to my long gun if the threat is not already resolved.”

– CLIFFFALLING, in response to Commonality Among Handguns

“I have been looking at .22LR handguns for a while. I will definitely check this out. BTW you can definitely use a .22 for self defense. Few hand guns are 1 shot 1 immediate kill (see .357 magnum history) Few rifles are unless you make a neurological shot. If you don’t believe me that means you have never gone deer hunting. Even a perfect heart shot will leave someone alive up to 30 seconds to continue their attack. The .22 penetrates but doesn’t exit many times bouncing around inside causing damage. The minimal kick means an average shooter can stay on target for multiple shots. Its also not likely to kill your family after going through 3 walls. It’s not for everyone but it has a place.”

– GEORGE, in response to Review: Ruger LCP II Lite Rack .22

“This review was excellent. Just the facts,ma’am, and none of the hackneyed phrases used by every other gun writer. Information to help make a decision, not push a favorite. Where can I find more of Mr. Roberts’ reviews? I was on the fence, but now I’m getting one.”

Though he is fairly new to the industry, he loves consuming all information related to guns and is constantly trying to enhance his knowledge, understanding and use of firearms. Not a day goes by where he doesn’t do something firearms-related.

Alex tries to visit the range at least a couple of times a month to maintain and improve his shooting skills. He also enjoys disassembling and reassembling firearms to see how they work and to keep them properly cleaned and maintained. He installs most of the upgrades to his firearms himself, taking it as a chance to learn.

Additionally, he is very into buying, selling and trading guns to test different firearms and learn more about them. He is not only interested in modern handguns and rifles, he appreciates the classics for both historical value and real-world use.
