Reader Comments of the Week

“From about 1980 until about 1987 the Police Dept. I worked for issued S&W mod. 25-5’s, which is an N-frame revolver in .45 Colt. I love the cartridge. The only issue was that in that time period there was only low-velocity factory loads available. After carrying .357 magnums, these loads were not as effective in stopping threats. We were able to purchase our duty guns when the Dept. switched to auto pistols and I still have my old issued 25-5.”

– CATOOSA, in response to The .45 Colt: An Old Cartridge With A Lot To Offer

“The range I frequent will let you draw from a holster or concealment after getting a card to do so. My favorite drill is to run the target out to 7 yards, then hit the automatic return, and step off the “x” to fire three shots as the target is coming toward me. If I’m doing good, I will bring it in to 5 yards. Making it a bit more challenging.”

– OLDSEABEE, in response to Mastering the Art of Firearm Training

““IF” you become skilled shooting a 12-gauge, and can handle the recoil. then it is an option. The question is how many persons can? Same as .45 caliber vs. 9mm. I would start with a lower gauge to determine which I could handle safely. I shot the 12-gauge in the military, and if I never shoot one again it will be Ok by me. I do not feel that way about my 20-gauge shooting experience. A 28-gauge may be the best choice for some persons. Hitting the target is paramount.”
