Reader Comments of the Week

“My father gave me a 1930’s, .30-30 Winchester model 94 as a teen in 1975. It’s still my go-to rifle in almost all situations. Lightweight, durable, travels easily, great brush gun, and it packs a punch. Also, the relatively light recoil is nice compared to other rifles used for hunting and target shooting, which the author didn’t mention. Don’t have to worry about flinching before the trigger break. I’ll likely pass it on to my grandsons, and perhaps it will still be firing in another 90 years.”

– MIKE, in response to Discover the Best .30-30 Lever-Action Rifles

“I like articles on handguns so I can keep up on current information. I just started pistol shooting with in the last few years. I have a Dan Wesson SS Commander as my only 1911 and I have enjoyed shooting it every time I take it to the range. The trigger is excellent and the pistol performs well with all kinds of 45 ACP ammunition. I picked this Gun so I don’t have to worry about dependability. I carry my Sig Sauer Romeo Zero more than any of my other guns due to the accuracy size and the addition of a safety. I only feel comfortable with a gun setup this way so I can carry with a round in the chamber.”

– BARRY, in response to Are High-End Handguns Worth the Money?

“Simply put, the best handgun for self-defense is the one you are comfortable and proficient with, emphasis on proficiency. Anyone who has been through a stress shoot knows your skills degrade under pressure, no matter your training and talent. Choose a gun *you* like and practice, practice, practice, and then practice some more. Snap caps exist for this reason. Happy shooting, y’all.”

– LISA, in response to Best Home Defense Pistols

About the Author:

Alex Cole

Alex is a relatively young firearms enthusiast who’s been shooting consistently for around seven years. Though he is fairly new to the industry, he loves consuming all information related to guns and is constantly trying to enhance his knowledge, understanding and use of firearms. Not a day goes by where he doesn’t do something firearms-related.

Alex tries to visit the range at least a couple of times a month to maintain and improve his shooting skills. He also enjoys disassembling and reassembling firearms to see how they work and to keep them properly cleaned and maintained. He installs most of the upgrades to his firearms himself, taking it as a chance to learn.

Additionally, he is very into buying, selling and trading guns to test different firearms and learn more about them. He is not only interested in modern handguns and rifles, he appreciates the classics for both historical value and real-world use.
