Reader Comments of the Week
“Great article. I have a lot of weapons and don’t forget the viability of the old Com Bloc weapons if you have them. I picked most of mine and their ammo up when they were dirt cheap. 3 Mosin Nagant 91/30’s and one M44 carbine, a WASR AK and two SKSs, on Norinco and the other Yugoslav and tons of 7.62×39 ammo. As for the Mosins, if civilization breaks down I’m pretty sure those tough old dinosaurs will be working 100 years from now!”
– EDWARD, in response to Apocalypse Guns: Best Firearms for SHTF Scenarios
“I’ve lived by a simple standard when it comes to cleaning firearms. The gun gets shot, it gets cleaned, top to bottom, mags and all. Could be the reason when you squeeze the trigger on them, they go bang. Worked in a gun shop, pawn shop years ago. Always remember dudes coming in with a rifle, shotgun pistol, or revolver. Opens up the case to get a loan. Looks like it was pulled out of the Titanic, and the bore was a stalagmite cave… Rode hard and put up wet…”
– OLD WOMBAT, in response to Firearms: How Clean Is Too Clean?
“I like the layout of Mossberg’s more traditional 30-30 carbine, but I can’t say I find the action as smooth or solid feeling as my pre-64 Winchester Model 94 or even older Marlin 336. None of them are as slick as my Browning 92, but chambering the shorter 44 Magnum, this should come as no surprise. The best one of all is my Uberti 73 in 44 Special. It runs like greased lightning. If it weren’t for the weak cartridge and immaculate beauty of this carbine, it would be my go-to lever gun.”
– COLONEL K, in response to Review: Mossberg 464 SPX Lever-Action Rifle
