Leapers/UTG Combat Operations Quick Detach Aluminum Grip Light Product Review

Leapers/UTG combat operations quick-detach grip light

The Leapers/UTG combat operations quick-detach grip light gives you a vertical grip for your rifle and a bright 150 lumens LED light in one package. It has an integral Picatinny/Weaver mount to fit any long gun. For nighttime and low-light shooting situations, you need a self-defense light. The UTG grip light has a pre-focused instant bright spot in the middle of the light for quick target acquisition. The lighter halo around the center spot illuminates a wide area around the target.

Emitting 150 lumens of white light, 26mm CREE LED is bright and clear. The entire grip and the light’s housing is made of rugged, aircraft-grade aluminum alloy with an anodized black matte finish that does not scratch easily. Although the grip light is a bit heavy at 12 ounces with batteries installed, it is a durable product.

The foregrip itself has a rough, but not uncomfortable texture. It was quite warm when I was testing it out and my palms got moist. The textured grip proved itself and I kept a firm hold on the grip the entire time I was using it. It will not slip. It fit my hand well and was comfortable to hold. However, you have above average sized hands, you might not be as comfortable as I am. It is 1.43 inches in diameter.

Mounting is quick and easy with the Picatinny/Weaver mounting deck. I tried it on UTG and Magpul rails. It mounts solidly and doesn’t wiggle at all. The patent pending quick-detach cam lever locks the grip firmly into place.

One thing I do not like about the light is the lack of a momentary on and strobe, however the on/off button is sensitive enough that I could barely touch it and strobe the light myself. I’m not sure if UTG intended for that to be a feature, but it works for me! The button is not awkward to get to and has the same, but softer, texture as the grip.

UTG describes the light’s head as a “combat tactical front head.” I am not sure what the use of it is, due to the placement of the foregrip on my rifle, but it does add a tactical look to the light.

Included in the package are two CR123A lithium batteries, an instruction manual, and an Allen wrench for adjustments once you have the grip mounted.

For a basic, self-defense light, the UTG combat operations quick-detach grip light works well on my rimfire tactical rifle and is well worth the price.

Pros: bright, spot light focus, solidly built, non-slip grip Cons: no strobe, no adjustable beam, heavy
