If you are not a fan of laser trainers, either you haven’t had the opportunity to try one or you somehow had the wrong opportunity. A laser trainer is the ideal tool to teach a new shooter the basics of firearm safety as well as the manual of arms for a new firearm. Beyond the obvious benefit of safety, the training can be done for only the low cost of the device and a few batteries now and then.
When selecting a laser trainer from LaserLyte, there are a couple of considerations. First, do you want a “blue gun” such as LaserLyte’s Trigger Tyme with an integrated laser? This system is non-threatening and the safest. The grip design is familiar to Glock owners and shooters and will work with most holsters designed for Glock model handguns. Due to the integrated design, it is impossible to put a live round in the trainer.
Other trainers from LaserLyte are caliber specific. I have trainers for 9mm and .45 ACP that fit in the chamber and do not eject when the action is cycled, but LaserLyte manufacturers the cartridges for several semiautomatic calibers. This is great for practicing failure to fire, feed or eject drills as well as drawing from a concealed carry location safely. Best of all, you are practicing with the exact handgun or handguns that you carry, defend your home, compete and plink with!
Are you a fan of ARs? LaserLyte makes the LT-C556 just for black gun enthusiasts. All you’ll need to do is camber the cartridge and swap out the charging handle. Presto! You are ready to practice with your AR anytime and anywhere. The system is completely safe and with a laser target, you get instant feedback as for shot placement and accuracy.
The Next Generation of Laser Trainer
About the only thing missing from LaserLyte’s lineup has been a model designed for revolver calibers until now. LaserLyte recently announced the introduction of the LT-Premium (LT-PRE), which combines the proven training features of the LT-PRO with a new ON/OFF switch to conserve battery life, and a tool-less barrel diameter adjustment to easily fit nearly any handgun.
This ups the ante for semiauto shooters, but the LT-PRE is also the laser trainer designed to fit “snubbie” revolvers such as the popular Smith & Wesson J-Frame and Taurus M85 revolvers. The LT-PRE requires a barrel length of at least 1.875-inches. Beyond snubbies, the LT-PRE is ready for action in your .380 ACP, 9mm, .38 Spl., .357 Mag., .357 SIG, .40 S&W, 10mm, .45 LC, .45 ACP, or .50 AE.
The LT-PRE mounts inside the muzzle-end of a barrel and uses a sound activated switch that illuminates the laser for 100 milliseconds. This shows the impact with a laser dot every time the hammer or striker fires allowing the user to train at home while saving money on expensive or hard-to-find ammunition.
Paired with LaserLyte Laser Training Targets, the LT-PRE is the most effective system for shooters to become proficient with nearly any pistol caliber, from .380 ACP up to .50 AE.
