Gobblers Beware, The New Super X Pump Long Beard Is Now Available From Winchester Repeating Arms

Forget the bald eagles, Ben Franklin wanted to make the wild turkey the national bird and for good reason. Turkeys are tough to hunt, have red, white, and blue heads, and darn smart. They are also rather tough to kill—but firearm and ammunition manufacturers are working to even that score. New shotshells, better optics, and improved guns, it’s enough to get a turkey hunter’s blood boiling! Speaking of which, here is the latest gobbler getter from Winchester. Super-X-Pump-Long-Beard Turkey hunters will want to take a look at the new for 2016 Super X Pump Long Beard 12 gauge pump model shotgun from Winchester Repeating Arms. This new model features a synthetic pistol grip stock with textured gripping surfaces and the Mossy Oak Break-Up Country camo pattern. To allow the shooter to fit the shotgun to them, two interchangeable comb pieces are included. This allows the shooter to adjust the drop at comb for use with iron, electronic, or optical sights.

Length of pull is also adjustable with two interchangeable spacers that are provided with the shotgun to enable the owner to fine-tune stock fit. An Invector-Plus Extra-Full Long Beard turkey choke tube provides a tight, dense pattern. The 24” barrel features TRUGLO fiber-optic sights.

  1. For the past two years I used my UTAS UTS15 12 ga pump with the 7-1/2″ barrel extension, a magazine limiter which UTAS makes for the gun, a TruGlo turkey choke, and EoTech XPS2 sight. I also use camo tape to cover the gun up to the action, which is the part that sticks out from my camo jacket.

The UTS, although usually thought of as a tactical shotgun, also has the pistol grip and rail for mounting the sight. I think it is an excellent choice for turkey hunting, where accurate sighting is essential.

Of course, it is twice the cost of the Super X, so that is a consideration.
