Gallup Poll Showing Declining Support for Gun Ban Hailed by SAF

When rallying against the Second Amendment, politicians continually claim the majority of Americans support banning so-called “assault weapons.” Whether they are out of touch or simply denying the truth, Americans are not in favor of gun bans—not even another assault weapons ban. Here is the full release from the Second Amendment Foundation citing a Gallup poll that demonstrates Americans’ do not support more gun control. gun-control-poll A new Gallup poll that shows dramatically declining support for a ban on so-called “assault weapons” is proof that more Americans are waking up to the fact that gun bans and restrictive control in general are not the solutions to violent crime, the Second Amendment Foundation said today.

“While extremist anti-gunners in Washington, D.C. push their agenda of public disarmament, this new poll shows that support for the right to keep and bear arms stretches across party lines all over the country,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “Some people may think gun control is an issue that will carry them into the White House, but out here where common sense prevails, the idea of banning guns only puts people in the dog house.” According to Gallup, only 36 percent of the people support a ban on “assault weapons,” where 44 percent backed the idea in 2012 and 57 percent liked the idea back in 1996. Gottlieb said the past 20 years have allowed Second Amendment organizations to educate the public, and many political leaders, about the false promise of restrictive gun control and outright bans.

“Taking perfectly legal firearms away from law-abiding citizens does nothing to discourage criminals from committing crimes with guns they obtain illegally,” Gottlieb explained. “Demonizing honest citizens who have harmed nobody by blaming their guns for crimes they didn’t commit does not pass the smell test, and the new Gallup results show that an increasing number of Americans have wised up to that.” Gottlieb was disappointed, though not surprised, that more Democrats than Republicans still favor a ban. But he is encouraged because the poll results suggest that efforts by gun rights organizations to educate the public about Second Amendment issues and the futility of gun bans are working.

“The more people understand that banning guns for law-abiding citizens will not prevent criminals from breaking the law, the less time we will waste on fighting over gun rights, and the more time we can spend on finding sensible solutions to lowering the violent crime rates,” Gottlieb concluded.

  1. When government openly tells prosecutors and law-enforcement not to enforce existing laws, there is little ground for passing new ones. Remember, these politicians are for sale, where the currency initially is votes (and later is cold hard cash in their pockets). In 2008, Hillary was talking up her upbringing with guns and hunting, because her opponent was against them (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/04/12/clinton-touts-her-experience-with-guns/). Now, she thinks the opposite opinion will garner more votes.

  2. the left pushes gun control not for crime but for power. my ancestors fought a war against the government and won forming a new state in which the citizens were supposed to be the military to keep the sleaze balls in check forward a few hundred years and the guns are bad and petofiles are in government i did not have sex with (17 year old at time) intern

  3. “Good intentions will always be pleaded for any assumption of power. The Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters.” – Daniel Webster

“Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.” – William Pitt

“I believe that liberty is the only genuinely valuable thing that men have invented, at least in the field of government, in a thousand years. I believe that it is better to be free than to be not free, even when the former is dangerous and the latter safe. I believe that the finest qualities of man can flourish only in free air – that progress made under the shadow of the policeman’s club is false progress, and of no permanent value. I believe that any man who takes the liberty of another into his keeping is bound to become a tyrant, and that any man who yields up his liberty, in however slight the measure, is bound to become a slave.” – H.L. Mencken

  4. Whenever a poll favors the liberals’ views they are considered exceptionally valid without error, but interestingly when a poll conflicts with their views, that poll simply does not exist.

  5. Education is key to understanding that gun bans solve and prevent nothing. The criminal element has been and will be a continuous problem. Bans of any kind solve nothing and the criminals will forever be a part of any culture in any and all countries. The solution to dealing with the criminal element is so head on. In other words. We should take a right and wrong approach to the criminal problem that plagues society. Having said that. I further believe that people must educate themselves to the fact that those who favor any kind of bans where Firearms are concerned must also educate themselves to the fact that TYRANNY is ever present in the our government leadership. There are those who would support the New World Order agenda which will immediately destroy our Constitution and make SUBJECT’S of us all. Individual rights and privileges and freedoms will be lost forever should the New World Order agenda be implemented. We as American Citizens must remain vigilant of Washington leadership. There is no such thing as a honest politician. Once again I say. Educating ones self to the undertakings of Washington leadership is key to remaining a free society.
