Would You Buy Magnum Research’s Desert Eagle Cheetah?

Semiautomatic Desert Eagle pistol in Cheetah print finish

The iconic Desert Eagle has traditionally been available in a number of finishes: stainless steel, titanium, gold, chrome, nickel, or bronze to name a few and now, for a limited time, in a Cheetah print.

“We always have had a tremendous amount of interest among fans of the Desert Eagle every time we introduce a new pattern or finish,” said Frank Harris, VP of Sales of Marketing. “The introduction of the Cheetah print was something our dealers thought would appeal to collectors and also those people who just want a more wild finish on their DE.”

The new Cheetah finish on the Desert Eagle .50 AE and .44 Magnum utilizes a water transfer method. Extensively tested for durability, the finish proves to be very tough; even cleaning solvents and acetone will not soften or damage it. The MSRP on the Cheetah print Desert Eagle is $1793 for either the .50 AE or the .44 Magnum.

The Desert Eagle .50 AE is a gas-operated, semiautomatic pistol with a 7-round capacity in .50 AE and 8-round capacity in .44 Magnum. Both guns measure 10.75 inches in length with a 6-inch barrel, or 14.75 inches with a 10-inch barrel. Slide width is 1.25 inches, height 6.25 inches, and the weight with an empty magazine is approximately 4.4 pounds. It has a trigger reach of 2.75 inches and a sight radius of 8.5 inches with the 6-inch barrel. The Weaver-style accessory rail easily allows for aftermarket optics and scope rings.

The limited-edition Cheetah print Desert Eagle is only available while supplies last. We’re wondering if you would ever consider buying the Cheetah — yea or nay, let us hear from you below.

  1. I currently own 3 Desert Eagles, but there is no way that I would own this gun. Has someone at Magnum Research lost their mind?

  2. I bought my first Desert Eagle about 25 yrs ago it was at that time the only semi auto pistol chambered in that round, the gun is big, its heavy and it goes BANG every time. The technology that IMI came up with to make this gun was it still is today was something that nobody had ever seen in a handgun and it worked great and its still working great today! They can cover this gun in whatever color, pattern, fabric whatever they want I dont care its still the same great handgun it was when it was invented!!

    1. Sorry . Cheaper than Dirt . This is the blog for there customers. They sell most of the stuff they start topics about.

  3. Sorry for using this for my question, but I am unable to find a way to post something new. Can anyone tell my how to do that? I might have an interesting bit on self defense shooting training at home.

    1. On the Shooters log you can not start new topics Only CTD can do so.It is there game there ball there field. Still a good chat with mostly good people. Try a little gentle topic drift. Find a topic that is close and ask a question. Just watch you may have drifted this topic. OK with me.

  4. My eyes may be off but this reads slightly pink not cheetah tan. Put desert sand behind the spots and it might look OK. Don’t take my posts wrong. I would LOVE a D.E. Even the greatest hitters strike out some times.

    1. The older I get the HOTTER Peg gets. Perhaps in a few years my taste in guns will change also. Got to go M.W.C. reruns are on!!!!

  5. Ever see a cheetah in the tall grass? Nope, their camouflaged and thats what I would use this gun for if it were given to me because I cannot afford the 1700+ dollars. just to buy it for novelty, prolly not..

  6. I own a Black DE.50. I am thinking of buying there Stainless model’ I have qualified with my DE.50 for my dept. Now I carry my DE.50 all the time.

  7. Um, NO! Unless I was a cop wearing it in an open holster on my duty belt. Then I guess I’d have to buy it. Oh, wait – it’s seventeen hundred dollars! I guess I’d have to NOT buy it. Which brings us back to NO!

  8. I love my Baby Desert Eagle, but the big brother is just to heavy to shoot reasonably well. The ammo is also too expensive for me. Other than that, it’s quite a hand cannon and not more absurd than the largest of the revolvers I’ve seen. To some, size matters, I guess…

    1. Hit the gym, Wolf. I have two DEs in .357 and .44, and they are a dream to shoot. Accurate, powerful and very little felt recoil.

  9. The only gun you will get is the ones form the decent people and let every thing open for the crook to do what he wants and the people have no protection, because the police cant be every place at once. And one day a ccw person may be able to help protect a officer or a fellow person in trouble. Wake up and smell the roses.

  10. The only advantage I can see to a hand gun in a Cheetah finish is that your assailant would be laughing so hard you may have a leg up.
I am being facetious, of course.
If they are aiming at the female market, I am a female and I wouldn’t buy one in Cheetah.

  11. Because I hate humanity and it’s stupidity, yes…I don’t like that people criticize it, but I love that it gets a rise out of people for being so stupid…seems like a perfect match for me

  12. The AE already screams look at me! Why do this to it? If they gave them away I might take to and try to refinish it. On the plus side unlikely anyone would steal it :-0

  13. No thanks. I bought a brushed chrome 50AE 7 years ago. Basically ended up with an $1,800 paper weight that I had to eventually get a refund on because the damn thing wouldn’t quit jamming.

  14. Ugly? Hell ya. Beautiful? You bet your ass! Nasty ass weapon. Will I buy one? F### yes. Just as soon as I get done with this post.

  15. Good idea for the NRA channel. Have seen pimp my ride, pimp my crib, and others. Now “pimp my gun”.Who would sponsor it? Set it in West Hollywood! (Google west Hollywood) .Even better than Walmart for people watching.

  16. I like the DE’s and if they weren’t to big for my hand I’d have one in ss or blue, but that finish is one that only a pimp in a Hollywood movie could love.

    1. That is by far the most ugliest pimp gun ever made. Just from that scheme of that super ugly spit have now completely lost respect for magnum research.

    2. HAIL YES !! I’d buy it if the price was a little better ! In .50AE it’s bite is like a Cheetahs’ At an auction in little ol’ Kansas last weekend (28FEB15) ….41mag DE went for $1150…44mag DE went for $1275. That makes you suck wind, HUH! They were older parkerized ones too! But smooth and clean.

  17. What a complete waste of perfectly good gun metal. As another responder stated I would only have one if it was given to me and then I would have the finish re-done. Goes beyond gaudy.

  18. While it sounds like none of us would buy one, I know I wouldn’t, we can’t look down on people who would.

A guy named Zoltán Báthory, the founder of the metal band Five Finger Death Punch is an immigrant who grew up in Communist Hungary where he was selected for sniper training. All the guys in the band are patriotic and pro-Second Amendment. They went to Iraq on their own dime to play for the troops (Look up their video ‘Wrong Side of Heaven which supports vets).

    So what’s my point?

They all had custom M4s built, and Zoltan, who loves Ferraris, had one built with a bright red and checkered Ferrari finish. To me, a guy who prefers his guns in basic black, this is a travesty, but to Zoltan (who BTW is a world class fighter and is one of the few civilians certified by the Pentagon and The US Army as an L1 Modern Army Combatives Instructor – Close Quarter Combat, it’s a work of gun art.

So, just because someone has a taste for gaudy guns, don’t think that means anything about how good they are with them. 😉

    1. You hit it on the head, bullet. It’s a business, and if people will buy it, more power to them for providing it. Anything that helps keep good gun producers in business is fine with me, although I’m not going to buy one. 😉

    2. If it will help them put one gun in the hands of a law abiding American,, Isn’t it worth it a try. 🙂

  19. Good Heavens!! I’m very pro second amendment, but I would sooner arm myself with a sling shot than that hideous looking firearm.

  20. I think theywent the wrong direction with the cheetah print covering the entire gun. If they had gone in the direction of 1911’s and just done thegrips it may not have come off so gaudy.

  21. Would…or should I say COULD take one only if they GAVE it to me but then I would spend my last dollar on about 10 coats of Cerakote to rid that beautiful weapon of that horrid cheetah print! What is this world coming to?!
Obama and the rest of the gun grabbers can ease up cuz pretty soon we will be to embarrassed to be seen with them!

  22. 75 and sunny in So Cal. Thought about this a wile ago when cleaning the pool so the grandkids can swim this week end(sorry east coast). This is a California type gun. Probably not legal in Ca But the type our Hiltons or Kardashians would love if it came in a lighter weight type. Perhaps Mr. Kim Kardashian could use it in his new video?

  23. We own two Desert Eagles, and they are beautiful guns. But, no, I would not buy the Cheetah, and neither would my wife, who hates pink “girlie” guns.

If other people like them, then go for it. But to me, a gun should be a gun, not a modern art statement.

  24. WHY????!!!!

    MOLON LABE–PLEASE!!

(why F… up a fine gun?) This is the sort of c–p third world leaders do to there AKs!

There have to be some good jokes or puns in this!

  25. If I could talk to a GunSmith who had confidence that he could get that horrid Cheetah print OFF that 50AE pistol and get it back to a likeable ‘ Blue ‘ or ‘ Black ‘ frame/slide coloration – – – then YES ! I’d take it !! !! Might give a couple hundred bucks for it too ! ! !

  26. hideous, no way i would pay for that hideous ridiculous looking handgun all they did was turn a very nice pistol into an ugly duckling ,very ugly at that is the dumbest thing i have ever seen mag research do .i will stick with my black mkXlX 44 mag that thing is hideous may obama would but it he is a kenyan lol. hideous ,JMHO.

  27. I wouldn’t buy that with your money. The boat anchor is reason enough not to jut it but the print makes it entirely laughable.

    1. I wouldn’t buy it with his money if I got his money through someone else…. If I got it free I would trade it or sell it.

  28. I own a black 50AE. I think the cheetah version is ridiculous, unless you have a fetish for African safaris or cats.

And yes, I would love the stainless version as well, but it isn’t in the cards for me right now. There are other gun-related purchasing goals that are higher priority.

    1. FETISH— THAT’S IT ! Might work in some music video. Not rely a gun, not rely music!

  29. Cheeatah print is one that may appeal to some groups but not to me…thank you…
The stainless .50AE is what I am interested in….I do own one in Blued….great weapon…
