Midwest Industries MI-SSK-12 KeyMod Handguard

When VLTOR’s general manager developed the slim lined KeyMod rail system, he had high hopes of it becoming industry standard. Judging by the newest AR-15s and accessories—the KeyMod system is well on its way.

Midwest Industries (MI) recently released its MI-SSK one-piece, free-float KeyMod handguards. Currently, Cheaper Than Dirt! carries the 12-inch handguard—actual length is 12.625 inches—with more lengths on the way. This solidly built, 6061 aluminum hard-coat anodized dehorned handguard makes for a flawless, comfortable-to-grip finish.

Highlights of the MI SSK-KeyMod handguard include its 1.5-inch slim diameter and 8.5-ounce weight. With the handguard comes MI’s proprietary barrel nut, wrench and one rail. With five built-in quick detach, anti-rotation sling sockets and 12 KeyMod slots there is plenty of room to fit all of your accessories. The SSK-KeyMod fits a mid-length gas system with micro gas block.

Stayed tuned for 9, 10.5 and 15-inch handguards in black and FDE, until then, get the 12-inch here.

Browe Sport (BSO) Optic

One of the more innovative optics we have seen in a long time is the Browe Sport (BSO) illuminated dot sight designed specifically for AR-15 rifles.

One of the more innovative optics is the Browe Sport (BSO) illuminated dot sight designed specifically for AR-15 rifles. The green and blue illuminated reticles on the Browe BSO do not require any type of battery to glow. Due to its Rechargeable Illumination Technology (RIT), the illuminated reticle will charge via any light source. Fifteen seconds from a high-intensity flashlight will give the reticle hours of illumination. Without a charge, the reticle is standard black for day use.

All Browe Sport models feature a 4x magnification and a 32mm objective. The solid billet 6061-T6 aluminum housing surrounds the SCHOTT glass lens that has a broadband antireflective coating. All models are fog proof, waterproof to 130 feet and made in the USA.

Four FLIR Precision Optics etched mirrored reticles and three caliber combinations are available: chevron, crosshair, ring and dot and horseshoe and dot calibrated for 5.56mm NATO, 7.62 NATO and .300 Blackout. Each unit has a 36.8 feet field of view at 100 yards and weighs 415 grams with an A.R.M.S. 34mm mount attached.
Note: Mount is not included.

Gorilla Ammunition

Watch out for new kid on the block, Gorilla Ammunition. Its .223 Remington, .300 Blackout and .308 Winchester loads are getting the highest of praise from every shooter across the country. In fact, in a Guns America test, Gorilla .223 outperformed Hornady Match, Fiocchi and even Black Hills Colt ammo in accuracy.

Gorilla Ammo procures its bullets from Hornady, Nosler and Sierra and uses only new brass from Lake City, polished to shiny perfection and laser-inspected six times for dimension consistency in every round. Even though the company’s products are limited, you will find the .223 Remington in 55-grain Sierra BlitzKing bullet perfect for predator hunting and in 69-grain and 77-grain for target shooting. However, the most popular Gorilla load is its .300 BLK subsonic, specifically optimized to use with a suppressor.

Just Right Carbine 9mm Luger Semiautomatic Rifle

Picture shows a black AR-15 style rifle made by Just Right Carbine that shoots 9mm ammo.
This Just Right Carbine shoots 9mm ammo and operates on a simple blowback operation, like many semiautomatic handguns.

If it looks like an AR-15 and it feels like an AR-15, then it must… wait a second. This black rifle might just fool you—formed in 2009 this company from New York builds AR-15 rifles in pistol calibers. This Just Right Carbine shoots 9mm ammo and operates on a simple blowback operation, like many semiautomatic handguns. What is cool about the Just Right Carbine is it utilizes the standard M4 trigger, buffer tube, and furniture, but uses any 9mm GLOCK magazine. For those of you who like keeping your guns in the same family, these Just Right Carbines are perfect. If 9mm isn’t what you carry, the Just Right Carbine comes in .40 S&W and .45 ACP configurations, as well.

All of the rifles from JRC come almost fully ambidextrous. The bolt and ejection are configurable to either right- or left-handed shooters. Further, if you want the 9mm, but later feel the need to switch, the rifle is easily convertible to other pistol calibers. On this particular model, there is a six-position M4 collapsible buttstock and free-float handguard with Picatinny rail on top. Machined from aerospace-grade 6061 T-6 aluminum, the receiver has a hard coat anodized finish.

If you are familiar with AR-15s, the 9mm JRC will feel and handle much like your rifle. It is simple, reliable and accurate—even when dry. In fact, Just Right tells owners it needs very little lubrication to operate. The JRC has a 17-inch lightweight threaded barrel just whispering for a suppressor, is 30.25 inches with the stock collapsed and weighs a mere 6.5 pounds.
