2012 SHOT Show Special Report: CMMG .308

CMMG showed off their latest .308 configuration at the 2012 SHOT Show. The lower takes Magpul Pmags or DPMS/SR-25 magazines. As an aside, I heard a rumor that Armalite has conceded in the AR-10 magazine design war and is going to offer versions of their rifles using this magazine well design, which has become more popular in recent years. The forend on this gun has a chunk of rail mounted at the bottom and very front of it, so I’m guessing chunks of rail could be attached anywhere you like using the vent holes. The upper receiver has a dust cover to keep debris out of the action and a brass deflector for left-handed shooting, but no forward assist. Personally this is exactly how I want it, as I find the deflector and dust door quite useful and the forward assist pretty useless. The A2 flash hider, pistol grip, and M4 style collapsible stock are all pretty standard fare, but those pieces and the lack of sights make me think that this .308 may be more affordable than tricked out versions mounting expensive hardware everywhere. You should be able to get into a basic .308 from CMMG for less and then customize it over time if you want to throw more money at it, or just put the extra funds towards a great scope and more ammo to train with!
