Remington Makes Several Military/LE Products Commercially Available

By Woody published on in Firearms

Remington Arms Company has announced that certain Remington Defense products formerly reserved to military units and LE agencies are now available to civilian consumers. The initial Defense offerings are the Remington Gas Piston Carbine R4GP, the R4e Enhanced Carbine, sniper rifle Models PSR and MSR, and the M2010 Sniper Rifle, the U.S. Army’s replacement for the M24. Prices weren’t immediately available.

The R4 RGP’s monolithic upper receiver can drop in on M4/M16-series lower receivers without modification. The gas-piston operating system allows for suppressed and unsuppressed fire without a regulator, and Remington claims it is easier to maintain than gas-impingement offerings. The short-stroke piston design features a self-aligning op rod and disassembles forward, without the use of tools. Components include Remington’s Monolithic Free Floating Modular Tube, Magpul ACS stock, and the 51T AAC Flash Hider Adapter.

Key features on the Remington Defense R4E Enhanced Carbine include a billet lower with ambi QD cups, selector, mag catch, and bolt catch; a hammer-forged 4150 CM steel barrel with Melonite treatment; Mil-Spec M16 bolt carrier and receiver extension; a 7075-T6 RAHG handguard with steel threaded inserts, and a Geissele match trigger.

Winner of the US SOCOM PSR competition and type-classified as the Mk21, Remington’s MSR/PSR rifles (Modular Sniper Rifle and Precision Sniper Rifle, respectively) come as packages with interchangeable barrels chambered in .308 Win, .300 Win Mag, and .338 Lapua Magnum and are said to allow user changes in less than a minute. They all have right-folding adjustable buttstocks. The PSR doesn’t come with the Leupold MK4 M5 reticle riflescopes that come with the MSR rifles. The actions are machined billet titanium receivers with ambi bolt releases and are topped with 20-MOA full-length monolithic top rails.

Remington was awarded the U.S. M2010 Army Enhanced Sniper Rifle (ESR) contract in September 2010 to reconfigure its M24 Sniper Weapon Systems. The M24 and subsequent M2010 are based on the Model 700 and 40-X designs. The action is a TriNyte-coated titanium alloy with an ambi bolt release seated into a Remington Accessory Chassis System (RACS) stock. There’s a ferric-nitro carburized finish on barrel, receiver, and bolt for maximum life and corrosion resistance. A 20-MOA full-length monolithic top rail provides a customizable optics-mounting platform. The buttstock is right folding and is adjustable for cheek height, LOP, and buttpad height. The silencer is an AAC Titan QD model.

Remington’s Defense Division has its own research and development engineers as well as its own dedicated unit of manufacturing personnel, who do not perform any other work at Remington except for their Defense Division duties. Many of these operators and armorers are former U.S. Special Operations personnel who brainstorm, build, and sell these weapon systems domestically and to allied nations around the world.

Awesome is correct….the least expensive rifle is nearly 3 grand…the most expensive…with all the bells and whistles…ie…308, 338 and 300 BO (interchangeable) with suppressor and scope goes for over $30,000.00. Bring a very fat wallet.
