Reader Comments of the Week — December 30, 2017

By Dave Dolbee published on in General

Even regular readers of The Shooter’s Log can’t read or respond to all of the comments, so we have started a new weekly feature that will recap a sampling of the most active, interesting, or on occasion, randomly selected comments from the previous weeks. Feel free to respond with your two cents at the bottom of this article or by clicking the story link and adding it directly to the discussion.

This week’s Reader Comments is a little different. About a week ago, The Shooter’s Log let readers know about the Trump order to release 100,000 military 1911s over the next 10 years. You responded with a lot of 1911 love and over 1,300 comments!

I own several guns and have shot many. Although I’ve heard that 1911s are awesome guns I’ve never shot one. It’d be great to own one. Please let me know when they go on sale. Thanks.

Great, an even more intrusive federal registry. They’re not even trying to hide the fact that there will be a permanent record of the transaction now, which is, indeed, a federal registry, and is unConstitutional.

They have shooting clubs set up at the Fort, for both the Pistol and M1 Grands, and you can basically build your own weapon! I have a friend that shoots in one of the clubs with the Grands, I’ll try to fing out what I can!

I ‘grew up’ on the 1911 in the 60s and 70s while an Infantry officer. I have a modern, fancy version of the 1911, but would love to get one of the original versions. Let me know.

By the Numbers: America’s Top 5 Revolvers

Hope this privilege to own one of these military veteran 1911 pistols… I hope that it actually happens in my lifetime & isn’t a myth like the WWII Willy’s jeeps for $100.oo some time back… also hope that the application process is fair & equal to all FFL dealers

I am a Vietnam Vet and carried one in Vietnam. Very interested in owning one, but I do not live anywhere near where there is a CMP program, so this is so very unfair to a lot of us. I have been through the CC program. Does that count?
