Are You Prepared for Imminent Terrorist Attacks on U.S. Soil?

By Dave Dolbee published on in Camping & Survival, News

September is National Preparedness Month, and by now we should all have supplies ready for a hurricane, earthquake, flood, tornado or any other natural disaster that could happen. However, recent news events suggest the biggest threat on the horizon may not be natural at all.Instead, it will be much more sinister and perhaps deadly. The following is a synopsis of news and intelligence reports that suggest we need to prepare for something much worse than Mother Nature. After reading, leave a comment with your thoughts of what people need to do to prepare for the fallout from a terrorist attack.

What type of preparedness do you need? Body armor will not do you much good against a tornado, but spare water and a weather radio will not help against a home invasion.

According to news reports and a handful of independent intelligence sources, credible information has reached Saudi, British and Australian agencies that two al Qaeda branches—IS in Iraq and Syria and al Qaeda AP in Yemen—have finalized plans for coordinated terrorist attacks around the 13th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. According to counterterrorism sources, the groups are preparing to strike simultaneously in the Middle East and a West European city. Next, they will go for U.S. targets either in the Middle East, Europe or here in the states.

Secure Borders?

According to Judicial Watch, high-level federal law enforcement, intelligence and other sources have confirmed that a warning bulletin for an imminent terrorist attack on the border has been issued. Judicial Watch reported that Islamic terrorist groups are operating in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez and are planning to attack the United States with car bombs or other vehicle-born improvised explosive devices (VBIED). Accordingly, it reported that Fort Bliss was named as a target and several sources have confirmed an increased security measures at the base.

Will the attack come on 9/11 or …?

More recently, new intelligence started contradicting earlier reports and suggesting the attacks on the U.S. homeland may take place in the weeks following 9/11. According to Islamist experts, ISIS and AQAP have decided to delay direct terrorist action in the United States. The general consensus was a calculation that an attack on America will have a greater shock impact some time after the first cycle of outrages from attacks abroad, toward the end of 2014 or early 2015. This would prolong the pain, but also makes it harder for U.S. Forces and law enforcement to remain alert for such a prolonged period of time.

Much of the latest assessment came after Saudi King Abdullah warned the West that Al Qaeda’s plans were imminent. “If neglected, I am certain that after a month they will reach Europe and, after another month, America,” the king firmly and flatly stated.

The king issued his warning on the occasion of the U.S. Ambassador Joseph Westphal’s formal presentation of credentials. Normally, this might not seem significant, however there is a backstory. The Ambassador has been in place for about two years, so it is odd that the king is suddenly getting around to asking for his credentials. Instead, it is believed the request for credentials was an excuse to hand over the intelligence under formal-facing channels. The United States’ ties are not as strong with the Saudi’s as they were during the Bush administration or even in 2009 when President Obama allegedly bowed to the Saudi king. (Allegedly only because the White House vehemently denied what the rest of the world clearly seemed to observe.)

Have you invested in a quality tactical medic’s course? Is something beyond a butterfly bandage and CPR training necessary?

International Response

European leaders certainly seem to be taking the warnings seriously enough. The prime ministers of Britain and Australia, David Cameron and Tony Abbott, appear particularly concerned with the Saudi king’s warnings since Saudi intelligence shares the view that a great number of lives are at stake if Al Qaeda consummates its plans and Europe is slated to be the first to get hit.

U.S. intelligence and counterterrorism sources have shown agreement by disclosing that the data on the two Al Qaeda groups’ plans to mark the 9/11 anniversary with major attacks has been in the hands of Middle Eastern, European and U.S. security agencies since at least the second week of May 2014. However, President Obama’s recent admission as to the lack of a plan to deal with ISIS abroad casts doubt over the resources dedicated or in place to handle this particular threat of an attack here at home.

Prime Minister Cameron has taken preliminary steps to combat the danger to his country by asking parliament to urgently approve sweeping legislation to combat the “scourge of extremism.” These efforts would include the power to seize the passports of an estimated 500 British Muslims known to be frequent travelers to Turkey, Syria and Iraq and who are strongly suspected of identifying with Al Qaeda’s jihadist ideology.

Most counterterrorism experts fear that these measures if approved would come too late to pre-empt Al Qaeda’s 9/11 anniversary plot. Do you believe it is too late to ‘close the barn doors’ here at home and prevent an attack as well? Given the current state of our borders, is a seized passport sufficient to prevent terrorists from entering the U.S.?

Make a Plan

September is National Preparedness Month and while large coordinated attacks are of major concern, smaller lone wolf-style attacks are more likely to affect each of us in a way that we can adequately prepare to prevent or minimize. Here is a basic list of items everyone should already have, but what are your thoughts regarding an imminent terrorist attack sometime over the next three months? What would you add to the list in preparation against the imminent threat of a terrorist attack such as firearms, ammunition, gas masks, protective clothing, medications?

If successfully attempted or carried out, do you think an attack would be a small-scale local event like the Boston Marathon bombings or something larger such as an attack on the electrical grid or water supplies? What supplies or preparations do you think are necessary for an active shooter situation or mass casualty?

Add your suggestions and ideas and lists in the comment section and we will compile and publish them for the entire community.

I’d like to respond to the questions asked in the article above.

I live in the Fort Worth/Dallas area. For those who haven’t been here, it is called “The Metroplex” for a good reason. It is an area about 90 miles wide and about 40 miles deep and counting the adjacent counties contain near 3.5 million people.

In the middle of this population one can find fields of grain, hay, and cows scattered throughout the metroplex with, in one case, an automobile factory next door. There are a few lakes in and surrounding areas for water as well as public enjoyment. There are also many miles of multiple-lane highways that connect the main business areas.

One item of note is the large number of universities/colleges and that the area is declared an “aerospace” hub. It has the only active fighter factory in the USA. It also has the biggest and busiest commercial airfield in the country (D/FW).

My opinion is that we are easy pickings for VBIED. I-35 north is already a bottleneck so a vehicle could pick a number of places that would shut down the only north/south interstate used by almost all of Texas based
freight. The lakes are all accessible by traffic and so to a “dirty” truck.

As the size of this area is large and “roomy” as Texas it’s also an island sitting alone on the Texas prairie. Outside the metro area there is miles of sweet bloody nothing; a small ranching village here and there is all that breaks the monotony of a long swift drive on a hyway or a narrow country road.

I have painted a simple view that could suggest a number of scenarios. It won’t take a rocket scientist to come up with something nasty, but a genius to plan to prevent all possible ones.

Desperate situations bring out desperate people.

I’ve already told the wife not to tell ANYONE and that includes neighbors, family… NADA!!!

My view is this… Failure on someone else’s part to access, evaluate and prepare for worse case scenarios dose not require me to bail their butts out.

So I’ve told the wife not to tell anyone about our plans… Food… Weapons… If something does happen probably in 7-14 days will be the most important/dangerous period of time.

Those who least prepared will start to seek hand outs from neighbors. As soon as you oblige the first time they’ll be back again and again.

You’ll have to say No the first time or your going to regret it. If not you might as well hand everything over from the get go and then you’ll be the one’s left with nothing.

Hard fact of life. But it’s reality.

Best to combine resources with “like minded friends & neighbors”. Do not casually brag about your preparedness like food storage and weapons to anyone not in your prepper circle. The unprepared will flock to your door and tough choices have to be made about your own families well being. The governement imbecils will not see you as being prepared,.. but as “hoarding” and want to take your hard earned resources. Its an old military cliche,… but still hold merit; “Loose lips sinks ships”. A crisis and desperation brings out the worst in people, your unprepared neighbors included.

When it comes to being prepared for an attack the most likely point will be your TV or Radio and the propaganda from the most dangerous and sinister group on earth- the US Government. Turn off the TV and radio use some common sense to see the world around and know that if we are less safe today it is because of 100 years of US intervention and empire building.

    • Joe

Really? Is that why they started what became the crusades? Because of American intervention?
These people seek to kill all who do not share their beliefs and their god.
They consider us the great satan because of the freedom we have to worship and live however we like.
      Know your enemy.

    Hence the definition of terror.

    Amen brother Amen!!!

Steve Google it again. The thing went on for three days with over 1,000
casualties, 300+ dead and 700+ wounded. They have seen how we come unglued with a “normal” school shooting, a Beslan level event would be soul crushing. They need not reinvent the wheel, they already have the blue print. Read William Forstchen’s “Day of Wrath”. It’s just out
and it’s a real page turner. Nothing much has changed. Schools are still among the “softest” of targets.

    • Steve Cullen

Living in and free and open society allows many many “soft targets” way beyond just schools…

Far more than one can imagine without really doing an assessment.

Is there any way to really harden them up??? Probably not unless one is willing to move away from “free and open” concept and have all kinds of check points put into place.

Keep in mind what we think are the obvious locations may n fact not be what the radicals are looking at.

Those guys are sitting around thinking, planning looking and then re-planning their ideas over and over again and again before the set them in motion.

Is there any means/ways/ideas of being 100% or even 95% secure????

      Probably not…..

  • Steve Cullen

I recall that event… Russian special ops went in and basically cleaned house…

What I think and I’m just a dummy so don’t hold what I think /say as being accurate…

But what ever happens will be something totally off the radar… Off the wall and something that the conventional “planners” aren’t even considering.

Box cutters and commercial planes turned into missiles weren’t consider prior to 9/11…

These guys are going to come up with some ideas /plans that will be totally off the radar but will have the maximum effects to take down the operational capacity of our government /nation…

That in turn will cause mass civil unrest which will last for months… Then they’ll be able to just come walking in and basically “mop up” if they can…

However there are a ton of people who are stocking up “just in case”…

    Not everyone… Not the majority… But enough that won’t go down w/o a fight….

  • bob

The eaisest to do and most psycologically devestating scenerio would be something along the lines of the Beslan school massacre carried out in southern Russia by Chechen terrorists a dacade ago. I urge you to Google it. As bad as Sandyhook was, Beslan was worse than every school shooting you ever heard of put together. A half dozen Beslans going off at once would paralize the country. All commerce would cease and all law enofocement would go to schools leaving us in WROL.

  • Hank Alvarez

What I really fear is an atomic or biological attack and the sieve that is our southern border makes that a real probability. I expect to look north east some morning and see a bright flash of light, hear a clap of thunder and see a mushroom cloud rising over Los Angeles.

The opening line form a book called “STOCKADE,” by Jack Pearl was: “If you see a bright flash of light, sit down where you are and pull your knees up to your chest. Stick your head between you legs and kiss your ass goodbye because that’s an atomic bomb!” You’re dead and a strong biological agent could do the same thing. I read that book in the early 60’s and the line was used by many of the instructors at the ABC schools in the Marine Corps.

When it happens it won’t surprise me because we and the idiots we’ve elected for the last thirty years have been too busy taking care of everybody else in the world but not ourselves. If you’re not a prepper you should be and like we used to say, “I’ve got mine buddy, how are you doing?”

  • Steve Cullen

The “primary events” will be bad, but it’s what comes afterwards that I see to be of greater concern…

Initial action will be not conventional “battle”… But it will be something that will cut the legs out of our society and that in turn will throw everything into complete & total dysfunction….

That’s going to be the issue /problem…

Once that happens then we’ll be easy pickings for the” bad guys”…

They have to somehow “collapse” our “system… They have to cut our” pillars of strength ” before they can over take us…
