Kelly Bachand is young, still in his early 20s, but he’s made quite a name for himself as a long range rifle shooter.
There are a number of great shotguns available and each has its own benefits. One of the main tactical advantages of the Mossberg 500 shotgun is the position of the shell lifter. When considering a shotgun for home defense, the position of the shell lifter can make a big difference in your ability to perform a tactical reload if necessary.
John Moses Browning’s iconic 1911 pistol is one of the most well known and widely recognized handguns ever produced. It served in the US Military for well over 70 years, and many insist that it is still a superior handgun even today.
Only after you have mastered your chosen rifle, and thoroughly ensured the reliability of your system, should you begin to worry about your defensive ammunition selection. Most of us would be better off practicing with what we have at hand than worrying about what ammunition to use. You should know you (the shooter), your rifle, your ammunition and what it can accomplish before considering yourself prepared for the defensive use of your rifle.
It’s hard to miss his big cowboy hat and wide grin. Denny Chapman is quite the character, and if you hadn’t heard of him before now, you’ve probably seen him on the new reality TV show “Top Shot” on the History Channel.
Denny was kind enough to take a few minutes out of his day to talk to us about his background in the shooting sports and how he came upon the cowboy mounted shooting sports.
For a new shooter, finding a gun that they like can be a daunting task. Many new shooters want the mythical “perfect gun,” one that carries 30 rounds of ammunition, is small, lightweight with very little recoil, and chambered in a caliber that can stop an attack with a single shot. Such a gun, to my knowledge, does not exist.
If you’ve been following the reality TV shot “Top Shot” on the History channel, you probably saw that Caleb Giddings was eliminated after going head to head against Adam Benson following a drama filled episode. Caleb was gracious enough to take a few minutes and talk to us about his experience and give us some insights into the show.

Dave Sevigny is well known as one of the best shooters on the Steel Challenge, GSSF, and IDPA circuits. His speed is incredible, and his smooth, flawless transitions unparalleled. He developed his competitive spirit playing hockey as a child growing up in the Northeast. Given his skill on the ice, it’s no surprise that the quick reflexes and fancy footwork he gained there have helped him rise to become a 5 division Grand Master in the USPSA.
Todays guest post is by Caleb Giddings from Gun Nuts Media. Caleb is the 2009 Indiana State IDPA champion, as well as a Steel Challenge Revolver Division Champion. We interviewed him some time ago and part of our discussion was on the topic of physical fitness, exercise, and the role it plays in helping top level shooters get and stay fast.

What is “corrosive” ammunition? Corrosive ammunition is ammunition that uses a primer that has chemicals that when ignited leave a residue of corrosive salts. Most often these primers have potassium chlorate, or sodium petrochlorate which, when burned, decompose into potassium chloride or sodium chloride. Sharp-eyed readers will note that sodium chloride is also known as common table salt.
It is an argument that has been around for decades. Which is the better rifle platform, Eugene Stoner’s AR-15/M16 or Mikhail Kalishnikov’s AK-47? Police and military forces around the world use both extensively, and the two platforms have been head-to-head against each other in various military conflicts for nearly 50 years. Still, each seems to shine in its own particular way.
The US Supreme Court today handed down a groundbreaking decision ruling that the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution applies to the States and local governments, prohibiting them from enacting laws which infringe on a person’s 2nd Amendment rights. In the decision, the Majority ruled that the Due Process clause of the 14th amendment does not allow a person’s right to keep and bear arms to be infringed upon without a trial. Justices Breyer, Ginsburg and Sotomayor dissented, along with Stevens who dissents for himself. Justice Alito was joined in the Majority opinion by Roberts, Scalia, Kennedy, with Thomas joining with his own dissenting opinion.
Recently I had the opportunity to head out into the woods and do some squirrel hunting. Hunting squirrels in the summer is much more difficult than in the winter, as they have a ton of lush green foliage to hide behind. Still, I managed to take six of the little guys and quickly set about dressing and cleaning them.
