NRA Women Presents “Love at First Shot”

By CTD Lady Blogger published on in News

Public ranges can be overwhelming to the first-time female shooter, as they can often be crowded, loud and intimidating. Throughout this season of “Love At First Shot,” Natalie Foster of Girl’s Guide to Guns helps to answer some of the most common questions that women have when they head to the shooting range for the first time.

Natalie answers questions like:

What do you wear? Natalie stresses the importance of having everything covered to protect yourself from empty shell casings that can be quite hot.

What to expect? From the counter to the range, LAFS walks the first-timer through all of the necessary protection needed for eyes and ears and safety rules for handling a firearm.

What should you look for when choosing a gun to rent or buy? Natalie breaks down the best choices for handguns for women who are just starting out.

Look out for appearances and interviews with many of Natalie’s friends in the industry, such as Tina Wilson-Cohen of She Can Shoot and Julie Golob, professional markswoman, competition shooter, and world champion.

Many women are nervous to pull the trigger for the first time—but the most important message that “Love At First Shot” wants to share is to keep an open mind and just give it a try!

I have exposed several females to shooting including my own wife and daughter. Most of them were certainly apprehensive, but definitely excited to try it. I provided the firearms, ammo, targets, and access to my club range. This has resulted in my wife, neighbor’s wife, and a couple of others actually going as far as getting their state CCW permits.

I find it extremely empowering and quite sexy for a woman to be able to handle a firearm, use it competently, and if need be defend herself. I will be anxiously awaiting each future episode!

Every woman should know how to defend themselves with a fire arm.

I am often the man who introduces females to the world of self protection in my area.

To take a timid woman from being a potential victim to empowered Modern day Warrior Princess is priceless.

I start them out with the small calibers and watch as they out grow the smaller calibers until they find the maximum caliber that they are comfortable with and it brings me great joy to know that I have helped create one less female victim in the world.

Once a woman feels comfortable with the idea and skills needed to steer their own destiny and take responsibility for their own security it is like watching an Eagle take flight, “Breath taking and Deadly” at the same time.

Learning how to shoot properly is the most liberating skill any young Woman could learn and it does effect the quality of their lives permanently in a positive way.
