Massive New Gun Taxes Proposed

The bill would also increase the transfer tax on all weapons (except antique guns) covered under the National Firearms Act (which excludes most common guns) from $200 to $500 and index to inflation and increase the transfer tax for any other weapon from $5 to $100.

pascrell-editedThe “Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act,” a bill sponsored by William Pascrell, D-NJ, and Danny Davis, D-IL., would nearly double the current 11 percent tax on handguns, while raising the levy on bullets and cartridges from 11 to 50 percent.

Said Rep. Pascrell, co-Chair of the House Law Enforcement Caucus and member of the Ways and Means Committee, “It has been well over two decades since tax rates were last adjusted on firearms and ammunition, and I believe it is appropriate that we look to these taxes as a way to direct additional resources to law enforcement, background checks and gun violence research.”

The lawmakers say the bill would generate $600 million per year, which they claim would be used to fund law-enforcement and gun violence prevention. The bill would exempt all federal, state and local agencies, including police departments, from paying the tax.

“What the anti-gun interests can’t ban, they want to tax it out of existence,” Alan Gottlieb, chairman for the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, told FoxNews.com. “It’s nothing more than confiscatory taxation.”

The bill includes the following provisions:

  • Increase in federal excise tax on handguns (both pistols and revolvers) from 11% to 20%
  • Increase in federal excise tax on ammunition from 11% to 50%
  • Increase in NFA tax (pre-’86 autos, SBRs, suppressors, etc.) from $200 to $500
  • Increase in NFA AOW tax from $5 to $100
  • Increase in special (occupational) tax for importers, manufacturers, and dealers
  • Adds semiautomatic pistols “chambered for cartridges commonly considered rifle rounds, configured with receivers commonly associated with rifles and capable of accepting detachable magazines” to the list of items taxable as NFA items (26 USC § 5845)

H.R. 3018: Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act of 2013

John Lott Jr: It must be obvious to everyone now that since Democrats can’t completely ban guns, they want to tax them out of existence.

Actually…98% of the gun-owning Americans don’t pay attention, don’t speak-out, don’t protest and won’t fight. So long as the beer is cold and the NFL is on TV, all is well.

Hmmmmm…taxes that are so onerous that firearms owners will refuse to purchase ammo? If this were ever to pass, I (for one) would risk becoming a felon by purchasing such high-tax articles on the street at a lower price. The federal government never learns. They have tried to outlaw meth, marijuana, cocaine and other high-demand drugs by merely passing laws prohibiting their sale, and where has it gotten them?

It is time that conservative politicians grow a pair and begin to scream their heads off in Congress, and that we refuse to purchase products from sponsors who advertise on liberal news media, and that we let those media know why. Unless we get off our backsides and INDIVIDUALLY put pressure on our reps, whether they are conservative, moderate or far-left, those politicians who try to pull this crap will continue on the same course. California is a prime example of the insanity, with New York and Illinois not far behind.

It’s simply all about the Free Money their Mouths are watering over so they can fund their pet projects. Pad their Pension funds, keep there free Govt. cars, and Gold Mastercards for expenses; and Luxury Vacations to Europe. I could go on and on–about this. Or, steal more stamps from the Congressional Post Office. Well, we know who did that don’t we. Slap on wrist, then ; $50,000.00 a Pop Seminar Circuit.

It’s time to vote every politician out that opposes the 2nd amendment. They want to kill people by legislation. I stated before, if these politicians concern about deaths, they need to look at the health issues we have in our country because it kills 10th of millions every year. Citizens need to have self defense against crime and even their own government. The 2nd amendment as I stated before is the skeleton which all constitutional law flesh on. Without the 2nd amendment, people will not have their freedom and you will see government conduct illegal activities against its citizens even killing them. Law keeping citizens are now branded as bad guys when the criminals are the ones committed crimes. These politicians are not make regulations to stop violence, they want to oppress and suppress the people and using language to deceive people. Don’t be fooled people, the day they take your bullets and firearms away is the day your freedom will be taken away also eventually. These politians must be voted out. Much more to say on the subject.

    You Don’t Matter!

Having grown-up in a “grass-roots” political environment I’ve come to learn a lot about the unique motivations of our elected office holders. The Second Amendment was of paramount significance in my childhood, and continues as such to this day.

At age 11 (1972), I could engage an “Anti-gunner” in debate and feel confident that the Constitution was not and is not a misleading, antiquated or fraudulent document, as it appeared to many of the Antis in my surroundings.

My first “big learn” about some scary motivations came one day in the 7th grade. I was chatting with a substitute teacher who also happened to be a town Cop. I decided to get the “gun debate” rolling and then we went at it in calm, cool, discussions surrounding dramatically aggressive Massachusetts Gun Control legislation.

The TeacherCop was squarely Anti-gun and embraced the horrid new laws and proposals. All my NRA-like facts, all my “God-given rights to protection”…all my 11-year-old logic abruptly met this guy’s trump card. He ended the debate with “hey…I’m a Cop, so I’ll always have a gun, so I don’t really care about the Second Amendment.” He confirmed – rather coldly – all my fears and concerns. They were all true and they were looking right at me with a smirk on his face.

Seeing what is going on today with legislation, executive orders and arbitrary administrative regulations, I am reminded of “our” significance. We “gun-people” are not desirable to many people. We serve no purpose in the eyes of politicians and regulators. We will never vote for them or send them campaign contributions…we’ll never suggest that our extended family vote for them over some other guy. We are simply not of any consequence to “them.” We are an annoyance. We act as barriers and noisy resistance. We simply do not matter to these people.

You’ll notice something these days (I hope you already have seen it quite clearly)…WE, the defenders of the Second Amendment, are the only category of Americans with any spoken desire to preserve and protect The Constitution.

I’ve yet to find any members of the liberal media who will speak kindly of The Constitution at all. They never (seemingly) feel strongly about anything the Constitution declares as steadfast American doctrine and values. Even when the First Amendment is attacked and ignored in their special world, they nearly choke on words relating to that “horrid document of the Neanderthal population.”

So I have recently concluded that all the wacky, Constitutionally-defiant Draconian attacks we keep enduring are doing exactly what “they” want. They want us weak, tired, criminally defiant and possibly dead. Gun round-ups or long registration lines are amusing events of literally zero consequence to these people. Only “WE” feel the pain. Only WE fear for our Nation and our children. OH!…and those Veterans and their families simply need to be “filtered out” of the road to real progress. The martini-sippers in State Houses and DC are seemingly saying “Those Veterans” are easy targets for gun regulations and they have some strange attachment to that ‘Constitution’ garbage.”” Those “gun-club people” and “those home-schooler types”…that dreadful “religious bunch”…they all need to GO away!

And then… the Governor of New York simply came out and said those words! Go! Get out! NY does not need you nor want your type.

And I think back on that TeacherCop’s formula of justification and comfort. “Hey…it matters not! Any of ‘those people’ whom are upset mean noting to my voter base.”
