Cheap Red Dot-Green Dot Sight for Your Plinker

By Suzanne Wiley published on in Reviews

If you’re a black rifle type guy or gal then you probably already have or plan to have an AR-15 chambered for .22 Long Rifle or a .22 Long Rifle conversion kit. We all know the benefits of owning one for plinking and target shooting—shooting more and spending less!

There is no reason to spend a trillion dollars on a high-end red dot for your plinker, especially if you can find one that works for a lot cheaper.

The first time I shot the S&W M&P 15-22, it had an EOTech red dot on it. Now that I am in the market for my own red dot on my own S&W M&P 15-22, it pains me to think about spending the same amount of money on my optic as I did the actual gun. So I came across the UTG CQB red/green dot sight and thought I would give it a go.

The UTG CQB sight has a red or green four MOA illuminated dot. There are five intensity levels for each the red and the green. You adjust the brightness setting by turning the top-mounted illumination wheel. The unique design allows you to go straight to green or straight to red without having to go through all brightness levels of the other color.

I tested the sight outside this bright and sunny morning, and every intensity level of both red and green were sufficient from 100 yards away. I really like red/green dot sights because you can aim with both eyes open and hitting your target is quicker and easier than just using your iron sights. In my case, when knocking down steel, reactive targets, quick repeated hits are more fun than misses are. A dot sight helps you achieve this.

The UTG CQB red/green dot sight has a built-in, check-detach mount for Picatinny or Weaver rails. Installation is a breeze and UTG provides an Allen wrench to lock it down so it doesn’t wobble. It also includes flip-open lens caps to protect your lenses.

The lenses are emerald-coated for maximum clarity. The single dot sight provides a large field of view and an unlimited eye relief. It is also shock-proof, fog proof, and rainproof.

Tested for heavy recoil, insures you will have no problems with mounting it on your .22LR. For this price, you get a good little red/green dot sight and as long as you don’t drop it, you’ll have a decent optic for your trusty plinker.
