Can We Stop the Ban on Russian 7N6 5.45×39?

In 1993, Olympic Arms created what they claim was only a prototype of an AR-15 pistol chambered in 7.62x39mm, the model OA-93. When word got out they were developing the pistol, the gun community was quick to tell them to stop. While at the 1994 SHOT Show, Olympic Arms unveiled the pistol. Olympic Arms was quick to claim the company was not “in the ammunition business and unaware of a problem.” Very shortly after, the ATF banned the importation of steel core 7.62x39mm ammunition.

Chalk One Up for the Good Guys! Defending the Second Amendment

We get plenty of bad news when it comes to legal battles and regulations regarding our Second Amendment rights. Fortunately, there are several organizations fighting to retain our rights and reverse the efforts of over-zealous anti-gun lawmakers. This is the first installment and recaps pro Second Amendment wins and challenges from the previous month.

In Ukraine, a Call for a ‘2nd Amendment’

The geopolitical propaganda that is spreading about Ukraine is hard for the U.S.-based observer to decipher, so we will not try to unravel the details. But by some estimates, snipers from the now-deposed Ukraine government shot between 70 and 100 protesters in the streets. And further upheaval seems guaranteed, whether as a civil war or by invasion.

NJ, VA, NY Voters Want National Gun Registry

We often run stories in The Shooter’s Log that point out what anti-gun politicians are doing in some states, and those politicians richly deserve the opprobrium Cheaper Than Dirt! commenters heap on them. But more worrisome is: What if anti-gun pols are merely doing what their constituencies want?

New York’s Gun Grabbers Lose as Remington Sends Jobs to Alabama

State lawmakers will one day learn there are consequences to their actions. Unfortunately, it is more often the people governed than the lawmakers who receive the brunt of the repercussions from poor lawmaking. Over the last month or so, New York launched a new campaign—Start Up NY—touting a business-friendly attitude by promising a 10-year tax holiday for any business that starts, relocates or expands in New York. During this same time, Mayor Bloomberg, Senator Schumer, Governor Cuomo and others have made every effort to show exactly why businesses should not trust the Excelsior state (Ever Upward). Tax free? Maybe. Needlessly over regulated? Most definitely.

Gun Control in the Third Reich

Gun Control in the Third Reich: Disarming the Jews and ‘Enemies of the State’

Dr. Stephen P. Halbrook’s new book, Gun Control in the Third Reich: Disarming the Jews and “Enemies of the State”, presents the hidden history of how the Nazi regime made use of gun control to disarm and repress its enemies and consolidate power. Countless books on the Third Reich and the Holocaust fail even to mention the laws restricting firearms ownership, which rendered political opponents and Jews defenseless. A skeptic could surmise that a better-armed populace might have made no difference, but the National Socialist regime certainly did not think so — it ruthlessly suppressed firearm ownership by disfavored groups.

Chalk one up for the Second Amendment and pass the ammo! It’s time to celebrate. Well, that may be a bit of an overstatement, but the pro Second Amendment supporters can claim another victory.

The Real Consequences of Gun Control: Persecuting a Hero

Recently it seems the floodgates have opened. A new day means a new video where civilians and law enforcement are clashing over open carry. I have mixed feelings over these encounters. I am completely in the corner of citizens exercising their Constitutional rights to the fullest. After all, that is why they are called rights and not privileges.
