New Budget Proposes Almost $1.5 Billion to Protect You from Gun Violence

President Obama wants to protect you from gun violence.

Just reading that, you know this cannot be good. In his latest budget request, Obama requested $1.1 billion for gun control and “to protect Americans from gun violence.” But the assault on our Second Amendment rights will not stop there. Adding fuel to the gun control fire, the Department of Justice (DOJ) asked for an additional 382.1 million for gun control.

Illinois Concealed Carry Law

It took until July of 2013, but my home state of Illinois became the last state in the Union to enact a concealed carry law. Illinois was last for a reason, and both sides offered plenty of rhetoric. The Antis claimed the law would paramount to the Wild West; the streets would lawless and gun fights rampant. A friendly punch to the snot locker would instead lead to murder conviction because everyone would be packing heat.

Senator Leeland Yee

Gun Running, Corruption, Murder-for-Hire… California Lawmaker?

Stop me if you have heard this one before, “A leading Democrat makes a career from crusading against guns and the Second Amendment only to be accused of moral turpitude and gun crimes.” They preach against you and me owning guns, claim they have the moral high ground to legislate and restrict our Second Amendment rights and all the while are wearing hypocrisy on their sleeves. California State Sen. Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) was recently arrested for gun running among a laundry list of other major crimes.

Chalk One Up for the Good Guys! Defending the Second Amendment

We get plenty of bad news when it comes to legal battles and regulations regarding our Second Amendment rights. Fortunately, there are several organizations fighting to retain our rights and reverse the efforts of over-zealous anti-gun lawmakers. This is the first installment and recaps pro Second Amendment wins and challenges from the previous month.

What is Your Emergency Communications Strategy?

A few months ago, I was chatting with my boss when, out of the blue, he asked if I ever had considered getting my amateur radio (ham) operator’s license. It never really had crossed my mind. My parents were into CB (Citizen’s Band radio) when I was a kid, and I certainly had spent time on radios in the Navy, but it really did not seem like a hobby I needed. The truth be told, I am busy enough without another hobby.

New York’s Gun Grabbers Lose as Remington Sends Jobs to Alabama

State lawmakers will one day learn there are consequences to their actions. Unfortunately, it is more often the people governed than the lawmakers who receive the brunt of the repercussions from poor lawmaking. Over the last month or so, New York launched a new campaign—Start Up NY—touting a business-friendly attitude by promising a 10-year tax holiday for any business that starts, relocates or expands in New York. During this same time, Mayor Bloomberg, Senator Schumer, Governor Cuomo and others have made every effort to show exactly why businesses should not trust the Excelsior state (Ever Upward). Tax free? Maybe. Needlessly over regulated? Most definitely.

Tac-Con Selector-in-3rd-Mode

SHOT 2014 —Tac-Con 3MR

One of the big takeaways from the 2014 SHOT Show was the new trigger system from Tac-Con. The Tac-Con 3MR trigger system is a drop-in trigger pack for AR-15s. Essentially, it adds a third position to the selector switch. In military speak, the third position would be the “happy” position. Civilians would more commonly refer to the third position as full auto. To be clear, the Tac-Con 3MR does not convert a semi-auto to full auto, but I am getting ahead of myself.

2014 SHOT – The Sightmark Photon 5×42 Digital Night Vision Riflescope

We have all heard it before. The promise of all the features you want in one package. Occasionally the manufacturer actually comes through with the claim, but the sticker shock is nausea inducing to say the least. When setting up a new varmint rifle, I want a decent quality optic with plenty of adjustability. I would love to have night vision and the capability to video my shot or the hunt. These features are not new, but I do not have $10K to $15K to drop on a piece of glass, regardless of the features and quality.

Desert Tech Micro Dynamic Rifle

SHOT 2014 — Will the Bullpup unseat the AR? Desert Tech’s Micro Dynamic Rifle

If the AR platform has a challenger going forward, it may not be the AK. Although not new, the bullpup design affords the versatility and shootability of an AR with the same length barrel, but an overall shorter length rifle. The bullpup seems to offer all of the advantages without any of the disadvantages. Last year, IWI saw success with its bullpup design—the Tavor. For 2014, Desert Tech is introducing its own bullpup—the Micro Dynamic Rifle (MDR).

SHOT 2014 — Make Your AR Your Own With Custom Products from Unique-AR

America has fallen in love with the AR platform in recent years. Manufacturers have responded with additional calibers and an increased selection of options such as barrel twist, length and ways to hang more furniture. I am not sure if there is another revolution in store for the AR, but the next big evolution for the AR has arrived with Unique-ARs new custom and affordable AR handguard.
